Citalopram and heartburn

Common Questions and Answers about Citalopram and heartburn

Avatar f tn I have been on Citalopram for almost two years, originally 40mg and now 30mg and since December I have started to experience bad heartburn. I wondered if it could be caused by the Citalopram. I also suffer with terrible sinus problems and post nasal drip and wonder if that could also be the cause. Has anybody experienced these problems while on Citalopram?
Avatar f tn In the last month it got worse and I went to my doctor. I can't eat. I have lost twenty pounds. I force myself to eat some applesauce or a banana. Sometimes I can get down some bread. I drink gatorade. That is pretty much it. If it seems I am feeling good, I try to eat a better meal, but then get diarrhea the next day (sorry if TMI). I am nauseous each morning and dry heave. On the mornings I do vomit, it is mostly spit and what little drink I have had in the morning, not even bile.
Avatar n tn if you work your cardio more you will have a reason for your heart to be pounding fast, and you wont be scared. the less acidy foods, eat right and you will feel better more of the time, i know that this may not eliminate all but it will make a difference.
Avatar f tn I would suggest you to do some deep breathing exercises every day, be as physically active as you can and take help from a counselor or close friends and family to overcome anxiety and depression as you are still very young and capable of much more. Good luck and keep us posted.
503727 tn?1210442710 As soon as I get into a place I get so dizzy and my vision is all messed up. I get so hot and sweaty and my heart races. I want my life back. I still dont believe that its just anxiety causing all of this. I feel like I have something else wrong that the doctors cant find even though i have had bloodwork, mri, ekg, and they were all normal. I started taking .25mg of xanax once a day. still dont feel any better yet. So if anybody has any help please give it to me.
Avatar n tn This seriously *****. I notice I get really bad heartburn right around this time, too, and I'm not sure what comes first. So, I'm going to eat super small portions of clean foods (fruits, veggies, whole grains, etc.) which for the most part I do, but I ate a huge burrito with salsa yesterday, so I'm wondering if a combination of everything triggered it..? Idk, I just feel so miserable and the thought of having to deal with this monthly for the rest of my life makes me want to cry.
1323357 tn?1274826939 an increase of adrenaline and decrease of dopamine - and this feeling of depersonalistion and derealisation is a result. You are not going insane and this will rebalance itself. What makes it persist is that usually a person does not know what it is and so worries/creates more stress this creates a self-perpetuating cycle.
Avatar n tn For the past 5-6 weeks, I've been having numbness/tingling in my arms, hands and legs and feet. I've also had tingling in the face area.........mouth and tongue. My eyes sometimes feel itchy as sometimes my skin. I've had headaches and felt light-headed. Sometimes my face gets flushed and so do my arms, like I'm burning under my skin. My finger joints feel sore. I can't hold a book or magazine and turn the pages, my hands and fingers feel sore.
Avatar m tn My doctor thinks that it is all stress and anxiety related and put me on Citalopram. I have been feeling the following: heart palpitations, shortness of breath (sometimes... might be as I am overweight), loose stooles (but not diarrhea), feel light headed sometimes randomly, visual changes sometimes but not blurry. I do not have any ulcers or stuff on my tongue and in my mouth, I do not have any swollen lymph nodes.

