Celebrex and heart problems

Common Questions and Answers about Celebrex and heart problems

celebrex

Avatar f tn t think you would have much of a case if you did file against the manufacturer of Celebrex. GI problems, rashes, and even heart problems are documented possible side effects of Celebrex and many other non-steroidal anti-inflammatories. The GI problems are the most common and the heart problems and rashes are listed as being in the category of SEVERE side effects of the med and if you experience any of them, to contact your doctor right away.
Avatar f tn t really that affective for me but my insurance made me try practically every NSAID on the market before they would approve Celebrex. They denied Celebrex and even recommended a PPI (ulcer med) to take with the NSAID's because they didn't want to pay for Celebrex. After they denied me 4 or 5 times, they finally approved it. So now I take 400mg of Celebrex a day and it's a lot more effective than any other NSAID i've been on.
Avatar f tn true, I was on celebrex for a short time and it did not work for me. I thought it was making even more edgy and did not help with my muscle & joint pain. I think just like everything else, it is different for different people. Good luck & welcome to the forum.
Avatar m tn Meloxicam is just a glorified Ibuprofen/Aleve med, so you could always try those OTC. You can take up to 800 mg Ibuprofen every 8 hours or 500mg of Aleve twice a day in it's place. Celebrex is a name brand drug and insurance companies hate those namebrands. lol Your doc can sometimes do a prior authorization, though, to get them to pay for it, which is basically paperwork explaining that you' ve tried other things and this is the only drug that works for you.
Avatar n tn I too had GERD and never had problems with NSAIDS exacerbating the GERD. HOWEVER, .my stomach itself cannot handle NSAIDS for more than two days. I get bad heartburn. Have had a lap Nissen for the GERD and am doing great, but cannot tolerate NSAIDS for long. You may have to try and just see.
Avatar n tn She is 64 but she also has osteoporosis and arthritis in her lower back. The back doctor just prescribed Celebrex, is this the safest drug for her? Also what should people with Hep C do to better care for their liver eventhough so far she seems to have a healthy liver. For the osteoporosis she is on Fosamax. She has been on it for several years. I am just afraid that too many potent drugs can be harmful for her liver.
Avatar f tn No, it would be unheard of for Celebrex to damage your heart valve. Celebrex and similar drugs do cause high blood pressure in many individuals, though. You might have gone forever and not known about the heart valve if you had not gotten high blood pressure from the Celebrex. Follow whatever advice the cardiologist gave you, and don't worry.
874521 tn?1424116797 NSAIDS have a bad reputation for heart disease and stroke and he is totally against there use. cortisone also has its risks...injury, precursor to diabetes and perhaps alot more. And if the benefits only last for a few weeks whats the point also I think they will only do 3-4 shots a year. So for me I must use the NSAIDS for some control.
Avatar n tn I am a 43yo f, normal weight and BMI. I have a strong hx of heart disease in both parents (stenting, Afib and MI, strong sib hx of hypertension too). Was dx with post partum cardiomyopathy, then PE in Dec 2005/Jan 2006. I have HTN is well controlled. Asthma, an unconfirmed dx of inclusion body myositis or polymyositis (dx at the same time during hospitalizations), I was on steroid treatment, so did not do the muscle biopsy. All dx were backed up by clinical picture and bloodwork.
Avatar m tn I have severe joint point pain and I have been told that Celebrex is a huge help for this. I am wondering about side effects and medicine interactions.
Avatar m tn You are correct. I have had patients on Celebrex and NSAID develop fluctuating vision. However, it is best to be safe and get you macular checked with an OCT. There many cause of loss of central vision. Dr. O.
Avatar m tn Hello tobinc, I just finished reading your comments. If I understand you correctly, you say you are having some issues with your left shoulder and neck. My chiropractor, I have neck and back issues, says that sometimes if you have a problem with neck pain it can connect with your shoulder. My husband actually has problems with his right shoulder and neck. He picked up something really heavy while helping his mom and dad at their house and threw out his shoulder.
Avatar n tn Once your inflammation dissipates and you stop taking Celebrex everything should return to normal, that is, if you didn't have high morning glucose levels previously. IMHO.
Avatar f tn I know many that take the Diamox with no problems, same with Celebrex...but, u had issues with the Diamox, just as I know those that had issues with Celebrex. All u can do is try it and see how it goes for u...and do let us know : ) I pray it works well for u.
