Avatar m tn about 2 weeks ago I got a cold and it came with a tightness in the chest and a shortness of breath bad enough to keep me up at night. now the cold is gone and I'm left with this feeling that I cannot catch my breath. my doctor gave me some antibiotics and albuterol. I should add I am a smoker (havent smoked in 4 days tho), had asthma a decade ago, just got a cat in my house for 2 months and I'm allergic to cats... but then why would it start now when I've had him for 2 months.
Avatar f tn It just seems laying down at night makes it worse. Have you gotten a cold since this started? Colds also make asthma worse, when my son has a cold we have to do breathing treatments every 4 hours. Both my kids have asthma they are 7 and 11 years old. My husband also has it. Go talk to your dr and she what he/she says that way you can get whatever it is treated and get on with your life and not have to worry about it.
1953268 tn?1454815040 ve described here, and insist on having a chest exam. Green mucus can be a sign of infection. Chest pain should never be ignored, and should definitely be looked at by a physician in order to rule out any thing serious. Years ago, I had symptoms much like yours, but I chose to skip the doctors visit and stay home. It turned out that I had bronchitis, then developed pneumonia.
Avatar n tn I am a 29 year old who has been having chest tightness for about 3 days with a headache that comes and goes. I went to an urgent care for them to tell me nothing except that my vital signs are healthy, take no xrays, take no blood, etc. They prescribed me an inhaler thinking that it was an allegarine asthma. IT hasn't helped so far. When I work out, it doesn't bother me anymore. I am not short of breath; however, to take a deep breath takes a little more effort.
Avatar f tn I never use it more than once or twice a week, and never on a regular basis. I think it works in the cold because it relaxes your chest.
Avatar f tn I have this tightness in my chest i kno its mucus but i dont have a cough or cold it hurts when i try to take a deep breath ive never had chest congestion before im not coughing up blood or anything like that. ive been using my asthma pump because when i was younger i had trouble with asthma it helps clearing my airways so i can breath easier but it comes back after awhile. Help?
1363339 tn?1338771053 Is it after every asthma attack? Or mainly after the ones that come with colds and flus? If the rib pain is after cold/flu attack then it is possible you are getting infections that are travelling to the pluerisy (might be spelt wrong) which is causing the pain. I get pain that seems to wrap around my chest and feels like someone is squeezing me - however I don't have true asthma just very similar symptoms from acid reflux.
Avatar f tn My girls had this chest cold type thing. Theirs only lasted two days, well I caught it. And I've now had it for 6 days.. bcuz I have asthma, wheezing horribly, short of breath, coughing, I called my baby doc and asked him what I could take.. he said just tylenol and he called me in an antibiotic! Not sure if its gonna work or not I have to call him Monday and let him know.
1089149 tn?1256735542 what is the cure for asthama on dust allergy and what could be done for asthama, coming from cold-flu-cough. i get breathing problems while i encounter severe cold-flu-cough. i get cold first then get sore throat, then my chest burns and cough starts off. this leads to breathing problems and any work done is related to breathing excessively.
Avatar f tn My 2 yr old has always had a bad chest with chest infections etc but since middle of december he has been coughing when he walks or runs or when he is in bed. But only then, he is fine in himself and can go all day without coughing until he gets into bed and then he starts. When he is coughing he is so bad he actually makes himself physically sick. He is as bright as any 2 yr old and his breathing is absolutely fine when he is coughing or running around, it is just the coughing.
Avatar f tn Some people will have heat or cold air induced asthma, some people can have asthma after being in a home with pet dander or new carpet or new wood florring, the chemicals in these products can cause asthma to start flaring up. Some people have exercise induced asthma also. Asthma is the restriction of your airway, and that is why you hear a wheeze, it is like air whistling thru a closed window. Your inhaler should help relieve this.
Avatar n tn with chest infections the coughing gets worse when you lay down, go in and out of the cold, is wheesy, sometimes with mucus, and it is quite a bad chest infection when is starts getting crackly. also coughing can be so frequent, hard or violent it can cause bad headaches. you really need to see a doctor. the longer you leave it the worse it will get. if you leave it too long you will struggle to breath. especially with asthma, chest infections when left can be dangerous.
