cat-allergies

Avatar m tn This is the second time I have used frontline plus on my new cat. The first time , he was severly flea infested and was pulling his hair out. After applying the frontline he stopped this behavior. I applied it a day ago and now he is pulling out his hair again! Its been over a month since prior application.
Avatar n tn Otodectes, Cheyletiella, Scabies, etc, ringworm and other fungal infections, allergies (allergies to food can occur anytime in the life of a cat), bacterial skin infections, endocrine disorders and more. Ringworm, and some mites can be transmitted to people. Frontline does not treat mites. The topical: "Revolution" is for fleas, ticks, ear mites, and scabies, so it might be a good idea to switch to Revolution for a couple of months.
1178508 tn?1266793916 My cat had flies but for the past 2 months he has been treated wiyh frontline plus and is flea free. Now he has spots on he back, neck, and sides that he constantly licks. Some of the spots are raw and bloody at times. What could be wrong with his skin?
Avatar n tn There may have been a problem with that particular dye lot of frontline. I would also bathe your cat multiple times with baby shampoo to see if you can remove any residue of the frontline, though it may be a bit late. I would take your cat to a veterinary neurologist just in case. Frontline may even pay for it. Good Luck!
Avatar n tn Hi Kiki, My cat was just dx'd with herpes in her eyes. For years, we too, thought it was allergies, but no. According to my vet, herpes is very common in cats. The way I figured out what was possibly going on with my cat was to google "feline herpes conjunctivitis." Some sites will give you pictures to look at and compare as well as descriptions. Discharge from the eyes have many possible dx's, but a simple blood test will confirm whether your kitty has herpes or not.
Avatar m tn Hey guys I have a pug and a dsh cat both around 4 years old. About 2 months ago we found out our dog had fleas we counted up to 4 over the course of 3 days so we immediately gave him a flea bath (probably should have steered clear) and followed up by buying them frontline plus. They seem to be flealess since. Meaning I check often and haven't seen any flea dirt or actual fleas on either of them. The problem im having now is they both seem to be scratching around their face area.
Avatar n tn I don't know if this is behavorial or allergies. My cat, female has been licking all her hair off for 6 mo now. This happened sortly soon after she got fixed. She has always been on the thin side. I use Frontline Plus here in Florida. She is totally an inside cat. Now she looks naked except for her head and the places she cannot reach to lick. I took her to a Value Vet once and they told me to give her some hormone. This Did Not Work!.
Avatar n tn she lives with multiple cats and lots of other types of pets.we do not give her flea medioson because she is an indoor cat. 1 cat in our house is an out door cat, the rest arn't.( for the past couple months she has also been peeing all around my house) please help me!
Avatar f tn My cat developed a blading spot around the base of his tail 18 months ago. I frontline him every month as he is an out door cat, and i also use the flea protection spray around my home every 12 months. I took him to the vet, who said that as there were no red areas, his fur was actually growing back and it was certainly fleas. I doubted this, but bathed him once i got home, re frontlined him and treated the house. 6 months later it was no better so i revisited the vet.
Avatar f tn First for a little back story... I have four cats (two males, two females, all different ages, strictly indoor only, declawed front and rear, and all have consumed the same food for life). Until last year, I never routinely put topical flea medication on the cats because we have never had problems with fleas. About a year ago, all my cats went to stay with my mother while I was out of town. My mother has four cats of her own, and has kept all the cats in the past.
Avatar m tn I am hoping that someone can help us, we're worried about our cat. She is 3 years old and seems to have developed some type of skin problem, or something causing her to bite, scratch and lick herself all the time now. We recently had to move from our house in the country (nice and quiet) with just me, my boyfriend and our other cat, there she could go outside to a screened in porch or a 3 season porch anytime she wanted to.
Avatar n tn i gave my dog the frontline plus for cats by mistake.
1309318 tn?1273512602 My younger cat had an allergic reaction to it, very similar to what you describe in your cat. The skin looked healthy, but he lost hair around his neck. I stopped the medication for about three months, then put him back on the same medication. He is fine and hasn't had any more episodes of allergies to flea medication. I would consider this as a possibility if I were you, and I would definitely try to stop the medication for now and see if she improves. What medication do you have them on?
