Avatar n tn Plus, remember that you are adding a 1/2 c. or more of milk to that cereal and you need to add in the carb count for the milk. If you add fruit, once again you need to figure out the carbs and remember that a portion would be 1/2 of a banana or 1/4 c. of berries. The way most people eat their cereal, they are easily consuming over 100 gms. of carbs in one bowl!!!! The most you should have per meal is 45-60 gms. The low end is for women and the high end number is for men.
Avatar f tn Hi, Your breakfast was very high carb considering 3 Weetabix (mostly carbs, check the box), granola/oats (also mostly carbs), and skim milk (also mostly carbs). Your reading of 126 after such a high carb breakfast may be considered normal. You might want to consider reducing carbs if you are concerned about diabetes risk. Bacon and eggs with a side of toast could be a lower carb option. Or if you really want to go low carb, with a side of vegetables.
Avatar n tn Hi, question. Diabetes is in my family. So I've become a bit more careful with diet and exercise. I got a meter for periodic checks. I always fast around 73-78. Yet after carby meal(pizza, burgers and fries), I tend to go up between 140-180. I HATE sticking my finger, and get worked up thinking about doing it at 2 hours. I'm sure sticking myself effects me, as if I stick myself then check 3 times in a row I see a steady rise. Anyway. I saw the Dr. I had normal fasting, and a A1C of 5.5.

Avatar f tn So I'm 29 weeks and my appetite is completely insane. I carb-load in the morning, mostly oats & fruits, and within the next hour I feel like I'm starving. Even while I'm sleeping, I have very painful hunger pains. I ear about every 3-4 hours and snack on fruits, veggies, cheese or pretzels. Is there any kind of tip or food that you've eaten that has satisfied your hunger? Because I don't remember feeling this food deprived with my first.
1855476 tn?1356739693 If you are eating low carb you need to eat more protein and FAT.. fat doesn't make you fat.. you just need to be careful which fats you do eat. Eat olive oil, ghee, butter, coconut oil, cheese, avocado, nuts and seeds, cream, whole milk... stay away from low carb low calorie foods, processed foods, breads, rice, oats.. starchy foods. Avatar m tn If I have a Fiber One Oats and Chocolate Bar (sounds healthy-yum), less than an hour later I'm hungry again. It's the sugar carbs. They spike my blood-sugar. Foods that are fibrous and made up of "complex" carbohydrates have a very slow gradual affect on my blood sugar. I make sure I have a good breakfast, with good protein like eggs, a trick I learned from Weight Watchers.
Avatar m tn Some of their choices DO have grains, but they are whole grains like Oats, Rye, or Quinoa...These are still considered low carb.....There's a difference here as opposed to typical dog foods that are full of cheap grains such as corn, wheat & soy making up the bulk of the product.....Actually, there is no comparison! Avatar f tn I would also eliminate gluten along with the low carb diet. If you try the low carb diet, make sure you take the recommended nutrients. They are recommended for a reason. And some people get silly with the diet and don't take in any carbs - DON'T DO THAT! Maybe you can call your doctor to make sure this diet is safe for you.

Calorieking.com is a good resource for carb listings in addition to what's on packages (and be sure to correctly measure servings). In order to gain weight you want to increase your protein and fats so that you can gain weight without increasing carbs.

And eat some fermented vegetables or yogurt with it -- I'm assuming, though this might not be true, that, being from South India, you're from one of the few ethnicities that can actually digest dairy.

1401296 tn?1280799533 Low carb does not have to mean no carb. You end up just eating the good carbs and in smaller amounts than most people. You don't have to eat bacon and pork rinds and it doesn't have to be unhealthy if you do it right. Most people don't do it right. They don't eat any carbs and then pig out on high fat protein. You can't go on and off as you please. Your body works differently on it and has a hard time switching back and forth.

Even for Atkins dieters, and even tho' the food labelling will subtract out all the gms of "itols" to come up with their net carb numbers, for diabetics taking insulin those sugar alcohols can't really be ignored.
Avatar m tn Actually, Bob's Red Mill processes oats in their gluten free facility - I react to oats and their stuff makes me ill every time so I just called up recently to ask, actually! :-) Sadly, the biggest issue with stuff like this often ends up being the cross-contamination. Fields that grow one grain and then another, and the second gets a bit contaminated with the first grain's residue left on the ground. Harvesters that harvest multiple grains and don't get cleaned properly.
435762 tn?1244682620 When in doubt, go for lean protein and veggies. Try and have carb-rich foods (sweet potatoes, oats, etc) in the mornings and before workouts and limit them the rest of the time. Try and stay close to nature and no processed stuff and artificial sweeteners and all that. You can totally lose weight with just diet but I feel like diet and exercise go hand in hand. And this is just my opinion but I would go heavy on the weights as opposed to light.