Avatar m tn Cold is not usually associated with all you listed out. Though it comes with cold or winter season often or with somebody that responds to change of temperature readily. All the things you said shows more of allergy, it now depends on if you have a family history of such or is just occuring to you.

Avatar m tn I am 22 and was 19 when I was diagnosed with asthma. I had all of these symptoms, except for the cold feeling in my throat. I went to the ER and my oxygen saturation was also within the normal range. The ER doctor put me on a nebulizer and I felt better afterwards. She also suggested that I may have atypical asthma, meaning that I don't present with the normal symptoms. She referred me to a pulmonologist and lo and behold, I have moderate asthma!
Avatar n tn I'm suffering from the same experience, except I do have allergic asthma. I caught a cold which developed into bronchitis in November and the coughing didn't stop for three months. I think I've had bronchitis maybe once before in my life. After four courses of antibiotics, the sinus inflammation still hasn't subsided. Almost everyone I know this year has caught a cold with cough that lasted a month.
Avatar f tn I'm a 22 year old female with asthma, I’ve had it since i was 2 years of age. Recently I’ve been getting pain in my chest, it's not like the normal asthma pains and it's been worrying me for a little wile. The pain is like a sharp stab in the middle or sometimes to the left of my chest but it's constantly there, it has affected my back when my shoulder blades are too, on other occasions it dose restrict my breathing a little but not enough to call it an emergency.
Avatar m tn I'm 19 and i run a lot (5+ times a week). I have been diagnosed with arrhythmia and i also have a third heart sound. I'm asthmatic and i get a lot of pain in my chest when i run in the cold no matter how much asthma medication i take before hand or what preventatives i'm on. Are these symptoms related at all and are they concerning? Is there anything i can do for the pain? also my average heart rate when i run is between 180-195bpm and this is how its always been.
942934 tn?1268108382 Recently I had another exacerbation and it started with waking up one morning with mucous rattling around in my chest. Then after 3 days it turned into infection with fever. I got antibiotics and ended up for 5 weeks on prednisone. I've also been on prednisone in the past for 6 weeks, but not related to infection. Just a chest full of mucous. I still cough up mucous from my airways, but at least I don't feel it rattling around anymore.

Avatar f tn hello.my sister reported almost the exact same thing like what you said. She's wondering why her heart is beating so fast when she was actually doing nothing. It has been going on for two weeks now. Her friends said she might be anxious or excited over something but she's not. Her BP was normal. and once she had a headache with the palpitations. She's on a new medication for asthma. Are you on any medication besides the anxiety meds?
Avatar f tn Hi all, I'm 19 and I was diagnosed with asthma when I was 2, just in the last few years my asthma symptoms improve during the warmer months, its like I don't even have asthma! No wheezing, no tight chest, no shortness of breath etc its brilliant! But once the cold winter months set in, I find it hard to accomplish the simplest of tasks without having to take my reliever (blue inhaler)!
Avatar n tn It may not be true asthma but an asthma brought on by being ill with a viral/bacterial infection. Like a reactive asthma caused by the illness, yet I'm not a doctor, just a mom with two asthmatics who used to get very severe asthma with every illness. One is mild asthmatic the other is moderate and both are chronic but well maintained at this point in their lives as teens now.
170935 tn?1225371076 Hi there. How you feeling now? Wnated to ask you if you were asthmatic? I don't know if it has anything to do with asthma but i have asthma too.
Avatar n tn Hello, I have a soon to be 4 year son whom is currently being treated for asthma. He started to become chronically sick when he was 1 and 1/2 years old. He was 1 month pre-mautre, had RSV at 6 months, and constant ear infections with 2 bouts of right lung pneumonia. I know it sounds like a lot, but otherwise he is a happy, normal little boy. My concern is, he has a constant, chronic, seemingly productive cough.
Avatar f tn I do have a food allergy to Brazil nuts but, I usually just get swellings in my mouth and throat with them. I did get any mouth or throat swellings. Just the asthma!! Has anybody had similar experiences or any advice?
Avatar n tn Asthma is a chronic, usually episodic disease in the majority of cases, characterized by a combination of symptoms that may include shortness of breath, mostly with wheezing, cough with or without mucus production and chest tightness. It can worsen spontaneously, with exposure to allergens or irritants, with exertion or with the inhalation of cold air.
