Avatar m tn Depending in the level of illumination and the angle I look to the wall, I can see a image of a small spot exactly in the center of the vision, that has the form of a bean, inside of what I can see a series of smaler spots of yelow color. I am sure I dont have macular degeneration: five days before I started to use Celebrex I have gone to a ophtalmologist to rotine examination. In that day my vision was perfect: the visual test for glasses presented no problems.
Avatar m tn I am not physically restricted - I walk 1 mile or more day and do 10 minutes of other light exercises most days. My BP runs under 120/80 most of the time. I understand carvedilol helps prevent stiffening of the heart muscle and can help restore LV function to some degree. How specially, so it do this? What is the biochemical mechanism?
Avatar f tn I am recovering from major abdominal surgery. I am taking Tramadol, which handles the pain ok. However I am having flair ups of occipital neuralgia headaches (nasty) I got when taking antidepressants. It made sense when I learned that Tramadol uses the same mechanism. Can't take nsaids because of an ulcer. Don't want Celebrex for same reason and leaky heart valves. Sigh. Is there a good alternative I could suggest. We are just talking about a couple of weeks probably.
Avatar m tn The mechanism of action of Campral® (acamprosate calcium) Delayed-Release Tablets in maintenance of alcohol abstinence is not completely understood. Originally, several neurotransmitter systems, including GABA, were investigated for a possible role in Campral's mechanism of action. However, recent evidence suggests Campral's main interaction is with the glutamate system. Chronic alcohol exposure is hypothesized to alter the normal balance between neuronal excitation and inhibition.

Avatar m tn Oyakawa I am in my 3rd year of medical school and I was wondering the mechanism of action of steroid injections in the eyelid causing cataracts. It is not an osmotic agent so why does that occur? thanks so much.
Avatar n tn Hallo, Im a 25 year old female who has been diagnosed with IC after a cystoscopy with hydrodistention which showed glomerulations and bleeding.I have a history of only one UTI six years ago and other than that nothing... Avatar f tn Plavix has a unique mechanism of action by blocking the amplification of platelet activation by released ADP, and often used with aspirin to prevent the risk of clots for the first year after DES implant. Plavix and aspirin have different mechanism of action to prevent clots. After a year, plavix is usually discontinue as the risk for clots is decreased, and aspirin is continued long term. The risk of a clot is about 3%.
Avatar n tn I took Celebrex for a year while I was on treatment this last time at the recommendation of Shands at the University of Florida. I made the decision to come off the Celebrex on my own because of all the black box warnings that came out regarding the heart while on Celebrex. I just came back from Shands on 7/21. I was up there for another evaluation after having relapsed for a second time.
Avatar f tn I have a close family memeber, (a nurse also) has taken Celebrex daily for a number of years. It is very effective for relieving her severe bi-lateral knee pain and she feels the benefits out weight the risks. She is 49. Celebrex may cause an increased risk of serious cardiovascular thrombotic events, myocardial infarction, and stroke, which can be fatal. All nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) may have a similar risk. This risk may increase with duration of use.
Avatar m tn I really do believe that the celbrex caused you to have the bowel obstructions as with me it caused me to lose the lining of my stomach and also a huge flare up of ulcerative colitis which as soon as my own doctor the visited me i was rushed in and he told me i should never even of been given them..Anyway just be careful what you take. Your new doctor was absolutely right to take you off celebrex. Maybe you could ask about etoricoxib even though you have crohns and not colitis..good luck.
548642 tn?1266179652 Since steroids are a big no no on treatment, Shands recommended that I go on Celebrex when I started this round of tx. I have Stage 3/4 liver damage. They must feel the benefits far outweigh the risks in my case.

Avatar f tn Potassium is a chemical element and it is part of the electrolyte that should be in balance with other lytes to adequately conduct an electrical impulse that originates with the sinus node in the right atrium. The mechanism of action is not completely understood, but what is when a voltage (unit of potential for conduction) and electrolyte there will conduction and passage of electrical impluses.
1962464 tn?1344606673 t seem concerned about the combination of meds that I am taking. I know some of these are also prescribed for fybromyalgia pain. If I hurt this much while taking all these medication I hate to think about how I would feel without them. Does anyone know anything about how these medications react with one another and which ones are supposed to help with fibromyalgia pain?
Avatar m tn http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/578705 Ribavirin improves early responses to peginterferon through improved interferon signaling. Gastroenterology. 2010 Jul;139 The therapeutic mechanisms of ribavirin for hepatitis C are unclear. Microarray analyses have shown that ribavirin increases induction of interferon-stimulated genes. We evaluated viral kinetics, serum cytokine expression, and viral mutagenesis during early stages of peginterferon therapy with and without ribavirin.
Avatar f tn I was actually put on Celebrex by Shands at the University of Florida when I started my second round of treatment. They did this to help keep my RA in check while I was on treatment. I was on Celebrex for 15 months (I was on treatment for 18). The problem with Celebrex is that long term use can be hard on the heart.

Avatar f tn No, it would be unheard of for Celebrex to damage your heart valve. Celebrex and similar drugs do cause high blood pressure in many individuals, though. You might have gone forever and not known about the heart valve if you had not gotten high blood pressure from the Celebrex. Follow whatever advice the cardiologist gave you, and don't worry.
Avatar n tn I never had high blood sugar but recently after a 10 day course of celebrex for an inflamed shoulder muscle my fasting blood sugar shot up to 137. I read that celebrex has this side effect. Is it reversible?
Avatar n tn Some medications are actually derived from plants. The mechanism of action and effect on the body determines the classification, therefore, laxatives can be synthetic or natural.
Avatar n tn "Mechanism of Action Oxomemazine, a phenothiazine derivative, is a sedating antihistamine" The above information is about all I could find on this drug. If it is used in the US, I have no idea what label it's under. Even if I had been able to find more information, I am not qualified to tell you to either stop or start or change any medications. You need to speak with your doctor or chemist for an answer to your question.
Avatar f tn , duloxetine) has a combination mechanism of action involving serotonin and norepinephrine making it useful in depression and also neuropathic pain. When a peripheral nerve is injured there is an increase in pain sensitive fibers leading to increase pain recognition. This causes a change in central (i.e., brain/spinal cord) recognition of pain. One major neurotransmitter involved in this is norepinephrine. Cymbalta works to modulate this change.
Avatar n tn A heart murmur is a sound heard as the blood flows through the heart and especially the blood flow through the heart valves. If there is a defect, a stethoscope hears a specific sound for different defects. â– Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. ACE inhibitors lower the system's blood pressure. The mechanism of action is to relax the blood vessels and that provides less resistance for the heart to pump against and decreases blood pressure.
