Common Questions and Answers about Causes of jaw pain symptoms

jaw-pain

Avatar n tn I have had pain in the left joint of my jaw for years now. As far as I can remember I have not been knocked in that area. The area of pain can stretch from the lower jaw area right up to my ear and can even give me neck pain. It causes pain when I open my mouth wide and always feels like the bones are 'clicking' and 'clunking' out of place. I have had phisio on the joint but that is only a stretch of the muscle and the pan is always present.
1127040 tn?1289718662 Thanks for your reply.. but would you be kind enough to tell me more that WHEN the symptoms have started (in thoratic aortic aneurysm) are they long lasting until they are treated? or do the symptoms resolve on their own on the passage of time without any medical treatment ? Furthermore can you tell me what is the likelihood of a 25 years old guy (who has no history of smoking) can have thoratic aortic aneurysm ?
Avatar m tn When you get the headache, try and keep a log of what you did, ate, etc right before you got it. Then you can look for similarities in what can be causing it.
Avatar m tn Well, without a detailed clinical evaluation it would be difficult to determine the cause of your symptoms. The pain could be related to causes located in the teeth/ gums/ ear/ throat, underlying bones, overlying soft tissue structures such as infections/ inflammations, neuro-muscular causes, injuries/ trauma, growth/ masses etc.
Avatar n tn I personally suffer far more if the left Circumflex forms a blockage. It causes throat discomfort, nausea, chest pain, jaw ache, dizziness and my blood pressure drops. I can also say that my chest pains have always been in the centre of the chest, never radiating into the arms or back etc. My legs also tend to tingle. There is obviously a big difference between strong angina and a heart attack, because one has the heart mucles seriously compromised, whereas the other can be reversed.
Avatar n tn I have elevated FREE T4 (148) and low TSH levels (.01) my symptoms consist of; occasional pounding heart, "heavyness" in my cheast, occasional shotness of breath, feeling of swollen glands - slight difficulty in swollowing, No other obvious symptoms of hyperthyroidism. I have had a long term problem with a crown that was not placed properly and my gum is always tender in that area. Can this be related? what else can be the cause of my abnormal test results and symptoms?
Avatar m tn Can someone just explain why i would feel pain in my head when i tap my jaw with my hand. Anywere on my jaw if i hit it with my hand i feel a jolt of pain in my head?? But i can move my jaw around perfectly so i know its not a jaw problem its almost like something is vibrating into my skull when i hit my jaw.
Avatar f tn Does anyone suffer from lower jaw pain? I have intermittent pain on both sides of my lower jaw but chewing doesn't make the pain worse.
Avatar n tn s know if you have ever had braces before, but if so, or if you grind your teeth, there is a very good chance you might have TMJ. It causes severe jaw pain because the jaw is not aligning correctly. If it is, you generally can not open your mouth as far due to tightening or sometimes you can even feel or hear it pop.
Avatar m tn For the first day, the pain radiated to the left jaw, and for a while seemed to originate from the jaw. Today the pain and pressure is better, but is now radiating to a slight soreness in the left collarbone area. I've also noticed that the pressure sometimes moves up toward the sinuses. I can also feel the pressure slightly in my throat. I have been experiencing some sinus pressure, along with a slightly stuffy nose and post-nasal drip.
Avatar m tn m thinking it could be TMJ - which is a disorder of the jaw joint. It can cause many symptoms, including ear or jaw pain, as well as headaches, etc. Do you ever catch yourself clenching your jaw? Does your jaw crack or catch when you try to open it wide, such as with yawning? I would suggest starting with your family doctor - just to rule out any infection in the ear, however, if it is TMJ, the best person to treat it would be yoru dentist or oral surgeon. Best of luck!