1110049 tn?1409402144 I put Frontline on my cat, who prefers it outdoors to indoors, but the fleas keep coming. I comb him with a flea comb every day, but thought Frontline was supposed to kill fleas, but I always find a few. Any suggestions?
Avatar n tn Recently my cat started liking her lower back excessively. This has now caused a wound like bald spot, which she keeps licking at. Also, a few days later I noticed that while eating, she would regularly freak out and flee, not in a playful manner, but like something spooked her (making herself small and running really fast or even backwards).
592969 tn?1248325405 Gave my cat frontline topspot yesterday for the third treatment of fleas. Have not noticed any fleas on him now, but wanted to be sure and vet recommended three doses, one each month 4 weeks apart. Gave it to him yesterday afternoon. He has been sick today, throwing up and lethargic. He is eating though. He usually is very outgoing. Could it be the frontline topspot or has he come down with something. He is not coughing or sneezing. If it is a reaction to the topspot, what should I do?
Avatar f tn my cat has broken skin everywhere his back around his buttocks his chin . can anyone tell me what this can be. i think it's mange. both of my cats get regular flea baths. no matter how much vaccuming clean of litterbox i do they come up scratching .
Avatar n tn Oh hun, those flea collars barely work. Well to get rid of the eggs I would suggest the following...this should be an ongoing thing you have to do: 1 - Wash all bedding thoroughly. While the bedding is free of coverings, vacuum the mattress, particularly in the crevices, where eggs might hide. 2 - Vacuum carpeting daily and dispose of used vacuum bags. I do not recommend placing flea collars in the vacuum bag, as the heat generated by the machine could cause noxious fumes.
Avatar f tn My cat has been itching her neck to scabs and licking herself bald. It started about a year ago. I took her to the vet and the vet tried to tell me it was fleas. She is an indoor cat so she has no fleas. The vet treated her for fleas anyway and it didn't work. She shave her neck to see the scabs before she said it was fleas.
Avatar f tn Took my itchy cat to vet today and yes vet confirmed he had an allergic reaction to the Frontline. He gave the cat a steroid shot to help him stop itching and some pink antibiotic drops to take by mouth. He's already way less itchy and it's only been a few hours. Vet suggested trying Program six month injectable flea control but I am so scared he may react to that!
1474611 tn?1416632958 s been licking and biting himself a lot lately, even after using a flea and tick type of medication like Vantage or Frontline, the kind you put on the scruff of the neck of the cat or dog. I do have to admit that the licking and biting isn't as bad as before.
Avatar n tn If the worm was creamy white in the back, with a dark head, it may be a small fly larva (maggot) or a flea larva. Please make sure your cat is on a good monthly flea preventative such as Advantage or Frontline, and make sure she is not rummaging through decaying trash outside.
Avatar n tn My best results when dealing with a cat and fleas have been to put Frontline (or sometimes Revolution, as my vet recommends it) on the cat, and to comb the cat with a flea comb every night (these are fine-toothed combs that the fleas get trapped in, and you then drown the fleas). The cat pulls any fleas out of the environment because her body is warm, and I physically remove the fleas from the cat or they die because of the Frontline.
899700 tn?1241892861 I have one cat and one dog and I need to purchase more Frontline Plus for both of them. I am considering buying it by the vial to save a few bucks. Some vial resellers suggest that the Frontline Plus product works for both cats and dogs providing the right dosage is used. I have the original packaging for the last supply of Frontline for both animals which had the single dose applicators.
Avatar f tn ve had clients bring in Frontline that was not really Frontline. There are lots of other causes of itching. As far as bare spots go, it sounds as if you should see your veterinarian. He/she should be able to help resolve those as shampoos and other over the counter meds rarely fix the causes of hair loss. It is likely he'll need antibtioics. As for Benedryl, it is only helpful in 30% of the cases and the hair loss cause can get worse in the meantime, so please see your veterinarian.
Avatar f tn most of them collected at the base of her spine where her tail starts, she has none anywhere else. I have another cat and a dog that get Frontlined along with nieve every 3month. I use indorex flea spray in my home every 10month (it lasts 12month) and my cats are indoor cats. I read on here about allergies to fleas but she has had fleas before (when we got her) and she did not have a reaction then. She's been completely clean for over a year now so I'm pretty sure it's not fleas.
