Chantix and chewing tobacco

Common Questions and Answers about Chantix and chewing tobacco

chantix

Avatar m tn You could consider using over the counter aids like nicorette chewing gum or you could get a prescription for Chantix. I'm not as familiar with it with chewing tobacco but my assumption is that it works the same since it address the nicotine addiction. You could always have a discussion with your dentist or primary care physician.
Avatar m tn Ok so I have a chronic problem of chewing tobacco. I chew a pack of tobacco every 15 to 30 mins. If I dont for even an hour, I start experiencing withdrawals. I have on my own tried stopping this really bad habit but all attempts have gone in vain. I have been chewing tobacco from the past 5 years. I also had a drug abuse problem and I was very successful at stopping that. Tobacco should be easier but for some reason, it seems more difficult! Any advice I can get here?
Avatar n tn He has been on Nicorette 2 mg gum for 20 years after chewing tobacco for 15 years or so. He has never tapered off--fortunately, not gone to 4 mg either. The easiest way to tell you how much he chews is that in a week, he goes through 1 1/2 to 2 boxes. Each box contains 110 pcs. He can't understand why I get so pissed off about the amount of money or doesn't want to. He has managed to stop drinking (thankfully!!) for 7 months now and says that I shouldn't bug him about this.
19880027 tn?1485894768 For the about 15 years I've been chewing tobacco and smoking it for almost 26 years. I'm 35 and it's been a very long run that I thoroughly enjoyed. Now when it's time to hang it up there's no support for those of us that chew tobacco. There's stop smoking just about everywhere you look and I gave up smoking November of 2016. Today is day 8 tobacco free and all I can think about is eating but I'm on a monitored diet.
Avatar m tn I have been using snuff/chewing tobacco for about 25 years. Within this time period I was able to quit for about 3 years. It took all I had...literally. It was the hardest thing I have ever done. One bad night at work and I relapse. I am currently going through a lot of stress but I know that I need to quit again. I am very reluctant about using any pharmaceuticals...... does anyone have any suggestions?
Avatar n tn My experience with Chantix was pretty good but I stopped taking Chantix after my third quit day. All total, a month and a half, and I didn't look back. It is 4 months today and I had some severe reactions to my quit....2 sinus infections, pneumonia & pleurisy. I have never been sick like that but I am told that it is coincidental and has nothing to do with my quit.....hmm.......
Avatar n tn Hi, I am 36 year old. I have been occassional smoker since long (average of 1 cigeratte per day). Since last three months I have been occassionally eating "gutkha". Gutkha is similar to chewing Tobacco. During my previous dentist visit the dentist observed white color tissue on certain parts of marginal gingiva at the right and left side of my mouth. Dentist enquired about my habits and I lied that I don't have any habits.
Avatar f tn Actually here in india, we have chewing tobacco which we spit after chewing it. Though some doctor advised that tobacco had nothing to do with pancreatitics...however some days that it can lead to pancreatic cancer. I understand that intake of chewing tobacco is unsafe but i am unable to quit it. I have tried lots of time but to no avail. Can chewing tobacco really aggravate my pancreas problem..at the moment i do see any symptoms but fears worse looking at some doctors comments....