Avatar n tn i have fibromialgia and arthritis and bone spurs in my neck and shingles should i be taking all this and will the tierdness ever go away?
Avatar m tn I don't think it should be an issue, I took Celebrex and Morphine for an extended time with no issue. Ask your doctor about any concerns though.
Avatar n tn 4, my ferritin is 5, hemocrit is 33, I have a headache everyday, and am really tired, I also have pains in my chest that come and go, I went to the emergency room and was diagnosed with heartburn, so I have been taking nexium everyday, but I also have arthritis and was taking Celebrex. Since the blood work and the results the doctor told me to stop taking the Celebrex and just to take Tylenol instead. The doctor now wants me to have an upper GI evaluation. What could possibly be wrong?
Avatar m tn I think my back pain is due to my kidney problems but my leg pain is due to a heart cath the doctor said he had hit a nerve and that it would get better but its been a year and its gotten worse not better.
Avatar m tn 2 times and less than 3 times the upper limit of normal) of liver associated enzymes was 6% for CELEBREX and 5% for placebo, and approximately 0.2% of patients taking CELEBREX and 0.3% of patients taking placebo had notable elevations of ALT and AST. A patient with symptoms and/or signs suggesting liver dysfunction, or in whom an abnormal liver test has occurred, should be monitored carefully for evidence of the development of a more severe hepatic reaction while on therapy with CELEBREX.
548642 tn?1266179652 my gi didnt even know the dose to celebrex so i doubt he knows if its good to my liver! im telling yall hes stupid and i need to find a new dr asap!
Avatar f tn Hey Hopey. I was just prescribed Celebrex too!! I'm very anxious to see how well it helps b/c i have constant back pain and have tried several meds that haven't given ANY relief. I started the Celebrex today, 600 mgs. And will take 400 mgs/day after today. The dr DID say it can take a few days to start feeling relief from it.
Avatar m tn I have been on methotrexate and celebrex for at least 15 years, probably long. I am currently in a tremendous amount of pain in my fingers, elbows, shoulders, left knee and left hip. Volteran gel has not helped at all and neither has Aleve. Can I take tramadol with these two drugs? I have recently switched my insurance and am waiting to get into a new rheumatologist.
Avatar f tn I have had a visual disturbance since going up on Neurotin and taking Celebrex. I have seen in the package insert of Neurontin that it can cause visual disturbances and rare retinal problems etc. I have also seen a New Zealand study recently that said some people get a visual disturbance from Celebrex. I am quitting both for that reason. Has anyone had visual problems from either drug?
Avatar f tn re active and it causes the pain to get worse so you have to rest and it gets better. I would recommend taking the tylenol and celebrex for a few days and resting up. See if that makes it feel better longer. You should still see the doctor, though. That's just a sugestion on what to do in the mean time before you can get into the doctor. I really hope that you're able to get into the doctor soon and find out what's going on so that you can get the relief you need.
Avatar f tn Hi Kat, I meant to mention that I ALSO take Celebrex and it DOES help my Arthritis and even though I have Heart Trouble they haven't given me ANY problems at all. As Karen was saying this SAME type of Drug was removed from the market a couple or three years ago BUT they left Celebrex. I take a VERY high dose of it BECAUSE my Arthritis is so bad and my Cardiologist is FINE with it. I take 400 mgs a day. That's one pill in the morning and one pill at night.
Avatar dr m tn Then a few months later I caught a bad cold and the congestion I then had was something like I had never experienced. I really felt like it was from the celebrex. Anyway, I stopped it and I never that those problems again. I just recently tried the new "Elations" drink. I comes in 2 flavors and basically is liquid glucosomine and chondroitin. It tastes good, I usually mix it with a little water or carbonated water. It comes in a 6-pack for $6.
293157 tn?1285873439 but then, she prescribed this and told me it was a Non steriod antiinflammitory?? and I reminded her I take Celebrex...she said how much and said to stop it for 10 days to see if this other med will help? I will try it and will take it with food.....also cut salt..and drink water.. if it hurts my stomach I will stop it and let the Neuro know. and let her know how my face pain is doing. she asked if I had been under stress at all...so yes, maybe she is thinking TMJ pain..and it could be...
Avatar f tn Thanks Sunny602 My echo does show that three valves are not working properly. I also have MVP but I've had this all my life. I also have sleep apnea on top of it all. I'm so tired and every time I lie down I become short of breath and my heart races.
