Celexa withdrawal side effects how long

Common Questions and Answers about Celexa withdrawal side effects how long

celexa

Avatar f tn Did you taper off the vibryd or quit abruptly? You can't just switch from one medication to another even in the same class and avoid withdrawal -- these meds are not easy to stop taking and it must be done carefully. Unless you completely stop taking a medication before starting another it's impossible to tell if your symptoms are a sign you're suffering withdrawal and quit too quickly or are side effects of the new medication.
Avatar m tn has told me to reduce it to 20 mg. I was wondering if there would be any side effects that I should know about while adjusting to the smaller dose?
Avatar f tn s for 5+ years for OCD and she has always had troublesome side effects. She is now on Celexa, the side effects seemed to be better in the beginning, but not anymore. She experiences terrible thoughts and twitching feelings in her legs and arms. We are wanting to take her off SSRI's completely, but we are worried about the withdrawl symptoms. Can anyone tell us what to expect and just how you were able to stop an anti-depressant? P.S.
Avatar m tn re suffering withdrawal from the wellbutrin, or side effects from Celexa. Quitting an antidepressant abruptly is not advised -- although wellbutrin isn't one of the worst for withdrawal, they can all be difficult to stop taking and usually are tapered off. This is especially true when switching to a med in a completely class.
Avatar n tn s no one way, but my own research shows that the safest way to do this is to complete your withdrawal off of a drug before starting another so you know which effects are withdrawal and which are start-up side effects of the new drug. Every individual reacts differently to stopping these meds -- for some it's very easy and for others it's nearly impossible, so the safest way is a pace that suits only you, not a generalized one the doc uses for everyone. You aren't everyone.
Avatar n tn Instead of giving me beta blocker to take before performances, which is what I expected (and should have gotten), she diagnosed me as having generalized anxiety disorder and put me on low-dose Celexa (10 mg/day). I had horrible side effects (mostly gastrointestinal and sleep disturbances) but I kept with it as she indicated, for 6 months.
1154945 tn?1262238945 Everyone responds differently to medications. If you had bad side effects from the Celexa then tell your doctor this, as you have many other choices. I have taken Celexa with excellent results, but it may not be the right one for you. Sometimes it's trial and error as to what will work best for you. Your stomach burning may indicate an ulcer, you need to get that checked out. Stay away from "herbals" they're not well regulated.
Avatar n tn My own advice would be to wean off Paxil before trying another antidepressant so you can tell which effects are withdrawal from Paxil and which are side effects of the new med. It's hard to do when you're essentially on two meds at once; even though Paxil leaves the body quickly, the brain takes a while to adapt to the cessation of these meds. But this is just my opinion.
Avatar f tn Everthing you list are side effects of Celexa. There are three pages of side effects from this medication, and it says there are more and to speak with your doctor. Don't give up, it may just not be the right medication for you, but I'd find a different doctor. I hope this wasn't your GP prescribing the medication, you always want a psychiatrist to do this as they are most knowledgeable. If your symptoms persist after you have eliminated the drug, get evaluated by your doctor.
Avatar n tn s office and tell them how i feel just so that i could find out how long it will last, but the idiot receptionist said (in response to the electro-shock symptoms) "what? i've never heard of that." and then proceeded to ask me if "i was only experiencing them while walking on carpet..?" !!!!!!! wow. i can't believe the insensitivity and inanity of that question...
Avatar n tn How long does Risperidone withdrawal period last.I had to discontinue it at 1.
Avatar f tn That is a very interesting story, going cold turkey on Celexa and not having withdrawal side effects. For anyone reading, do not do this because the withdrawal mental effects can be unnecessarily agonizing and pointless. In your case, you had no choice the way you describe it, so I am not passing judgement. What was your dose? You should talk to a pharmacist immediately though for information.
Avatar m tn I will do that it seems the higher dose has created this and I'm not on anything else.
19894882 tn?1486150524 Is there anyone else out there with a similar story? How long did it take you for the withdrawal symptoms to go away?
Avatar f tn After 1 month of using the drug the serotonin reuptake inhibition as just started taking effect so I would expect terrible withdrawal symptoms if any at all. The side effects he his getting right now could be far worst than the withdrawal symptoms and therefore this is why the doctor suggested quitting cold turkey.
497348 tn?1283436066 Some patients may experience withdrawal reactions upon stopping citalopram.
Avatar n tn Since then I have had SEVERE and uncommon withdrawal side effects, Migraine, Severe Myalgia, Panic Attacks(which I never had for over 15 yrs.), severe depression, hypertension, Etc. I have now been completely off the medication for about 5 weeks. I am still having some severe symptoms, not always but it comes and goes, mostly it is there to some degree though. My question is, what is the longest these symptoms can last? I have read 7 weeks, 3 months, and everything in between.
Avatar f tn s described in the side effects) and urged me to keep giving it a try. I did, for close to four weeks. I still felt awful so then - probably foolishly - stopped taking it cold turkey. In the time since, my anxiety has spiked, particularly in the morning/during the day, I get episodes of spiking blood pressure, feel like I have heart palpitations, still have random leg twitching and arm pain, and have trouble sleeping at night because when 4am rolls around my heart starts pounding!
Avatar f tn ) Anyway, I have no side effects right now from not taking the pills for the past week, and even though I now have a new prescription I can fill, I'm thinking about not filling it. I would like to hear from others who have weaned off of Celexa, either by yourself or with the help of your doctor. Did you do it cold turkey or a little at a time?
Avatar f tn Has anybody gotten a stuffy head and "funny feeling" eyes as a side effect from SSRI's. I have had these side effects before but they went away after a month or so. I'm on Celexa and this stuffy feeling(like you are coming down with a cold) seems to be sticking with me. The med is working well except for this uncomfortable feeling in and around my eyes.
Avatar f tn So today my Celexa dose was upped from half a pill to 1 whole pill and the side effects are coming back like when I first started... Sweaty, can't sleep, headache, stiff neck, clenching teeth... Etc. I don't know what to do. I tried taking stuff for it, including an Oxy but still no change. What can I take to make these side effects not so bad? I don't see the dr till Thursday, so I can't ask her... If anyone has any suggestions?
Avatar f tn I immediately began having intolerable side effects...night sweats, insomnia, tremors, anxiety, dizziness...I was feeling worse than before I took the med! I could not tolerate the side effects any longer, so I made the decision to stop taking it. The day after my first missed dose, I felt a numbnes come over the entire left side of my body. I felt clumsy, dizzy..overall pretty miserable.
Avatar n tn Since you got the side effects, there was always the possibility that you would get withdrawal effects, especially with such a fast taper. I assume your doc thought the blood pressure issue would go away once you got used to Celexa, since you were left on it? Never self medicate, especially when you are dealing with a serious issue like blood pressure. I know someone who got the wrong prescription filled and was given a blood pressure reducing drug by accident instead of a depression drug.
