Common Questions and Answers about Cipralex and weight gain

ciprodex

Avatar n tn First I took Lexapro then Cymbalta and now Zoloft. My doctor keeps changing my meds because of the weight gain and every change only makes it worse. This latest change has caused me to gain about a pound a day. Since Thursday I have gained three more pounds and have been eating next to nothing. I finally convinced my doctor that I am not pigging out all day and she ha ordered a thyroid test. I'm so scared that I'm going to die from this, it's uncontrollable.
Avatar n tn I had no problems with sex drive when I was on Prozac, and Wellbutrin has no sexual side-effects or weight gain. You should speak to your doctor about the risks / benefits of stopping the cipralex. He/she may recommend adding a small dose of Wellbutrin to see if that will help with the decreased libido or try switching you to another SSRI to see if that helps.
Avatar f tn I had been on Cipralex for 2 years and never experienced any weight gain...the drug also made me sick when i stopped it and went back on it so my family doctor put me on zoloft. I hope you can find the answers your looking for! good luck!
Avatar f tn I'm a 20 year old female, who has recently been put on cipralex for panic attacks and anxiety. About a week ago I came out in a strange red rash on my chest. I have also been experiencing blurring vision and lightheadedness several times a day. Usually when I wake up in the morning I have had quite bad headaches which usually pass within an hour of being awake. I'm worrying whether this could be the medication or something else. Should I go to a doctor or is it anxiety related?
1052851 tn?1307741160 I read an article in BP Magazine about Zeldox, which had not yet been approved in Canada, but was in the US under Geldeon, and guaranteed the same results with less weight gain, so after some urging to my doctor, and her investigating it further, I started taking it, it had just been approved in Canada. I now only take 80mg of Zeldox (max. recommended) and am still taking the same amount of Cipralex.
Avatar f tn I had anxiety and I was on Cipralex 20mg & Zyprexa 5mg I was doing fine. I got a viral infection for which I used leflox 500mg antibiotic 2 times a day. The viral infection got cured but I got anxiety. My doctor has gave me a plan to temper zyprexa as it was giving me brain fog and has added wellburtin SR 150mg. I am asking him to give me some benzodiazepines he does not gives as he says that Cipralex & Wellburtin are enough. He says that give wellburtin 3 weeks to work.
Avatar f tn I have recently been prescribed Cipralex (Lexapro) and was wondering if anyone could tell me how effective this medication is in treating depression/anxiety. Have you found it helpful and has it caused side effects such as weight gain and insomnia? I've heard it's a weight neutral antidepressant but the label says weight gain is one of the most frequent side effects.
415867 tn?1323365503 Newer antidepressants don’t have the same side effect. While Paxil and Zoloft do cause some weight gain, other SSRIs, like Prozac, Celexa and Lexapro, don’t. For Paxil and Zoloft, the weight gain can add up to five to 40 pounds a year. Some people do experience weight gain with Lexapro or Celexa, but most don’t. In this case, it is not a surprise to have idiosyncratic responses, since the chemical structure of all the SSRIs is so similar.
1052851 tn?1307741160 Both Abilify and Quetiapine belong to the same class of drugs and both can cause weight gain. This means that the chance of developing unwanted side effects, such as weight gain, may increase by adding Abilify to Quetiapine. This is not to say that an additional weight gain will occur, however there is a risk. While these two drugs are both in the same class, they still are different drugs and some of the side effects do vary between them.
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm currently taking 10mg of cipralex for anxiety and panic attacks. I have been taking the cipralex for 3 months. Lately I have been experiencing head spinning before I go to sleep. When I am asleep I am woken up by dizziness when turning. Also just upon waking I seem to get these strange impulses through my body which make the dizziness really bad. The dizziness usually goes away once I am awake and walking about.
Avatar n tn If you haven't adopted a healthy lifestyle (reasonable diet and exercise plan), along with taking the bupropion, there's a good chance you could regain the weight. That's a major issue with taking medications for weight loss.
Avatar m tn Hello there, You have been on Cipralex for 2 years. You brain is now used to the serotonin reuptake inhibition and you should stop very very slowly to avoid withdrawal symptoms such as brain zaps, irritability and dizziness. The wise thing to do is to work on a withdrawal schedule with your doctor and be clear with him that you want to stop and planning a baby and that you really want to stop. He will gradually reduce you dosage then frequency.
