1571730 tn?1314725245 I already knew I was bipolar and as did my doctor. The first medication they put me on citalopram, ended up causing really bad halluciantions and to me hearing voices, which I guess stemed from a manic episode (honestly when I go through my manic fits I'm never giddy I"m all irrate/irritable. They ended up putting me on bupropion 50mgs which did nothing for me now I'm going to I think they said 100mg twice a day or possibly 200mgs once a day.
Avatar m tn I was misdiagnosed with depression for years. I also was confused when started to educate myself about bipolar and find myself as bipolar 2. Believe me - you will get used to it. It takes some time to digest it. And it also takes some time to get help you need. My father was like you - very angry and aggressive when drunk, mood swings etc. He was never diagnosed but life with him was a hell and he destroyed all the family. Pls seek help - you CAN get better.
Avatar m tn A primary care is really not the most trained to handle this, and yes, it could easily be bipolar. You need someone very trained who can distinguish between bipolar and depression so that you don't get worse from an incorrectly prescribed med. Also, NEVER stop medication on your own. You can get horrendous side effects from many psychological drugs if you stop suddenly (things like hallucination, dry retching, pain, etc).
Avatar m tn any words of wisdom would be greatly aprpreciated oh as for medication I have been on citalopram for the last 2 months but has not had an affect at stabalising my moods, and the pshychiatrist is at the moment deciding which medication would suit me the best.
1441157 tn?1284075251 Unfortunately most of the drugs you're talking about are called different things here in New Zealand, but as to the question of the title, mood stabilisers and anti-depressants can be mixed quite effectively. I'm bipolar II, my shrink has me on 60mg Citalopram (aka Celexa) and some lithium to augment it. It's definitely doing something, although it's not doing enough, but we're still tinkering with the dose a bunch.
Avatar n tn I am a 32 year old woman with children i have been struggling with bouts of depression for about 10 years but keep shrugging it off and was (being strong) recently things have got worse my mum is bi-polor and im worried i might have the same thing. I have been on citalopram for 5 weeks and also taking buspirone 5mg tablets to calm me down.
Avatar m tn I have been on first 10 mg of Citalopram for 3 months and then 20 mg for 1 month. It was prescribed because I had a serious Cancer surgery, but they got it all. However, during my recovery, 4 family members passed away. i.e. the Rx. But now I do not want to be addicted to this pill, yet my dr. tells me to continue because of the stress I have been thru. I am more afraid of getting off them than continuing taking same.
718427 tn?1230219137 Some time ago over Christmas I asked people for help in this forum with what I thought were normal mood swings and feelings of self harm, after speaking to a doctor at length (I've had my symptoms for years but only sought help after reading similar accounts of people on here) she thinks it's highly likely to be BP, as I'm a student away from home and use the NHS the only thing she could do was place me on Citalopram and keep seeing me every week to check my moods.
Avatar f tn Seroquel is an Atypical Antipsychotic that is great for treating both the bipolar depression and the bipolar mania. It totally stabilized me, however I do get terrible weight gain with it. 2 mg of Valium is a peanut dose, so I am not surprised that it is not helping. Especially if you are in a mixed state or manic.
Avatar f tn I agree with triedeverymed, perhaps you should speak to your doc about your medication, I was originally on depakote and citalopram and found out that citalopram is not good for bp??!! Obviously I am not a doctor and it does seem to depend on who you see, they all have different ideas. I think it is quite common to miss your "highs", my pdoc just smiled knowingly when I told her I did but whatever you do don't come off your medication without medical support and advice.
Avatar f tn Hi all, I take medication for bipolar II, however this doesn't seem to help at all with my anxiety issues. My pdoc is referring me to an anxiety management group but I'm scared of going, I know that if I'm having a parituclarly bad day I won't be able to get out the door to go the meeting!
Avatar f tn I gained about 30 lbs on Citalopram. I work out and eat healthy. I just saw a new doctor and he believes the Citalopram is causing my weight gain. I have been on it for about 18 months. I am now taking half a pill of Citalopram in order to wean myself off of it. My doctor then prescribed me Bupropion HCL (take twice a day). He says that should help with weight loss. Has anyone had good experiences with Bupropion? Did you gain weight on Citalopram? Thanks!!!
653999 tn?1225016486 org/wiki/Agitated_depression But be aware that the more rational you feel the less likely it is you are in one - sanity checking yourself is a good idea anyway but if you feel multiple symptoms and you are hallucinating dont panic, simply go to the hospital - tell them you maybe bipolar and exactly how you feel and take the drugs with you - there is no shame in getting help.
997928 tn?1252444237 id like to stop prozac i dont like the way i feel on it but they said i have to have it with lamictal and celexa to balance them out i hjave bipolar, schizophrenia, manic depressive, and post traumatic stress syndrome does anyone think this is dangerous or if it will give me the downs instead of energy wise?
Avatar f tn Ok your first question seems to be is BP hereditary - the answer is well inconclusive at this point and to understand why you have to look at what Bipolar is - Traditionally there was a disease called Manic Depression which was a catch all of the 3 mood disorders - Bipolar I, Bipolar II and Cyclothymia - Some decades back the use of the term Manic Depression began to fall out of favour and the sub categories became used - this means that data was not collected in what might be the best manner
Avatar n tn I'm not familiar with zyprexa, citalopram is a common SSRI - I used it for depression and anxiety. I think the key is taking it slow.
Avatar m tn I began seeing a therapist whom I really enjoyed and through talk and 20Mg of Citalopram, my issues were resolving nicely. We also determined I had a mild case of OCD. I was also given Zolpidem to take on occassion if I felt the need. In 7/2010, I had to move back to my elderly parents to care for them, as they are both terminally ill. My Mother had stage 5-6 Alzheimer's and my Father has Pulmonary Fibrosis. I was allowed to work from home.
1190847 tn?1287363025 One of my sisters has major depressive disorder, and another has rapid cycling type II bipolar. The three of us have different fathers. So, a week before I start my period I self-mutilate, have crying fits, tics, delusions, suicidal thoughts, and paranoia. I don't hallucinate anymore and these symptoms last but three hours at most. I take 20 mg Citalopram (for panic attacks) and 150 mg Bupropion (for depression). Neither properly treats my symptoms. I feel better when I exercise, though.
Avatar n tn Find a psychiatrist specializing in bipolar disorders. Eat healthy. Journal and do everything you can to monitor your behavior and report back to your psych. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn often I go into a mania and have to discontinue them.. (the reason why I go on and off them)...so what your feeling is normal for some people like you and I .............Gnarly.................
950277 tn?1247274551 celexa generic citalopram and brand name cipram in the the eastern countries is produced by the same Danish company which produces cipralex/lexapro/escitalopram. In different forums one finds many pts using it. it's weaker than lexapro, exactly half its therapeutic dose in maximum and minimum. BP pts take wellbutrin, celexa, lexapro in the majority of the cases. A few take seroxat/paxil to go with lamictal.
309783 tn?1271958229 She tells me everything and described her anxiety and feelings of ups and downs. She thought she might be bi-polar and went to a psychiatric hospital for evaluation and advice. They did not take her onto their caseload as she did not appear to have a serious mental illness. She went back to her GP today who prescribed risperdal. I'm really worried she's been given the wrong medication. Any thoughts?
Avatar n tn Combining Alprax and Citalopram can cause central nervous system and respiratory depressant effects, especially in elderly or debilitated patients. Please discuss with your doctor for alternate medications. In the meantime, I would strongly caution you not to drive or operate heavy machinery while on these medications as you might injure yourself or others. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
