Avatar n tn Hi there. Herniated discs can cause moderate to severe pain due to nerve roots impingement by the disc matter exiting at that level. The therapeutic options for this are NSAIDs, epidural injections of steroids, physiotherapy and surgical decompression like discectomy and bone grafting. you need to consult a neurosurgeon for evaluation. You have been prescribed drugs like flexeril, muscle relaxant, gabapentin, anti convulsant used for neuropathic pain, opioids, etc.
237152 tn?1206651036 My herniated disc was at the same level as yours. I tried the epidural steroids and physical therapy for about a year and then ended up having surgery. There are many different back exercises you can do at home to help get the discs back in place. Have you tried any of these? If not I could try and find them and send them to you.
Avatar f tn I was on Mobic for a year or so and never had any issues besides stomach pain (which any NSAID's can cause) I get stomach pain with any NSAID's. Mobic wasn't really that affective for me but my insurance made me try practically every NSAID on the market before they would approve Celebrex. They denied Celebrex and even recommended a PPI (ulcer med) to take with the NSAID's because they didn't want to pay for Celebrex.
Avatar m tn Hi, There is a definite possibility of disc hernia or prolapse after accident which your doctor might have diagnosed after scan. In slipped disc or disc prolapse conditions symptoms may originate due to nerve root pressure, pressure on the spinal cord and pressure on the tail bone. Common symptoms could be pain radiating to the arms or legs, leg pain and numbness, tingling, or weakness and even paralysis of muscles.
Avatar f tn I initially took celebrex a few years ago for degenerative disc disease. I was totally clean in AA/NA and wasn't on opiates. Celebrex seemed to do me well. The only warning was "don't use NSADs if on blood thinners". So, of course I had to start up on blood thinners after a TIA. That was the end of Celebrex for me. Later my back got worse when I herniated one of the bad discs. Then I was started up on Vicodin 7.
Avatar m tn I use ibuprofen daily most of the time for a torn meniscus in my left knee that I had surgery on and I have arthritis too. I also take it for a herniated disc (L-5) and ankle pain. I have acid reflux disease and esophagus problems as well. Is it safe to take all this Ibuprofen with the stomach problems I have, or should I talk to my Dr. about possibly prescribing another medication? Would it be safer to go back to Meloxicam or try something like Celebrex? Thanks very much!
Avatar f tn I had been diagnosed with a small herniated disc in my lower back. Lumbar l-5. I have been dealing with back pain since April 2015. I've already been treated by a chiropractor for 8 weeks with no relief. I then Was referred to a pain management doctor and had a total of three epidurals and still no relief. My pain is so bad that I can't stand for more then 5 minutes at a time and have pain all around my back and pelvic area, And all the way down my legs.
Avatar n tn thanks for the answer. i been in therapy for 6 weeks now. they just found out i had c 5-6 disc herniation. i was in a rear end car accident in march. i was sent to a neurologist and he suggests pain management and neck traction.is it possiable to resume my duties at the post office. im a rural carrier there. if so what would be the restrictions if any.
Avatar m tn Herniated disc doesn’t cause swollen glands in the neck. Please consult a neurologist for the treatment of the herniated disc and examination of the swollen glands in the neck to find out the cause of swelling. Hope this helps you. Take care and regards!

Avatar f tn i have herniated disc L-4,L5 L-3 dimenssion 3 mm , I am in my second epidural shot, and I didn't see improvements, actually I feel worse, numbess.

Avatar n tn The pain is unilateral-right and most severe on the top and side of the head and at the base of the neck. Her right eye tears and right nostril runs. She has a herniated disc in her neck but the doctors have said this is unrelated. Steroids helped a while back, but now they're back again and steroids, antiseizure meds, and painkillers don't help. A couple doctors have looked at the MRIs and haven't found anything obvious.
Avatar m tn Back in October I herniated my disc in the L4-L5 region. Incredible pain like I never felt before down my right leg and hence had associated anxiety due to pain. Doctor recommended to wait 2 - 3 weeks to see if pain went away. Gave me Celebrex for pain but I'm afraid of side effects(risk of stroke, etc) so I took Ibuprophen 2 -3 times per day over this period. Finally, based on X-Rays, Doctor recommended Physical Therapy.

Avatar m tn The difference in a herniated disc and a ruptured disc is... With a ruptured disc the pain never goes away. It is constant. With a herniated disc it can come and go depending on the position you are in. Herniated disc are painful but a ruptured disc is like a knife in your neck. I hope you feel better soon. Only and MRI will show you for sure.
Avatar f tn I need advice and answers. I have herniated disc. For the last week I have had numbness in right fingertips and left leg and foot. I am having trouble walking normal.
Avatar f tn Yes i have 1 herniated disc in the neck and 4 in the mid spine and i feel sick everyday and also have bowel problems..i beleive it is compression of the nerves coming away from the spine from the disc damage.
