326352 tn?1310994295 The daugher with the issues just turned 2, was diagnosed with asthma about 6-8 months ago (does breathing treatments regularly with Albuteral). She was allergy tested yesterday and came up with a 4/5 allergy to cats. She has moderate to severe eczema being treated with topical corticosteriods (Elidel, Elocon, something else) and has now been prescribed what is probably the REST of the list of cortocosteroids by the allergist. We've tried Singular in the past, but it made her mean.
Avatar f tn My cat has been itching her neck to scabs and licking herself bald. It started about a year ago. I took her to the vet and the vet tried to tell me it was fleas. She is an indoor cat so she has no fleas. The vet treated her for fleas anyway and it didn't work. She shave her neck to see the scabs before she said it was fleas.
Avatar f tn Allergies have a genetic basis but not always to the same allergen. Two parents with allergies (50% chance of developing allergies), one parent 30%. It is possible that it is an allergy, however make sure the cat wasn't bathed with anything, I reacted with hives once to the shampoo I used on a puppy at work.
Avatar n tn I'm so confused! My cat has allergies, and the vet has given her steroids, but that only helps for a little bit and I don't want to keep giving her that. I got out a healthy alternative book for cats and it says to give her garlic, and for her to breathe eucalyptus oil. I looked online at other sources which say garlic and eucalyptus oil are toxic to cats. I don't know what to do! I don't want to kill my cat, but she needs some relief! How do I know whats the truth? Help please!!
8778737 tn?1413827423 Anyone else develop new allergies? I just found out last year, I'm highly allergic to wheat products. And now, since the pregnancy... I've grown a reaction to my cat.. Or any animal... :( Anyone else?
Avatar f tn I washed it off the minute I put it on. I can handle some products, but I have to be so careful. Avoidance is what works best but I know that's not always possible. I've even spoken to my Allergy doctor about this and they are calling it a 'sensitivity' and not a true allergy, which would probably require me to quit my job and just stay secluded, so I hope it never gets that bad....but the sensitivity is bad enough...
152660 tn?1291755571 Has anyone tried Precious Cat brand Cat Attract litter or Senior kitty litter???? I ripped up the carpet she was going on. Now I have to try something to keep her from starting on the rest of the carpet.
Avatar m tn Hello! My cat Molly is seven years old, no clue what breed she is, I got her at a pet shop (I know, a bad idea). I was only eight years old so I just got her because she was pretty! She's a mostly outdoor cat during the day, but she sleeps in my room at night. She has recently developed three bald patches on her back/tail area. At first there was only one, but upon examination I noticed three, and possibly more coming.
Avatar n tn The fat lip also is commonly secondarily infected with bacteria, so I would recommend a 2-3 week course of antibiotics if not already done. The three types of allergies are parasite (fleas, mites), food allergy, and pollen/dust allergies. If your cat is already on a good flea control such as Advantage or Revolution, then parasites are less likely.
Avatar n tn I was hoping we would have come away with more information, and an actual diagnoses. To add to the mix we just adopted a cat a few weeks ago. My husband and I both have pet allergies, but he's never experienced anything this severe before. So now we're not sure what the cause is. I'm worried that this will happen again, and am looking for more answers before we consider giving away our cat. Any help, or insights would be appreciated!
Avatar m tn Now you have to watch out for air freshners, laundry detergent, room sprays or plug -ins, and cleaning products also, but I would start with the food first. You have to be vigilante about when she has her episodes and what she has been exposed to right before she starts licking and itching. Stress: Is another factor that may be causing obsessive licking for stress relief. She needs to adjust to her new home, and moving is always stressful .....for humans also.
Avatar n tn My cat has been sneezing and having nasal discharge for a month now. She has no other symptoms. She plays, she eats well. Just sneezes and has nasal drainage. Her eyes are good. No swollen or runny eyes. Is this allergies? I noticed she usually only sneezes when her nose touches objects or she sniffs. Sometimes mucous comes out with the sneeze.

905793 tn?1254273122 Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help me with the way my cat started acting. My cat is a 2 year old male, and just three days ago he began twitching alot. No particular area, sometimes its his ears or head, then it might be his back, or tail, etc. He tends to do this the majority of the day when awake.
Avatar n tn Hi there, I hope your cat started eating again? Mine did this in October. He stopped eating, we took him to the vet. The vet said he had allergies, gave him meds. My cat still didn't eat so we brought him back. It turned out that his allergies affected his pancreas and he developed secondary diabetes. We had to leave our cat at the animal hospital for one full week because he wouldn't eat. He was on IV. Once a cat stops eating, he/she loses the interest to eat.
Avatar f tn A cat that was injured before or hurt in any way often pull there hair out. Pain causes them to pull out the hair in places where there in pain or either itching from healing.
Avatar f tn How do y'all deal with cat allergies?!?!? I've just recently become super allergic to my best friends cat's and I wanna be able to go see her without her cats killing me!!! (or me wanting to kill myself for that matter!) It's really bad, and my eyes, ears, throat, nose and basically whole body have really become anti-cats lately :( What should I do?!?!?! Thanks for the tips and suggestions friends!
Avatar f tn Allergies aren't hereditary but they can come and go. Some people outgrow allergies and others get them when they are older. My little brother had a lot of allergies when he was a kid (including pet dander) and outgrew them, while I didn't have them as a child but became more prone to them as an adult.
Avatar f tn Thank you for your information and advice. I am investigating flea repel products and have a suggestion to use Dawn liquid detergent in a water spray to repel them. I will try it also and see if it keeps them from biting me. God Bless you.
