Avatar f tn For me nuts is the trick and 3 meals + 3 snacks a day. If I it eat a fruit, I also eat a little bit of nuts, low fat cheese, 2% yogourt or even a piece of chicken or fish. You shouldn't avoid carb but choose well. Complexe carb and high in fiber help delay hunger and feel full. Whole cereals products went choosing bread and pasta go a long way. Also take you time to eat and drink lot of water.

594189 tn?1386916607 I agree with wonko. I am against any diet that severely limits any one of the food groups. Your body needs all of them in moderation - including "good for you" fats such as olive oil, avocado, fish, etc. Your diet seems to be lacking in fruits and veggies, which is where you would get a lot of your fiber. It would also appear that you might not be getting enough protein and I don't see any dairy, except the cheese and is that "real" cheese or cheese product?
Avatar f tn Low carb diet will help her lose weight. It will also reduce her insulin requirements (so she needs to monitor carefully). There are many online links (you will need to search as I'm not allowed to post links here) if you google low carb and diabetes management. For an excellent book look for "diabetes solutions" by Dr. Richard Bernstein. I found that book revolutionised how I think about diabetes and how I manage it for myself (all for the better).

Your body will tell you that you need the carbs when you first start... but after a week, my cravings have went way down. I'm even going to try a recipe where I cook the veggies I like on pizza, put them in a 13x9 inch pan, add sauce and meat, and layer with cheese. Put it in the oven and let the cheese brown. I love pizza, but it has a lot of carbs, so this may just work.

If it was a simple carb, it's consider off track behavior - a bad choice of foods as simple carbs will jack up your glucose levels. If it was a complex carb you're on the right track - a good choice of foods as glucose from these foods enter the bloodstream more slowly. Postprandial test times is 2-3 hours. I aim for 2.
Avatar n tn I take AM and PM Lantus. Just started on Actos 15mg. I've started reducing my simple carbohydrates a lot. Cereals, Breads, Potatoes, Rice, high carb. veggies. Substituting low carb veggies, low carb fruits, avocadoes. In 2 weeks I've reduced night time Lantus from 25U to 10 U and BS in AM 90- low 100's. Yesterday enjoyed burger with L&T,onion, mayo on lettuce with no bun.. Today I made unbreaded baked zucchini with tomato sauce and mozz. cheese. I'm also exercising more.
Avatar n tn I eat under 50gr of carbs a day. Reasonable or not depends on who you ask. We do know carbs are what your body turns to Blood Glucose (BG). Dont confuse the carb with the stuff its mixed with, vitamins, minerals. All those are available in other foods without the carbs.

Avatar n tn I have been diagnosed prediabetic in the last 6 months due to a slightly elevated A1C and both my parents are type 2. I'm 51 years old. I'm not currently taking meds, opting to lose weight, diet, and exercise instead. Now that I'm eating low carb, I'm trying to understand why 2 hours after meals my blood sugar is typically between 70 and 90 but nearly every morning after fasting all night it's typically 102-115.
Avatar f tn d suggest getting a carb-counter booklet at a bookstore -- in the section of diet books -- many calorie counting books contain carb amounts too. My number one recommendation is: don't allow diabetes to change your son's life. We look at it as an inconveniece (to say the least,) but it hasn't changed anything my son would normally do. He's a lifeguard and does Tour de France style bike racing.
