Avatar n tn Have anyone tried kava kava and how long is the reaction time for helping with sleep at night?
Avatar n tn I'm trying to come off citalapram 40mg and want to try kava kava as a replacement but can I take them together? I have the same problem with my sex drive, nearly non existent, seems to be the norm on these tablets. Any help would be appreciated.
Avatar m tn Kava Kava is absolutely safe, If its dosage should be taken in proper amount. kava has been prescribed as an effective folk remedy for anxiety, insomnia and stress because of its good results.
Avatar m tn Someone mislead you on information, Kava Kava is still sold OTC and is still widely sold in USA, Canada and Europe.
Avatar f tn Has anyone used kava-kava (Piper methysticum) as a sleep aid and/or to help qwell anxiety symptoms? Thanks in advance.
Avatar m tn Passionflower is considered a systemic anti-anxiety herb, meaning regular use over a period of time helps the nervous system calm down. Quicker and stronger natural remedies would be kava and holy basil -- the first works on GABA, probably, and the second works on cortisol production, which creates the physiological symptoms of anxiety. Herbs that balance the adrenals, such as ashwagandha, might help as well. Valerian also helps some people.
Avatar f tn If kava tea works, then your problem is very slight, because there's not much kava in it. If you want an appropriate amount of kava, Eclectic Institute, Herb Pharm, Gaia all make kava in various forms, tinctures and pills, standardized and not. Remember, if it tastes good, there's very little kava in it, it tastes horrible. As for the Canada ban, it's kind of banned in the US, too.
Avatar f tn Try to find the studies by googling them. As to kava, there were five people who suffered sever liver damage and were taking kava. One was an Australian aborigine, I think, who was drinking buckets of it every day, so we have to kind of discount that one -- no one recommends drinking buckets of it. The other four were all using standardized kava, not a regular tincture or herbal tea or the traditional drink used in Vanatu.
Avatar m tn There is no specific comment on the actual information I presented, namely that my skin reaction occurred after drinking kava, that the active compounds in kava are lipophilic, and that these likely infiltrated my sebaceous glands. My specific question was how long might it take for sebaceous glands to begin functioning normally again? I do not need to take steroids nor antihistamines as I do not have symptoms after about a day or two after drinking a kava infusion.
Avatar f tn Depends on the person. Depends on how severe the anxiety is. Kava is the closest herb probably to a benzo in effect. It comes in different forms. The traditional way to take it is a drink, which is how they use it in the islands where it's native. You can take it in a tea or alcohol tincture, but it tastes pretty awful. You can take the plain herb in a capsule. You can take the juice in a capsule.
652671 tn?1353712165 The other four were taking prescription meds, illegal drugs, and kava, and of course they only blamed the kava. But it was also standardized kava, which might work better but you can get non-standardized and no problems have been reported with the non-standardized. The traditional way of using it is drinking a drink made of the root, and there's no liver disease reported among the people on Vanatu who use it the most. I'd be cautious, but the proof is not very solid.
Avatar f tn Will both Kava and Xanax help to ease my dizziness and headache casue by anxiety and which one works better on those? Any suggestion is helpful. Thank you.
Avatar m tn One was taking enough to drown in, while the others were all taking standardized kava. I know of no one not taking standardized kave who have had liver problems with it, and the people in the islands where it's native drink it every day without any problems. Compared to many antidepressants kava is completely harmless.
404138 tn?1308941656 Thank you MrGreen and Thanks for the warning Markv! Im going to keep researching on all other natural remedies...hopefully something that will work.... I will keep you updated!!!
Avatar m tn t just target one system (valerian and kava mainly target GABA, as benzos do but with milder action and no addiction or withdrawal reported). An overall approach would combine relaxants with adrenal support with perhaps amino acids that affect serotonin. Again as to "most powerful," most would say California poppy is stronger than valerian, but makes people even drowsier, and opium, which is an herb after all, is even stronger still.
Avatar m tn im tellin' ya go to your health food store and get you some kava. kava tea. kava extract. what ever form they have. works for me.........
Avatar f tn Never take Kava Kava. They are already starting to pull it off the market. Its found to cause kidney and Liver damage. Try St. Johns Wort if you wanna do it the natural way. It works the best.
Avatar n tn I take that when I feel extremely irritable, and I make sure that it has a guaranteed percentage of isoflavones. Kava kava has always helped me with PMS and now with menopausal type symptoms. Also, 3000 mg of Primrose Oil and a Flaxseed and Fish oil per day really seem to help me. I especially notice that I have more hot flashes and irritiblity when I run out of the Primrose Oil for a while.
798555 tn?1292787551 s some new stuff, the original concern was only based on five people, one was bathing in the liquid and the other four were taking standardized kava but also a lot of medications and other drugs that also affect the liver. So it depends on how safe you want to play it and how much you're taking and whether other things you're taking or suffering from are affecting the liver.
701713 tn?1228363498 Hi there; I've had the same problem, and I've taken sleep aids for years also. Now I take Restoril one night and the next I use over the counter sleep aids. I know how miserable it is not to get enough sleep. I don't like taking the sleeping pills, but in order to function at all, I have to. I stopped fighting it and take my pills and sleep. I can take 2 Advil PM and they work better than the perscription sleep med. Tylenol PM makes me sick at my tummy so I stay away from them.
Avatar f tn Yes, there are meds that can help you sleep. Talk to your dr about them. But you might want to try natural sleep remedies first. As well as making some adjustments in your sleeping habits. For instance, the bedroom should only be used for sleeping and sex. Nothing else. And make sure your room is as dark as possible when you go to sleep. Also, don't drink any coffee, or anything with caffeine in it, after 3:00pm. And if you don't exercise, you might want to start.

1258450 tn?1269544780 Hello, I am too suffering from anxiety and depression - i have just started taking Citalopram, but have only been taking it for a week so cant comment on its effectiveness just yet. There is a programme called 'The Linden Method' - i am not sure if you have heard of it, but if you google it and see what you think - it has apparently helped lots of people - unfortunately it didnt help me, but perhaps i am not following it correctly?
Avatar m tn Ive detoxed many times and to be honest, I found it best and faster when I just bit the bullet and went cold turkey. Thats just me though. I mean...I did the Kava Kava and natural stuff but no script stuff and you cant taper off Herion. It just dont work cus you dont know whats in it and the strength. Every bag is a different strength so it dont work. Anyways, I wish you the best. Just keep in mind the discomfort you are feeling is only temporary.
Avatar m tn can we take valerian root/kava kava/st john wort/5-htp etc.
Avatar n tn just dont take as much during the day. Theanine, like in real green tea, also helps. Kava Kava helps but isnt always so easy to find these days. Benadryl in a small dose can also help. Exercise helped me the most..helps anxiety and depression. And it helped me look better too!
