I hear chantix is a miracle drug for those who want to quit smoking. I think they are the same company that makes some antidepressants.
However, I also read that people became suicidal on it and heard that people actually commited suicide.
I have severe anxiety and other related mental problems and am so scared to take that drug but I need to quit smoking.
Anyone who is on antidepressants took chantix?
Quite a few of my smoking friends have also quit using it and none seem to be bothered with any side effects. You may get lucky : )
You mentioned that you were on effexor.......have you considered welbutrin? Welbutrin was used pre chantix with great results. I am not a doctor so you would have to discuss it with your physician but it might be solution.

my best friend quit smoking but first tried chantix an had some really bad side effects felt strange awful nightmares an had seazure from chantix doc took her off asap. Also seen on tv a lawyer saying if you had bad side effects from taking chantix or even death pls call today we have law suit in effect.
Just go for it and good luck today you can do it. I am on Chantix too and played games with it the first few months like you are smoking here and there. Now I am on Day 16 smoke free and it's a great feeling!! This is the longest I have gone since I started smoking 21 years ago at age 15. Good luck you can do it!!!
Yes someone I know who used Chantix for smoking cessation got side effects from it that took a long time to go away. If you are having further concerns speak to a doctor about it and as with any medication for information on side effects both short and long term look up the medication website because they all must be listed by FDA law.
I too quit with Chantix and my side effects were minimal......bad dreams and a little stomach upset, but it was a small price to pay for getting back my life, which, after smoking for 40 years I never thought would or could happen : )
In addition to Chantix, I also found whyquit.com, which supports a "cold turkey" quit....everyone has access to the articles regardless of the method you choose to aid in your quit.
I quit smoking using Chantix as well. I am only 1 month non-smoking. I only took Chantix for 9 days as on the 9th day I found out i was pregnant. So I was non smoking and pregnant, to only two weeks later miscarry. I am not too sure if its from the hormones, or from the symptoms of not smoking, but i was extremely irritable, it was almost to the point that everything i that came out of my mouth was snappy. I developed insomnia right from the get go from Chantix.
No motivation, sleeping 16-18 hours etc. This was a new Doctor for me. Family practice. I also quit smoking and was on Chantix at the same time. I thought the terrible side effects were Chantix. But I still am in trouble after stopping Chantix 7 weeks ago. Pretty nuts, a change from smoking 40 years, Effexor, Chantix, and Prozac. Should I quit every drug and start over?
When you say "the pill" to quit smoking, do you mean Chantix? I used it to quit 5 yrs ago and had no trouble with it, at all; however, my husband started on it, then read the possible side effects, got scared and quit taking it. I have not had a cigarette for 5 yrs, he still smokes. Keep in mind the side effects are not inevitable; some people get them, some don't.
The drawback to Chantix is that it's expensive and is not covered by insurance......
Early pregnancy and can't quit smoking entirely-yes I know it's AWFUL and am mad at myself and feel terribly guilty but I can't seem to give it up completely. Anyone know if chantix or the patch is better or worse than actually smoking & pg? Ideally I'd be able to quit but can't so far.
I am also experiencing sore breasts while on Chantix. This is actually the 3rd time I have quit smoking with this drug. I did not experience this the last 2 times. I have now discontinued taking the medication after having quit smoking for 8 days. I know that the recommended dosing is for a whole month to three months. I have found that taking it until the general nicotine withdrawl symptoms have gone works for me.
Despite what people say about the side effects, everyone I know that has used it has successfully quit smoking, but I'm nervous about about what they say it does. I have had several people tell me that they have horrible nightmares, have SUICIDAL THOUGHTS, and feel like they are just down right going crazy???
My son took it for 3 months and although he did quit smoking, the side effects have nearly put us over the emotional edge. He had mild side effects while on it, the dreams, slight stomach ache, manageable headaches, but... when he went off it, the whirl wind began. He began with terrible hives, then numbness, dizzy, foggy, moody and the latest is he has been diagnosed with panic and anxiety.
