Celexa side effects with alcohol

Common Questions and Answers about Celexa side effects with alcohol

celexa

Avatar n tn I too am on 175 - 200mg of Zoloft and I admit when first starting the medication I was feeling quite dizzy and nauseated. Dosage started at 50mg, then after a week increased, and every week increased until I reached 175mg. In the past my doctor has had me on Celexa and Effexor but Zoloft seems to work the best, for me that is. Everyone is different. I waver between 175 - 200mg depending on the kind of day I'm having.
Avatar m tn I will do that it seems the higher dose has created this and I'm not on anything else.
Avatar m tn I have been in NSR since July with only a couple of short episodes, most recently in early September. Last month, I reduced my dosage from 40mg BID to 20mg BID because of severe side effects. At the lower dosage, the side effects are MUCH reduced and my heart is still stable so this is good. I stopped drinking any alcohol back in the summer but last night I had a beer before dinner at about 6pm.
Avatar f tn Has anybody gotten a stuffy head and "funny feeling" eyes as a side effect from SSRI's. I have had these side effects before but they went away after a month or so. I'm on Celexa and this stuffy feeling(like you are coming down with a cold) seems to be sticking with me. The med is working well except for this uncomfortable feeling in and around my eyes.
Avatar f tn So today my Celexa dose was upped from half a pill to 1 whole pill and the side effects are coming back like when I first started... Sweaty, can't sleep, headache, stiff neck, clenching teeth... Etc. I don't know what to do. I tried taking stuff for it, including an Oxy but still no change. What can I take to make these side effects not so bad? I don't see the dr till Thursday, so I can't ask her... If anyone has any suggestions?
Avatar f tn Did you taper off the vibryd or quit abruptly? You can't just switch from one medication to another even in the same class and avoid withdrawal -- these meds are not easy to stop taking and it must be done carefully. Unless you completely stop taking a medication before starting another it's impossible to tell if your symptoms are a sign you're suffering withdrawal and quit too quickly or are side effects of the new medication.
Avatar n tn Not a good idea at all with all of those medications almost anything could happen, including blackouts, fainting, etc.
Avatar f tn Hi. Two days ago I started on 10 mgs of Celexa and wonder if it's ok to have alcohol with it. I have read the warnings, the stories, the advice for others on higher dosages. I am on a low dose and I have just started taking it.
Avatar f tn m angry that he has put me on atenolol to counteract the side effects of bupropion. What is going to fight the side effects of the atenolol? I do not want to be a walking pharmacy.
Avatar n tn When I was on Zoloft, my sex drive definitely went down, however, this is not the case with everyone. Just because you experienced side effects with Prozac does not mean they will be the same with Celexa. Just remember, that there is typically an 'adjustment period' whenever you start, stop, or adjust dosages with these medications, so being patient is someitmes warranted in my opinion....although that is much easier said than done...keep us posted!
Avatar f tn I read the side effects and now I am scared to take it. Can anyone who has taken Celexa tell me their experience with the drug? Thanks!!!
Avatar n tn You definitely should not be drinking alcohol with this combination of drugs. You're taking a high dose of xanax - that alone with alcohol would cause the effects of the alcohol to be exacerated. Mixing the two could also be fatal. Both are central nervous system depressants. Drinking alcohol may also increase your risk of certain Abilify side effects, such as drowsiness or low blood pressure (when sitting or standing up). You may also be more sensitive to the effects of alcohol.
Avatar m tn My last Celexa dose was last Wednesday and this is Wednesday, a week later. The side effects of the drug continue as before. I am not having the electric zaps which are apparently a withdrawal symptom. Instead, I have just continued to feel the same side effects as when I was taking the drug. Not as bad but still pretty uncomfortable. Ironically, my insomnia is gone and I'm am sleeping well now. Has anyone out there experienced this with such a short course of Celexa (Citalapram)?
Avatar f tn No, no, no, antidepressants don't work that way. Just as it took you some time for the celexa to start working, so would a higher dose. Also know that serotonin levels are not the problem with mental illness and aren't what celexa is really doing -- it's not making any more serotonin than your body makes naturally, what it is doing is altering the natural way your body uses it.
Avatar m tn re suffering withdrawal from the wellbutrin, or side effects from Celexa. Quitting an antidepressant abruptly is not advised -- although wellbutrin isn't one of the worst for withdrawal, they can all be difficult to stop taking and usually are tapered off. This is especially true when switching to a med in a completely class.
Avatar f tn s true there are other medications out there that might have fewer side effects than Celexa. From my personal experience, SSRIs have fewer side effects for me than anti-psychotic and anti-seizure medications prescribed for depression do. But that's just me - like I said, you'll have to make that determination for yourself: are the side effects worth the benefits of feeling better otherwise?
Avatar f tn As you said, I am fortunate not to have any side effects so far. I actually quit alcohol cold turkey 4 months ago (after drinking nearly every day for years), so I might be able to do the same with my antidepressant! Time will tell... Good luck to you.
Avatar m tn I would have to agree that you should not mix alcohol with SSRI's like Celexa. I believe having a drink or two will not really hurt you, but that is a conversation to have with your prescribing doctor and what other types of medications you might be on. It sounds like you are drinking alot though and regardless that can be a very hard obstacle to get through when dealing with anxiety. In my experience, drinking a lot can worsen my anxiety in both the short and long term.
Avatar n tn t tolerate any alcohol with metroidazole, others tolerate a little. If you have a normally sensitive stomach, you should use regular toothpaste for the time being.
Avatar f tn Hi, celexa works differently with everyone. It makes me sleepy.
Avatar m tn Do these side effects sound normal? The tremors didn't start till taking celexa but I keep having those thoughts that it could be some serious disease and its really freaking me out. I've never felt tremors before and I truly feel scared. I have a tendency of obsessing over these thoughts which only makes matters worse.
Avatar m tn has told me to reduce it to 20 mg. I was wondering if there would be any side effects that I should know about while adjusting to the smaller dose?
671285 tn?1292660161 Many of the symptoms you experienced are potential side effects of Celexa (aka Citalopram), namely agitation, anxiety, fatigue, drowsiness, sweating, and panic. There is no question that you did the right thing in immediately notifying your doctor of these side effects and I'm glad you did. While it is unfortunate that your experience with Celexa was a negative one, it is important not to generalize your experience to all antidepressants.