Avatar n tn I take citalopram (2mg everyday) and I have not been able to afford my prescription this last week - and all this has started. I will get my prescription this weekend and hope that this sensation stops. It is scary and disconcerting, my heart can beat fast and loud, my eyes unfocus, I see things that aren't there, my eyes feel strange and of curse my brain. As if someone is switching me off for a second. Part of me thinks that one time it will switch off for good but I just want it to stop!
Avatar f tn Your stomach upset may be due to celexa. Abdominal pain (stomach pain), Indigestion or heartburn, and Diarrhea are possible side effects of citalopram (celexa). If you're unsure about the drug interactions, you can call your physician or pharmacist.
1534233 tn?1308025645 E last night, they did several ECGs and did blood tests and there was no indication of heart attack. Doctor blamed the citalopram causing heartburn and said to try ranatadine (Which i take anyway) I worry this was an angina attack, but could it be a hot flush? I wouldnt know as havent really suffered from any ailments until recently. What could this be. I have had more episodes today, Im not hungry and have eaten almost nothing in 2 days, no appetite and very tired.
Avatar n tn Reading everyone's concerns on this message board (along with my concerns) I thought it might be a good experiment(and a helpful reference guide for everyone) to list ALL the symptoms they have had and ALL the tests that have come back normal and ALL the specialists they have seen that have concluded that it was all anxiety. If you can put it in a LIST FORM with no back story so it is easy to reference that would be great.
Avatar f tn Hi, I've suffered with depression since having my son 17 years ago, I've been put on many different meds, prozac, sertraline, dothiepin, amitriptyline, mirtazapine, citalopram, I'm now on Viepax XL 75mg (since yesterday) and was wondering how well they work for people? as I don't want to be changeing meds every 5 mins.
Avatar n tn - The lack of bile could cause food to stay in the stomach for too long, causing heartburn and indigestion. - The heartburn, if it happens too often, can cause esophageal spasms and tightening, Now, the panic is where I start to wonder about a more global root cause, something with a link to the autonomic functions of your body.
Avatar f tn Attacks could last minutes or hours and any combination of symptoms would happen. And in between attacks, my heart would regularly do many strange things - tachy, brady, irregular rhythm, extremely forceful beats, 'flip-flopping' feelings, etc. I also sometimes experienced a sensation of the heart stopping and restarting - immediately after the restart I would feel a MASSIVE, uncomfortable surge of adrenaline and the heart would beat very fast for a little while.
Avatar n tn I have been to about 30 doctors- including ENT's allergists, neurologists, chiropracters, opthamologists. psychologists, dentists and everything else u can think of. All CT scans, MRI of brain and blood work keep coming back clean and ok. Nothing I try seems to work. There was a period of time about 3 and a half years ago that the symptoms lifted for about 4 months and then it returned full force.

Avatar m tn We can't diagnose you from here, but if it is heartburn or acid reflux. it can be scary when it goes on for a while and you feel sick. Any prolonged health issue can turn you into being depressed or anxiety ridden. Depression and anxiety feed off each other in a vicious circle building up strength, so after a while you don't know which is the initial problem that needs treating or changing.
1978102 tn?1334247367 Numbness across all the chest on both sides Neck stiffness and pain Dizziness Light headedness Chest pain with tingling down left arm Feeling of panic I have been put on Propranolol (beta blocker) and Citalopram (SSRI) daily, and this has made some of the symptoms better, however most of them listed above still occur. Mainly at night when I get random chest pain and palpitations, followed by the feeling of flutter or trapped gas which only seems to happen mainly at night when I'm laid down.
Avatar f tn My family doc only sees you for 5 mins and then gives a diagnoses so I was wondering if I should just skip her and see a Gastronintestinal dr instead? I was thinking of just asking my family doc for another round of blood work since it has been 3 months. ANY advice?
Avatar n tn I was wondering where the best place for me would be to find a complete list of medicines I should stay away from with Long QT syndrome. I have a list but it is over 5 years old, and I am in need of a new one! Thank You!

590968 tn?1226991167 I gotta call my doc in a bit anyway because I gotta see why he hasn't sent pperwork to my disability insurance yet anyway. I have really bad heartburn and a number of other things I just chalked up to getting older or something. I am curious to see how much my feelings and health changes once this demon is out of my body. Not to mention the relief of knowing I don't have to wonder if it will develop into cancer or cirrhosis.
789911 tn?1368640383 prescribed, or over the counter approved by your doc for you. A lot of poster's mention that they have certain sx and wonder what to ask their docs about. prescriptions are always going to be different for everyone depending on what medically is going on with them other than hcv treatment but some of it is the same. maybe someone who is wondering might see something they havnt tried yet and could ask their doc about it.
Avatar m tn Since I wasn't smoking (and never will) and wasn't on any medications except for maybe half of one Citalopram HBR 20MG pill for anxiety, what could have caused the blood clots? And if the blood in the photo linked above is from a blood clot/s, what could have caused me to have it? Could it really be Ativan anxiety medicine I was given in the hospital or something in my abdomen, like intestines or stomach?
Avatar n tn Don't recommend C/T beta blockers will help with the adrenaline rush - palp's, ibs, panic, agitation. After I also came off citalopram and dolsulipin. I have been off venlafluxine 3 years in Apriland dolsulipin 2 years in April by sleep is still affected. These drugs damage our bodies and we have to re-learn how to deal with life but its worth it not to be a zombie. I have nearly finished a course and I am not constantly in bed.
