Perhaps this is not the right venue, as I'm certain I don't have an STD because there was no encounter. However, I am showing signs of urethritis. I won't get into specifics, but likely due to introducing old masturbation toys. Cipro is not recommended, I believe due to it's ineffectiveness against other STD's.
If the NGU is not from and STD, would the drug be effective?

I have had unprotected oral sex many times in the past, and had a previous episode of urethritis about a year ago. The episode was severe, but cleared up quickly following a one time oral dose of either Cipro or Azithromycin. I recently had a second episode of dysuria after unprotected oral sex. I again took Azithromycin (2 GM), and Cipro (500 mg).
It has now been 4 1/2 days and the dysuria is only slightly better.
I'm a 22 y.o F and so far in my life I have never had any real serious issues with my health, I'm a very healthy young adult. I have had a monogamous relationship with one boyfriend for nearly a decade now and he has no problems. However, at the end of April I got what I thought was a UTI and went as I normally would to see my Gynecologist for a test and antibiotics. She ruled out any reproductive infections and my urinalysis came back negative but she gave me Cipro to treat it anyway.
I have a persistent case of urethritis, which has been ongoing now for over two months. The symptoms are irritation within the tip of the penis-itching, tingling, sensitivity to touch, & occassional burning. There is no burning during urination, and no discharge of any kind, and no blisters or sores at all. I had unprotected oral sex with someone I knew was sexually active. At roughly the same time, my wife developed a discharge, which was determined by test to be gardenerella.
In that case, to my understanding the only remaining option is urethritis, and given that it is responding the cipro and therefore is probably bacterial (?) then how could the urine cultures be coming back negative....?
I must say that I am confused.
Not sure that I understand your last remark, I didn't have any exposure that I regret, and I am certainly not imagining the burning sensation and pain that I am experiencing, nor the significant improvement when I take cipro.
I went back and he the gave me 500mg of Cipro to be taken 2 times daily for a week. Painful urination persisted. Went back to the doc who then put me on Levofloxicin 500 mg/day x 4 weeks. Just to be sure it wasn't Quinolone resistant Gonorrhea, he also gave me one dose of Cefixime. I've got one week left of the Levofloxicin and things aren't any better. Never been any discharge just pain in my urethra and between my legs.
I am a male and had unprotected oral sex with another male, including kissing. A day later I had sex with my female partner. Ten days later, I had a pharyngitis and discomfort at the tip of my penis with no discharge but tingling and discomfort. In the meatal area there was a clear but not discharging secretions. I self treated with 1 gram of Cipro and 1 gram of Azithromycin, followed by 250mg per day of Azithromycin for 2 days. However, symptoms of pharyngitis & urethritis continued.
The cause is due to infection of the urethra called urethritis, for which you need to go in for the aggressive management through selection of best antibiotic like levofloxacin, ofloxacin etc for which you need to consult your urologist.
went to get chlamydia/gonorhea tested and started doxy on Monday afternoob...both came back negative so doc told me to stop and go on CIpro 500 mg 2x p/d for 2 days (stopped doxy) which i started thursday morning. Today also took a one time Zpack of 1.5.G
still really hurts to urinate...penis still looks red and feel like crap / stressed, now feel getting cold sore....shouldn't i feel better by now?

Urine, negative, culture, negative, STD's negative. Clean bill of "laboratory" health.
Gave me Cipro and said "non specific urethritis". Had an adverse (non-allergic) reaction to the Cipro, so he said "it happens" and gave me Keflex.
I looked up ureaplasma and mycoplasma as common causes of urethritis and prostatitis, but the doctor told me that cipro would have killed those bacterias, especially 34 days of cipro. I tried looking it up on the internet but I cant find anything that says cipro is used to treat ureaplasma and mycoplasma.
What else can I do? I am tired of going to all these doctors and nobody being able to tell me what i have. Is there a test that i should take?
It's been a year and a half since my exposure, which involved a insertive oral, the girl had bloody mouth. I've had dysuria, urethritis for a year and a half. Had taken levaquin, cipro, doxycycline, azythromycin, and cef. None worked. Could I have gotten genito-urinary tuberculosis, or tuberculosis urethritis from a bloody blowjob?
I have been taking 500 mg cipro twice a day assuming it was urethritis or uti. While i am a bit better i am still not 100% normal after 3 days on cipro. Do i need to look at something like gono or chlamydia? I was sure it was not an std because even my oral was protected. No discharge yet. Pls help.
Diagnosed with NGU from urethral swab (neg. for other STDs). Given 1g azithro, 1 week Cipro. Discharge clears and urethral swab is neg. 2 weeks later but still have burning in urethra so I'm given 2 weeks doxy and a shot of cetrifix. I still have burning despite neg. UA so given 2 weeks of metro. UA following this is neg. I avoid all sex with my parnter.
10/2011 - I feel guilty so I confess to my partner. She forgives me but requires we use condoms for oral/vaginal now.
I am a 27 year old female. I have been having painful urination for a few years off and on, but recently it has became unbearable. I went to a Urologist and he sent my urine off for culture and started be on Cipro. I did not have any relief and the culture did not grow anything out. He said the infection is more than likely in my urethra. He mentioned ureaplasma. I am currently taking 7 days of doxycycline 100mg twice a day. I finish tomorrow.
You should get tested for Herpes via type specific blood test and a swab the next time you have the pain. It could be a herpetic infection. That would not respond to antibiotics and may recur.
well i got all this symptoms after a sexual encounter so i believe a std gave me the urethritis and i took so many antibiotics, oflo, azythro, cipro, and my last one was doxy. all for 7days.. so im wondering if 3 weeks of doxy would make a difference? because last time i took a week of doxy, i felt better but i think it course was too short and symptoms returned. im certainly seeing improvement now and im on my 7th day.. if this fails he told me il have to take 3 months of antibiotic.
I ended up getting treated for urethritis and for two weeks I took cipro but that failed against the urethritis so I took amox clav and it worked but I passed it on to my girlfriend after he cipro didn’t work before I went on amox clav. So we both got treated with doxycycline and I just finished mine 4 days ago. We have not had sex yet and I had a rash on begin to form under my penis head and on the shaft of my penis.
the cipro was prescribed b/c i still have what feels like urethritis four months after being treated for chlamydia though the tests have come back negative... i don't think i was tested for trich, so that's why i was asking if the ciro will be effective if that indeed is what i have.
For about a month ive had a feeling of discomfort in my penis tip. Like a burning sensation but not when urinating. It comes and goes sometimes a few minutes after i finish going to the bathroom. Im a 28 yr old male and as far as sexually active yes but i always use condoms except a few weeks ago i recieved oral sex without one. I see no discharge but when i spread open my tip (meatus) if i look inside i can see a "wet" substance. Is this normal?
I have been tested twice for STI and Tested once for Herpes 1 and 2 but doctor asked me to use cotton swab by myself where sore were healing all results came negative. I can observe every day those lesion disappear and reappear again same day.
I went to other clinic and he did culture test for my urine and told me there is bacteria he prescribe me antibiotic and i felt well after consuming ciprofloxacin.
It would be the bacteria that could resist azrithromycin 1gm and doxy for 2 weeks. Because the cipro gave mild relief he put me on a 7 day course of Moxifloxacin. It seems to erradicate the stuff in most studies where doxy failed. I just started the mox today about 3 hours ago. Not sure what else could cause persistent urethritis for over a month. Any other ideas if this doesn't work?
