Common Questions and Answers about Cat allergies on skin

cat-allergies

Avatar n tn The rash is red and inflamed and I am unsure if this could be an allergic reaction to the cat. I have not gotten a rash anywhere else on my body. There are no rashes on other places on my body where the cat has touched. Also, the rash has no puss or blister like qualities. It is, however, quite itchy. Is there anything else this rash could be from?
Avatar f tn Food allergies usually manifest around the face and ears. Flea allergies will appear at the hind end where they seek warmth. Either way sounds like kitty is miserable. Also, most important :: You have a little child to protect and some skin conditions like ringworm, are highly contagious and everyone must stay out of contact with these sores. Best to know for sure and help your kitty and your family at the same time. Please let us know what the vet has to say, K?
Avatar f tn I use indorex flea spray in my home every 10month (it lasts 12month) and my cats are indoor cats. I read on here about allergies to fleas but she has had fleas before (when we got her) and she did not have a reaction then. She's been completely clean for over a year now so I'm pretty sure it's not fleas. I've also seen ringworm on a cat and it's not this either. I'm worried about her as she has been casting A LOT lately and wonder if it could be a skin condition.....
7639611 tn?1392877261 ve been experiencing itchy red patches of skin that look like a rash on my arms, hands, and legs. The skin on my forehead is red, irritated, dry and flaky, though not quite as itchy. The skin all around my eyes is also red, irritated, dry and flaky. Oh, and my nipples are cracking. I use a humidifier, and I've tried applying Allegra cream, Vaseline, and Neosporin. I've also been taking Allegra orally. I wash my sheets, vacuum, and keep my living environment clean.
Avatar n tn Otodectes, Cheyletiella, Scabies, etc, ringworm and other fungal infections, allergies (allergies to food can occur anytime in the life of a cat), bacterial skin infections, endocrine disorders and more. Ringworm, and some mites can be transmitted to people. Frontline does not treat mites. The topical: "Revolution" is for fleas, ticks, ear mites, and scabies, so it might be a good idea to switch to Revolution for a couple of months.
Avatar f tn Sniffles, I think you got that name regarding the allergies eh? First off, if your friend don't mind, make sure the cats can be brushed. You might or might not know this, but it's not the hair that we are allergic to, it's the cat's saliva. They clean themselves with the saliva and then it gets on the hair. So it's not just the cat/s, it's anything the cat licks or gets the hair after it cleans itself on. Brushing the cat before and after visits will help.
1756384 tn?1312562154 Even though I vacuum and dust continually!, cat hair gets up my nose, in my throat and "jumps" on my legs, makes me itch on my face and also seems to cause my itching uinder my breast area, around where my underwear where it is tight around the creases of my skin( inside thigh area for example). It also makes my mood suck! I have been on Singulair for one week. daily saline nose rinses, veramist nose spray. It seemed to help a little bit but now not much.
Avatar f tn It started with itching-like dry skin. Then I would get the itching on my face and my face and neck literally were red with swelling. I tried rosacia creams and anything to sooth my actually "hot"skin. I eventually called the doctor with probably my 3rd breakout in 5 months-The doctor was stumped. He put me on a steroid, antibiotic and bedadryl (interveniously to start) and it cleared up.
Avatar f tn I am currently 32 weeks pregnant with my first child and have been living with my partners family. His mom rescued a stray cat about 3 months ago even though there was a possibility that the cat could harm me or my baby. Pregnant women aren't suppose to come in contact with cat urine because it can affect an unborn child. Also, being that it was a stray I thought it was completey irresponsible for her to bring it in the house without having seen a vet first.
Avatar m tn my neighbors cat is scratching her hair off on her hindquarters and on her sides. she also has bumps on her skin. she doesn't have fleas or mites.
Avatar n tn yes my cat is an outdoor cat, i have spent alot of money on flea collars, tablets & sprays, i did buy frontline but i thought it was crap for the price.
Avatar m tn The colour of the patches is not worrying, but there are dozens of small brown dots on her skin, some are bigger than others. The patch that is on her tail and lower back has a pea sized scab on it. I have never seen her itch the spots and she has never over groomed. Anyone know the problem so I can treat it myself before having to take her to the vet?
Avatar f tn My dog had her blood work tested for allergies and is currently having shots now for almost a year. Her stomach is breaking out so bad now and her skin on her stomach has got so thin from all the Cortizone sprays, injections etc.. Our vet has takin her off all Cortizone do to skin thinning out. Do you know of any other product we can use instead of Cortizone. "Jersey" our dog is always licking and not resting much because of this.
Avatar f tn This needs a Vet visit and an antibiotic, allergies with cats appear on their skin, like sores and hair loss, not like with us and the symptoms you describe.
Avatar m tn I've developed severe allergies since moving in with my girlfriend who has a cat and a dog. So severe that I am constantly sick whenever home, find myself waking up in the middle of the night gasping for air (asthma - I have an inhaler), and hacking up a lung in the mornings. We've tried vacuuming more and bathing the animals but it being a small town home, living in close quarters, it does not seem to help. Now we are looking at me moving out and starting allergy shots.
Avatar m tn t agree with your Vet, even if it is boils......cats and their food allergies show up as skin erruptions of some sort. and to me this is an easy fix if this is whats wrong, easy and cheap...no medictions, just try feeding a new canned food...preferably with NO carbs b/c many cats have allergies to carbs. for a list of carb free canned diets check out the site I gave above...on the right hand side of her column...BEST COMMERCIAL CANNED FOODS.
Avatar m tn t know why that is impacting his life, but it sounds like the cat has anxiety. Usually if the cat has food allergies, they will scratch around their neck, top of their head and possibly around their face. It could also be allergies from something else, such as fleas, flea bites or dust. This is harder to determine and may have to be discovered by a vet. If they feel that is the reason, they can give the cat a shot that will temporarily relieve the itching for about a month.
Avatar f tn She gets scabs around her eyes, under her chin, and sometimes on her back and sides. Sometimes the skin around her anus becomes red and scabby and loses hair. The area around her eyes itches so much that she leaves deep scratches in her skin. Her case has become a topic of discussion at our vet's office, and none of us can figure out what's wrong.
Avatar n tn If your cat is already on a good flea control such as Advantage or Revolution, then parasites are less likely. Options to treat allergies are to continue to treat symptoms with medications (okay if symptoms only occur occasionally and your cat only needs 1-2 steroid injections per year), or to identify and treat the underlying cause.
779797 tn?1263618235 Ive got an 8 year old cat who has recently got some odd looking skin marks. It looked like he got scratched by something , but after the scratches healed, i noticed a bump and some weird skin. The bump is kind of small, and its all black. No red irriation, it isnt itching him, its just there. There was some flaking of the skin and a slight bit of fur coming out, but thats the extent of it. Note he is lacking hair in front of his ears, just normal.
Avatar f tn Only a skin test will rule out for sure whether it was cat allergy or not. Many people who own cats develop allergies after some time. The other possibility is pollen and mold. Please consult a skin specialist and get a skin test for allergy or a RAST panel. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