Avatar n tn My seventeen year old daughter was complaining of her jaw area on the left side of her face was hurting, thought maybe it was dental took her to the dentist they cleaned her teeth and said next visit they'd do a panoramic xray to see if it was her wisdom teeth, the following week her cheek and tongue became numb or didn't feel the same as her right side took her to peditrician they took did blood work for mumps which came back negative, she did have more fullness in left cheek, went back
Avatar m tn I forgot to mention this--crooked teeth don't cause TMJ problems. Statements like that come out of a lack of understanding the causes of TMJ disorders. We actually can't always know, but it is my impression as an orthodontist also is that the same things that cause crooked teeth (muscle forces and cranial/postural imbalances) also cause the internal derangements of the TMJ (disc displacements).
Avatar n tn what causes me to have pain on the right side of my jaw (upper) and when i get this pain i also get headache and pain behind my right eye. This has been going on for the last few months.
146298 tn?1258712247 They go from my eye to my jaw and specific points of pain are jaw, base of skull, top of skull, behind ear, where shoulder meets neck. When I have such a headache I am very dizzy, technically it's vertigo. After the ache has begun my nostril slowly closes itself and adds a bit to the pressure, but I've had sinus headaches and this is different. Something in my head seems to be swelling and blocking the nasal passage rather than the nasal passage being blocked and causing the pain.
190673 tn?1259203266 Dentists often can make simple mouth guards that are less expensive for more simple problems, as often clenching and grinding of the teeth causes headaches/TMJ pain (stats say 97% of sufferers). You may need a more complex mouth guard which can be made by a TMD specialist. The pain usually comes from the position of the jaw, and the muscles being in a tight position changing how the jaw and mouth anatomy sits, causing discomfort and occludes blood vessels.
Avatar m tn IF not, jaw pain can be signs of other issues, especially after having chewed lots of gum. You could have something known as TMJ and that causes jaw pain. TemperoMandibularJoint disease can be brought on by repetitive movement of the lower jaw, which can cause lots of pain. You could also have a blocked salivary gland known as siladentits, which causes jaw pain. I would recommend seeing an MD if you have not done so already. Both of the issues I mentioned can be treated with medicine.
Avatar n tn Hold on, opening that jaw causes the pain in the back of my head to be right next to my right ear.... Could that be TMJD?
Avatar f tn Hi, combination of your ear pain and the jaw pain could be due to sinus congestion. There are many cases where individuals that suffering from sinus congestion also experience pressure in the ear, with earaches and even jaw pain. The earaches you are having may be an infection in the ear due to blocked sinuses. Other causes of aw pain can be due to infection of salivary gland like parotitis, infected foci, osteoporosis related jaw disarticulation or fracture.
Avatar n tn For the past 3 weeks, I have had pain when chewing or biting down in my right ear and in that part of my jaw just below the temple. My dentist and orthodontist have said my jaw is disaligned in the past (I look normal though), but I have never had pain. My back molars do not touch when I bite, and my front teeth bite right together with no overbite at all. However, the pain has just now come and seems worse when I sleep on my face funny. Sometimes it is so bad that it is difficult to eat.
Avatar m tn My main concern is jaw pain. After short periods of running I am experiencing pain, specifically around my joints. After doing some light background research I saw this this could be linked to heart disease. Before anyone responds a few points should be made. -I was tested extensively for heart issues when I was 4 due to a benign heart murmur. - I have scoliosis which causes one of my legs to be approx .25 inches shorter than the other. I require the use of a lift in one shoe.
Avatar m tn Are any of you experiencing the following tops of pain either recently before diagnosis or after diagnosis of Hashimotos disease? 1. shortness of breath 2. pain in left arm 3. heaviness in legs 4. tingling 5. electrical impulses 6. neck and jaw pain 7.
Avatar m tnPain or tenderness of your jaw •Pain in one or both of the temporomandibular joints •Aching pain in and around your ear •Difficulty chewing or pain while chewing •Aching facial pain •Locking of the joint, making it difficult to open or close your mouth TMJ disorders can also cause a clicking sound or grating sensation when you open your mouth or chew. Seek medical attention if you have persistent pain or tenderness in your jaw, or if you can't open or close your jaw completely.