Avatar f tn My main concern is that it seems the cipralex messed my metabolism up and I gained 40 lbs very fast, whereas before even if I was eating “bad” I only used to fluctuate 5-10 lbs my whole life. I have been off cipralex for several months and can’t lose the weight. I have had 3 urine tests in the last month with 0.3 erythrocytes (should be negative), HI Bacteria (should be negative), and the tribe culture says “3 or more organisms present” and that it is probably contamination.
4943237 tn?1428991095 Keep in mind that weight can drop quickly at the beginning of a diet and then plato for any number of reasons, at this early stage i would suggest you keep a diary of everything you consume, your daily exercise routine or activity and monitor your weight and if your weight is dropping too rapidly over a longer time frame, your doctor or dietician will possibly be able to see something in your diary entries. Cheers........
Avatar f tn I was on Cipralex for a year since losing dad and losing my job. had bad anxiety and insomnia.
Avatar n tn I take both those meds and avoid all cold medicines and over the counter medications because they can interact with the cipralex and serequel. I always call my pharmacist and ask which medications could counteract with my anti depressants.
1267205 tn?1321117128 anxiety is a common denominator for all psych disorders. it's not specific to BP alone. Taking cipralex will do you good for a while but then it will drive you manic eventually. you said cipralex, is it the only drug you take or along with other meds ? because if you take mood stabilizers along with then perhaps it's safe. but i never heard someone with BP is prescribed an antidepressant only. cipralex is rather strong it's an SSRI.
Avatar f tn However after a few weeks realized i wasnt sleeping, eating (my weight went down to 6stone and Im 5ft5) plus i was havinf bad painic attacks and realized my depression had come back. So i went to my doctor l was put on mirtazapine 30mg, theyr making me very sleepy, the 1st tablet i took i slept for 14hours and couldnt wake up and felt extremely tired for over a day. I took half my dose lastnight after being advised to and im still feeling very dizzy, sleepy and just ill.
Avatar n tn I just responded to your PM, but Paxil isn't necessarily sedating. It was for me, but it's not only very hard to quit, it tends to make you gain a lot of weight over time and it's so strong in its affinity for neurotransmitters and choline that often if you have to stop taking it other drugs don't work. But as a last resort, and all natural medicine, other meds, therapy and relaxation techniques didn't work, it can be a very effective medication.
Avatar m tn He told me to consult with the psychristic. I consulted with the psychristic. He advised me to take cipralex for one and half month. After taking the cipralex too i feels the same sympton. For that i once again consulted with the other neurophysician in bangalore. He advised me for doing the MRI Scan. The result of the MRI saying "Mild ectopia of cerebellar tonsils. The tips of the tonsil is 5mm below the formen magnum. No mass effect is seen on the Brain stem.
Avatar f tn /Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) ( Am slowly weaning from Cipralex/Escitalopram as I gained weight on it and other side effects) Am down to 5 mg of Cipralex at nite along with 50 mg SEROQUELXR for sleep (have been taking the SeroquelXR 50mg for approx. 6 months now as when I'd initially weaned from the Cipralex I was experiencing some sleeplessness etc.) For approx. 3 months now, I have had a tic occurring with my lower right eye lid; quite frequently and noticeably.
Avatar f tn My went to visit my doctor about my anxiety and sleeping issues and he has put me on Cipralex 10mg dosage a day and also prescribed me 50mg of trazodone to be taken at bedtime to help me sleep. Does anyone take these prescriptions? if so could I please get some feedback on them?
574118 tn?1305135284 So do you think panic and fear can be an extra side effect of cipralex and i should increase the above doze of xanax.
Avatar m tn I have had head aches on cipralex, and when I drink some or even more then some drinks I get almost sick with a head ache. 1) are head aches common in taking anxiety drugs, 2) any way preventing the head aches. 3) dry mouth is that common with these drugs.
574118 tn?1305135284 4 weeks ago i started to go down a bit so i took lexapro/cipralex 5mg and i became happy for 10 days then i started to be anxious and moved around so i feared of becomic manic Upon asking the pdocs whether this was ADHD (usually comorbid with BP they said no, this is a usual side effect of BP) so i cut the cipralex and got back to the above combo. It was OK . Yesterday and today I have agressive behavior with depression.
Avatar f tn t know exactly how much weight I gained, but it was enough to make me want to crawl under a rock and hide. Like most, I did nothing different with my diet or exersize regimen so I quit immediately after realizing it was the meds. How long did it take you to lose the weight?
