celebrex and potassium

I knew nothing about potassium levels until this event. It took eight bags of potassium and eighteen hours of IV to bring my level up to 3.5. The low level shut down my GI system and I'm told that my level could have caused a stroke or heart attack. It got low because of a water pill I take and lasix which I sometimes add in because of leg swelling due to meds- celebrex and gabapentin. now I know I should have the Doctor monitor my potassium levels while on these drugs.

Oddly, when I was put on diuretics prior to hospital stay, my heart enlarged, urination qaudrupled, and I flushed all the potassium and salt out of my system, and passed out with an over working heart. While at the ER, the ER doc said I had congestive heart failure, the 2nd morning, I had a stress test, passed with ease, then during the week a heart cath, no abnormalities. After leaving the hospital, I visit my cardiologist that performed serious of test, ultrasound, echo, etc....

Has he Dr ever mentioned putting her on water and potassium pills? My sister has had to use this treatment a few times for the severe swelling. Please keep us up to date on what her Dr says.

Once your inflammation dissipates and you stop taking Celebrex everything should return to normal, that is, if you didn't have high morning glucose levels previously. IMHO.

I don't think it should be an issue, I took Celebrex and Morphine for an extended time with no issue. Ask your doctor about any concerns though.

Hi so I have real bad body pain and health issues that cause it. I have found myself buying pain pills Percocet 5/325 and Vic 10s and take 1 sometimes 2 a day. And have been for a little over a month now. However my Dr is now giving me celebrex and it isn't working and I am scared that I am building up a tolerance to pills. Should I go a week and be miserable and then try the celebrex? My body hurts so bad I can't even move some days and I have 5 kids with the youngest being 2 yrs old.

My two daughters take Celebrex as a person would take Advil here or there and do fine with it .. they both cannot take ibuprofen. My son cannot take it since birth as he gets bad reflux from in .. They make custom made ibuprofen suppositories if you really need a NSAID but cannot do it by mouth and they are wonderful .. you need a compounding pharmacy but my co pay was only $8.00!

Has anyone used Celebrex for their Crohn's? I have severe joint point pain and I have been told that Celebrex is a huge help for this. I am wondering about side effects and medicine interactions.

She is 64 but she also has osteoporosis and arthritis in her lower back. The back doctor just prescribed Celebrex, is this the safest drug for her? Also what should people with Hep C do to better care for their liver eventhough so far she seems to have a healthy liver. For the osteoporosis she is on Fosamax. She has been on it for several years. I am just afraid that too many potent drugs can be harmful for her liver.

my gi didnt even know the dose to celebrex so i doubt he knows if its good to my liver! im telling yall hes stupid and i need to find a new dr asap!

Hey Hopey. I was just prescribed Celebrex too!! I'm very anxious to see how well it helps b/c i have constant back pain and have tried several meds that haven't given ANY relief. I started the Celebrex today, 600 mgs. And will take 400 mgs/day after today. The dr DID say it can take a few days to start feeling relief from it.

I have been on methotrexate and celebrex for at least 15 years, probably long. I am currently in a tremendous amount of pain in my fingers, elbows, shoulders, left knee and left hip. Volteran gel has not helped at all and neither has Aleve. Can I take tramadol with these two drugs? I have recently switched my insurance and am waiting to get into a new rheumatologist.

t really that affective for me but my insurance made me try practically every NSAID on the market before they would approve Celebrex. They denied Celebrex and even recommended a PPI (ulcer med) to take with the NSAID's because they didn't want to pay for Celebrex. After they denied me 4 or 5 times, they finally approved it. So now I take 400mg of Celebrex a day and it's a lot more effective than any other NSAID i've been on.

Does anyone take celebrex?I started Prozak last week and they want me to take celebrex too. They say my liver can take it, (stage 2 fibrosis). But I am afraid of the NSAIDs in celebrex, any one else taking it? Oh, I am on Methadone too. I am having my first liver biopsy in the morning, so I will find out more about my liver. No, it would be unheard of for Celebrex to damage your heart valve. Celebrex and similar drugs do cause high blood pressure in many individuals, though. You might have gone forever and not known about the heart valve if you had not gotten high blood pressure from the Celebrex. Follow whatever advice the cardiologist gave you, and don't worry.

hi i have arthritis and i have had 4 joints totally replaced and i am only 35 with no kids. i am having so severe side effects from my med mainy celebrex i have had an heart test and was seen as early polarization , diagnosed with chronic gastrointestinal reflux and have skin rash and legions . i am thinking of a claim against them . but in the main time i dont want my doctors to feel bad as they have been with me since my early twenties.

I have the same problem with my shoulder and did the steroid injection and am on celebrex. I completely understand your fears. I also didnt want to take the celebrex at first because of the scary side effects but in the end the benefits out weigh the risks. You need an antiinflammatory to speed the healing. It won't be needed long term.

Celebrex is a NSAID... for some it may be ok and others not..largely depends on the condition of your liver and other health factors that the prescribing doctor should be aware of ... here is a past discussion on pain meds. i have fibromialgia and arthritis and bone spurs in my neck and shingles should i be taking all this and will the tierdness ever go away?

Naproxen is just ibuprofen, which is Motrin and Aleve. I would think Celebrex would help a lot more than Naproxen. It can't hurt to ask for it. Naproxen didn't do anything for me, except hurt my stomach. The Celebrex helped a lot, right away.

Is there any way you can be over medicated with the enbrel and celebrex? For the fatigue I use vitamin B complex. This really helps me. Good luck and dont give up!

You are correct. I have had patients on Celebrex and NSAID develop fluctuating vision. However, it is best to be safe and get you macular checked with an OCT. There many cause of loss of central vision. Dr. O.