Avatar f tn I used all the stuff to quit including zyban, patches, chantix and nicotine gum, in that order. I’m chewing 3-6 pieces of 4 mg nicotine gum per day. I told myself that after 1 year of being smoke free, I would deal with my gum addiction. The plan of course is to wean myself off of the gum. I thought I would start by cutting the 4 mg in half and see if that works, the problem is I love the gum…. Does anyone here have any good ideas for getting off the darn gum now?
Avatar m tn Hi I stopped chewing tobacco 4 days ago. I started chewing in November and chewed about 3-4 times a day up until 4 days ago when I quit. I have read that the physical withdrawal symptoms peak on day three. Does anyone know what the common withdrawal symptoms are? I am constipated, get headaches, feel dizzy off and on throughout the day, and the weirdest one is my nose is congested and clariton d barely clears it up. Is it normal to have withdrawal effects that include nasal congestion?
Avatar f tn I want to quit chewing tobacco and want to use the gum or lozenges or patch to help me. But I don't know how much to take or if these methods are safe/effective. Anyone know? All of the instructions refer to cigarette smokers, not chewers like me.
Avatar m tn O.K. why are there not any "stop dipping or chewing classes"? Or are there any?
Avatar f tn Naltrexone blocks opiate receptors, and it is thought that alcohol causes release of endorphins and that is one reason for the addictive nature of alcohol. Curiously, naltrexone reduces cravings for alcohol, but does NOT reduce cravings for opiates! Chantix causes dopamine release in the brain; the main problem with the medication is that it can cause depression and even psychosis-- all temporarily, until the med is stopped.
1718855 tn?1401756839 my problem with quitting is i feel super tired like im quittin opiates all over again i get 2 days out tops and i cave and i thought i was tougher that this imma keep at it i once quit with chantix that stuff worked great and the vivid dreams i had to go with it were amazing considering i dont remember my dreams that much but it only took 2 months after takin the chantix for 3 months so 5 months total b4 i was back smoking started when i was 14 and imma b 31 tommorrow so over half my life ho
Avatar m tn First off call your doctor. Chewing tobacco is just as bad as smoking, if not worse. It could be your lungs clearing out, but it could be the juice from the chew getting into your lungs. So call your doctor just to be safe.
Avatar m tn [11] The amount of nicotine absorbed by the body from smoking depends on many factors, including the type of tobacco, whether the smoke is inhaled, and whether a filter is used. For chewing tobacco, dipping tobacco, snus and snuff, which are held in the mouth between the lip and gum, or taken in the nose, the amount released into the body tends to be much greater than smoked tobacco. Nicotine is metabolized in the liver by cytochrome P450 enzymes (mostly CYP2A6, and also by CYP2B6).
Avatar f tn In leucoplakia there is excessive growth of cells in the mouth with white patches. Smoking and tobacco chewing increase risk of developing leucoplakia.Fungal infections like candidiasis, syphilis can lead to white patches in the mouth. Stay away from alcohol. Get it seen by a doctor. I hope it helps. Best luck and regards!
Avatar f tn Most likely it is a case of Leukoplakia, where chewing tobacco is usually the cause. And if it is Leukoplakia indeed, then there's up to 20% risk of turning cancerous over time. It is highly recommended to abstain from tobacco use and alcohol consumption. There's also the possibilty of oral thrush, however, my money is on the former suspicion.
Avatar m tn actually physical nicotine cravings occur 6 - 8 times a day and they last 3 minutes however, we let our minds trick us into thinking other wise, and so we sit there and dwell on dip and just think about it all day and time goes by slow as **** keep tellin urself this and get yourself to believe it, so when a craving comes you can fight through it...
Avatar n tn There are thousands of harmful chemicals added to already problematic tobacco, and cancer is not pretty. Your cells are also being robbed of life-giving oxygen, so your youthful appearance is also going up in smoke! Your teeth and gums are at high risk. You don't look or smell healthy. Your spending money is going to tobacco companies instead of healthy pasttimes. Take up the nicotine gum or try Chantix or do whatever it takes to quit this horrible product.
Avatar m tn I am 28 and have used chewing tobacco for probably 5 years. Last night, I noticed this bump on my inner lip. I'm not going to be able to see a doctor until next week. Obviously, I'm concerned about the obvious, cancer. Can anyone give their thoughts as to whether my concerns are valid? P.S. I tossed out my tin. I'm done with this stuff whether this bump is serious or not.
1671473 tn?1450592437 I'm a morning smoke and coffee guy.. half pack and 10 cups in a.m. while i read and watch news... I want to quit.. I'm thinking Chantix from Dr. or the Gum.. I did it before.. a few times.. short times but I did it..
Avatar f tn I can feel them when I run my tongue or fingers over them. What are these? Should I be worried. I have used chewing tobacco for only about the past six months.
