Avatar n tn I use the sweet bee carb counter it lists 200 top foods and their carb and glucose level
Avatar f tn You will find that you could sustain your energy better as well. Read labels and watch net carb (total carb-fiber). Should be 40g for guys and 20g for women on a daily basis.
Avatar n tn I am looking for some type of electronic, hand-held carb counter that has a library of foods pre-programmed into it. I would like it to be able to plug in the portion size and have it calculate the total carbs. Plus, I'd like to be able to add foods to it. Although his pump can do some of this already, I'd like to have a separate calculator that isn't attached to his body. I would also like to get a dry/liquid measuring set and a kitchen scale for home use.
193609 tn?1292180293 ve never been into the whole low carb craze and always knew it would be a way of life I would never be able to stick with for the rest of my life. Personally, I have anywhere in the mid to late 100's and sometimes even well into the low 200g carbs a day and have for the last year and a half and yet I've lost 165 lbs. I lost my weight by exercising and counting calories. Losing weight is really just a simple math equation and comes down to calories in vs calories out.
Avatar n tn The chicken is fine as it is protein, but the corn and the plaintains are quite high in carbs for a portion. Its a starchy vegetable. Check the glycemic index or a carb counter book. You can find this info online. I love corn also, just dont have it to often anymore.
Avatar n tn Well, I might as well get my 2ยข in here, too... Optimizing thyroid hormone levels, which should be your first and foremost priority, since no diet is going to help you lose weight until your metabolism is normalized. Once that's done, you should opt for a low glycemic diet, which is a diet that centers on foods that increase blood sugars the least. Those foods would include high quality proteins, vegetables, whole grains, etc. Do some research and find a list of low glycemic foods.
Avatar f tn It would help if I had a list of foods to go grocery shopping for, and what I could or couldn't eat.
Avatar n tn A well balanced diet will keep anyone healthy. The best foods for him are the same foods that are good for you. However, lower carb foods can help prevent highs. What a diabetic needs to understand about food is that to accurately count the carbohydrates in the food is essential. If you need help figuring out carbs, Calorie King has an excellent book which lists carbs for most foods and restaurants. http://www.calorieking.
Avatar n tn they give me indigestion. I do make low carb breads from time to time (particularly for my children) out of almond flour or coconut flour. There are some great low carb website for lowcarb baking (alldayIdreamaboutfood) is a great one. However, I mostly just stick with basic foods. Breakfast is typically just coffee with cream. Both lunch and dinner will typically be some sort of meat and veges.
Avatar f tn Obese adults followed one of the two diets for two years. Those on the low-carb diet had significantly higher cravings for carbohydrates and high-fat foods, although they were less bothered by hunger.
Tbd Thank you for this information!!! I am a vegetarian for personal reasons. I absolutely LOVE vegetables and have been told that my good cholesterol is super high because of this. I've looked into protein shakes since reading your post. I think I might try the Herbalife brand. Those darn beans - I wish I liked them better - LOL! I'll eat them in soups or chili in the winter, though.
Avatar n tn If you do a lot of testing for awhile then you will get more familiar with foods and how they affect you. Having said that; what raises blood sugar is carbohydrates, so as a rule (diabetes is all about exceptions to rules!) the more carbs you take in, the higher your blood sugar. High carb foods include pasta, potatoes, rice, cereal, bread and sweets. Some people find they can eat whole grains with less effect than white versions of these foods; some find it makes no difference.
Avatar m tn Depending on your results from your blood sugar meter you may need to eat much lower carb to manage blood sugars. This is called "eat to your meter" appraoch. An alternative low carb approach recommended by Dr. Bernstein is detailed in his book "Diabetes Solutions" and also discussed on Utube at "Bernstein Diabetes University". He recommends typically about 30 g of carbs / day mostly from non-starchy veges. You will need to experiment and see what works for you.
Avatar n tn I am setting my fitness pal goals to help keep track of my diet. Trying to figure out calorie/carb/fat/protein ratio. For someone pre-diabetic/possibly type 2. I am 5'4 195 lbs. I have it set for 1200 cal 25%carb 30%fat 45%protein. I have had blood sugar issues but haven't been sticking with the program. I have been feeling crappy lately so I started tracking sugars again and it's not so great. I plan to got to the Dr. next week to have my a1c1 checked. It's been a while.
Avatar m tn I have been Experiencing a pretty nasty skin rash on my chest, Lower back, under arms and stomach since I have stated a low-carb diet. When I noticed the rash about 6 months ago I was just trying the program for the first time and neither myself or my doctor connected the two together. After about 2 weeks of induction (less than 20 carbs per day) I began to slowly reintroduce foods back into my diet and the rash began to fade away.
Avatar m tn You need to be sure you are using the right Insulin Carb ratio for your doses before meals and that you have an accurate carb count. Calorieking.com is a good resource for carb listings in addition to what's on packages (and be sure to correctly measure servings). In order to gain weight you want to increase your protein and fats so that you can gain weight without increasing carbs.
Avatar f tn Most fruits people think of as fruits are almost all carb. If it's not fat or protein it's carbohydrate, which is why the whole concept of low carb diets is off. Vegetables are carbohydrates, but it wouldn't be healthy do without them. What low carb really means, or should mean, is avoiding simple carbs, such as sugar and white flower. Most fruits as we think of them are high in sugar, though it's not as quick to metabolize into simple sugar as processed cane sugar.
798555 tn?1292787551 I'm not a carb counter either but do understand the difference between simple and complex carbs. The former I avoid at all cost. But then there are certain complex carbs that does my body no-good too, like fruits. "Two bannas every morning for last 5 years, very convienient, good 'filler' and possasium, so thats bad? Bummer." You misunderstood the replies to your post. No one said fruit is bad.
Avatar f tn The paleo diet is the healthiest form of low-carb diet, IMO. I would not go on a low-carb diet that was composed of low-carb junk food. If you eat a paleo diet, you are only eating real, whole foods (no junk food) and no grains. It's a lot of meat, vegetables, and healthy fats.
Avatar n tn I am looking for an online list of carbohydrates in foods. I see small lists, but nothing very complete. Have you found one? I have a book or two but I would think it exists online. Thanks.
Tbd Many chose a new way of eating (WOE), LCHF (Low Carb High Fat). as diabetics it is carbs that raise BG, eating low carb works well for controlling BG. The "eat low fat" mantra is based on BAD science. even the US CDC says cholesterol in the diet is not a concern. Also when carbs are removed from the diet then some other form of energy is needed... fat. I eat under 50 gr of carbs a day and have been since 2000.
