Common Questions and Answers about Chronic appendicitis symptoms treatment

appendicitis

Avatar m tn t have any acute episode and there is no such Chronic appendicitis. Months passed and now almost six months with symptoms on and off at right lower abdomen as described above. I can feel discomfort while wearing tight pants and belts moving legs in awkward positions etc( but not always). I went to a new Gastroenterologist who i visited for 3 times was not convinced with appendicitis. But as my symtomps continued (mildly) he advised Contrast enhanced CT which the previous gastro advised.
Avatar m tn There is no test to prove chronic appendicitis. Some of the symptoms are lower right quadrant pain, sometimes it's sharp, sometimes it dull, bloating mucus in stool, pain with or after intercourse, trapped gas or stool in the appendix area will double you over. WBC's will be somewhere from 9-11, not high enough to indicate an acute form of appendicitis but a chronic form of it.
Avatar n tn Hello! I have joined this community in the hope that someone can help me! I am a female, 25 years old and I have been suffering from abdominal pain for years. The pain is usually in the right side, mid-way between my bellybutton and my hip. At times the pain is sharp and stabbing and causes me to double over in pain - I would give it a 7 out of 10 for intensity. Other times the pain on my right side is dull and aching, and sometimes this is replaced with a burning sensation.
Avatar n tn Only other thing I can think of is something structural...Like a chronic appendicitis...It has general symptoms with the fever and nausea and pain..and then goes away without treatment...Does it get worse when she lays flat? Occur at only bedtime or at night? Any sweats with it? dizziness? Bowel movement changes? If it occurs during the day as well, it could be a food allergy with "leaky gut" syndrome...This can cause poor vitamin b absorption and lead to other problems...
Avatar m tn Does it make sense to have classic appendicitis symptoms that go completely away for a few days at a time over a 3 month course? What has prompted my question is that I had two episodes yesterday, one in the morning and a very severe bout in the evening. I keep thinking this will just go away especially when I'm pain free and I forget about it.
Avatar n tn I have recently been experiencing right side pain and mentioned it to my GP. He sent me for a CT which confirmed mild appendicitis. Don't have typical appendicitis symptoms other than pain and some nausea. My doc says to get it taken out. I went for a consult with a general surgeon and he said he isn't 100% that's my appendix since I don't have all the acute symptoms. He said there is no such thing as chronic appendicitis and my doc says "oh yes there is". UGH...
Avatar f tn See PM for lymph info. Have the done any cancer marker testing? Did they rule out chronic appendicitis?
Avatar n tn Welcome to the gastroenterology community! I think it is unlikely that you have a chronic appendicitis, but I would recommend seeking out the opinion of a gastroenterologist.
Avatar n tn The doctor I have been seeing is talking a lot about IBS, which I question since I appear to have none of the major symptoms (no cramps, no diarrhea, no constipation). What I do have are the symptoms I mentioned above, which have been worsening steadily of the course of the past few years, with periods of remission. I have also had episodes of severe pain in a U-shape below my bellybutton for several years, but never experienced the 'typical' migration of the pain to the RLQ until now.
552053 tn?1273331741 there's a possibility it could be appendix related. My ex husband had the same thing that would come and go for a couple of years and then it became a constant pain that started to intensify. He finally gave up and went to the ER and was diagnosed with appendicitis - his appendix actually ended up bursting as they were removing it.
Avatar m tn You were right in suspecting appendicitis and kidney stones. Kidney stones can persist for years and cause symptoms only when they start moving. They can move, cause pain and again remain in a position for long periods of time. Similarly chronic appendicitis too can behave this way with bouts of pain, localization of infection and inflammation and a symptom free period.
Avatar f tn The point we are making is that you are not stating your symptoms accurately. You have made an assumption as to what is causing the pain which is not possible without appropriate studies. Appendicitis isone of hundreds of things that can cause pain in the abdomen. The statement that your appendix feels like it getting bigger doesn't make sense. It is possible to have pain originating from the appendix without true appendicitis.
Avatar n tn He took pictures and told me to take it to all the doctors I had gone to and show them.
Avatar m tn Persisting E coli infection can also cause colitis which can cause lower right abdominal pain. It can even be chronic appendicitis caused by past E coli infection or due to impacted food or any other infection. The other possibility is ulcerative colitis. Hence, a CT of abdomen may help diagnose or rule out all three causes. Parasitic gut infections like amoebiasis, E coli infection, round worm, giardiasis can also cause similar symptoms. Hence, you must get a stool test.
Avatar n tn chronic involvement of appendix (many a times ultrasound misses this as the appendix in such cases is hidden behind loops of intestine and typical symptoms of appendicitis are absent), involvement of kidney and inflammation of your intestine. Lower right abdomen pain is commonly due to appendicitis. The pain, can at times come and go and not give the classic picture.
Avatar n tn You are correct that this is not an acute appendicitis, but there is a possibility that this is a chronic appendicitis. This is almost surely not an ulcer of the rectum as you don't have any of the same symptoms.
Avatar f tn Cramps change in nature from time to time. The other possibility is your appendix. Google appendicitis symptoms (chronic and not acute) and see if that sounds familiar. If you think it's your appendix, of course it's time to see the doc.
Avatar f tn I am desperately seeking help for my symptoms. I have been out of work for over a month and don't seem to be any better. I had my appendix removed and developed a bad infection. I am being treated for the infection. At the same time as the appendicitis I went to the emergency room for kidney stones. I had lithotripsy done for that 1 week ago to remove the stone. Over the past year I have experienced the following symptoms...
Avatar f tn I'm concerned about what's going on in my body right now. For the past couple of months I've been experiencing abdominal bloating every so often - which in my case isn't all that unusual, as I've had chronic constipation for most of my life. However, it did flare up pretty bad a few weeks ago, and I began to have an 'ache' on my right side, very vague, almost unnoticeable, around the area of the ovary...or sometimes further up.
Avatar m tn I had the same problem, you need to get your appendix taken out. Chronic appendicitis has weird symptoms and a doctor will not help you. I suffered for a year and a half getting all those exact test done and came back with nothing. You need to contact a SURGEON soon.
Avatar m tn They can move, cause pain and again remain in a position for long periods of time. Similarly chronic appendicitis too can behave this way with bouts of pain, localization of infection and inflammation and a symptom free period. Crohn’s disease, diverticulitis, infection in kidney, constipation, and an abscess in rectus abdominis muscle or psoas muscle can all cause lower right abdomen pain. An ultrasound or CT scan of abdomen is definitely required. Hope this helps.
