Avatar m tn You need to be sure you are using the right Insulin Carb ratio for your doses before meals and that you have an accurate carb count. Calorieking.com is a good resource for carb listings in addition to what's on packages (and be sure to correctly measure servings). In order to gain weight you want to increase your protein and fats so that you can gain weight without increasing carbs.

1401296 tn?1280799533 Low carb does not have to mean no carb. You end up just eating the good carbs and in smaller amounts than most people. You don't have to eat bacon and pork rinds and it doesn't have to be unhealthy if you do it right. Most people don't do it right. They don't eat any carbs and then pig out on high fat protein. You can't go on and off as you please. Your body works differently on it and has a hard time switching back and forth.
10570408 tn?1412078257 Try leaving out the sugar, junk food, and grains, but add back in two or three servings a day of healthy but carb-y vegetables, and see what happens.
Avatar n tn Now sugar alcohols (mannitol, sorbitol, anything-itol) --typically used as sweeteners in alleged low-carb or sugar free foods -- are a bit less straightforward and are the source of much confusion. Even for Atkins dieters, and even tho' the food labelling will subtract out all the gms of "itols" to come up with their net carb numbers, for diabetics taking insulin those sugar alcohols can't really be ignored.
Avatar n tn From what I have read, the low carb diet is ideal for people like you, although if hypoglycemia persists, you may find that you need to increase the carb count in whichever meal precedes the usual glucose drop by a small amount until the drop ceases to happen. I encourage you to do some reading on how low carb diets work.
Avatar f tn and test your BG after 2 hours and 4 hours to see if your BG is in range. if its too high you need to check on your carb/insulin ratio to see if it needs adjusting.
Avatar f tn Meats are carb free most cheeses some sugar free stuff is low in carbs but not always carb free. That is a big mistake sometimes people make thinking that just because its sugar free its ok but sometimes sugar free stuff is still loaded with carbs. Example i was going to buy peeps for her for easter they were sugar free but still loaded with 28 carbs. I would find a knew doc an see if carb counting may be a good step.
Avatar m tn ve been on that High Fat Low Carb diet. But my mother is in town and after taking her to the city zoo, and doing a bunch of walking, I decided to take her to a Thai place. It was the first time eating a carb meal in a month. It was drunken noodles, with tomato, basil, and chicken. Some sites say that as long as it's under 140 im fine. But the internet says crazy things sometimes. I wanna hear from real people.
Avatar n tn Plus, remember that you are adding a 1/2 c. or more of milk to that cereal and you need to add in the carb count for the milk. If you add fruit, once again you need to figure out the carbs and remember that a portion would be 1/2 of a banana or 1/4 c. of berries. The way most people eat their cereal, they are easily consuming over 100 gms. of carbs in one bowl!!!! The most you should have per meal is 45-60 gms. The low end is for women and the high end number is for men.
Avatar n tn kidneys seem perfect, however, neuropathy in both feet/legs..had surgery to convert veins in both legs to arteries..lost one toe ..stroke one year ago but damage almost 100% reversed Problem: over the years have observed periodic shifts in avg. BG readings..in early May I observed a new 'shift' ..had to inflate Insulin-to-Carb ratio by almost 50%..now, a full 3 months later, and VIRTUALLY OVERNIGHT, my system has reverted back to my 'normal' (old)Insulin-to-Carb ratio ..
Avatar n tn That person would of had to eat alot of red meats. And yes its low carb. This means to count your carb it doesnt mean not to eat carb. So veggies and so on. Also healthy fats theyre important. And its also not about being a body builder. This diet low exercise like walking is recommended.
Avatar m tn Low carb. Cut out soda, candy & other sweets. Bump up your veggies & fruits, lean cuts of meat. Exercise.
Avatar f tn I am 17 weeks and have gestational diabetes. Luckily, I'm only having to monitor my blood sugar 4 times a day...so far so good. Hopefully it stays this way so I won't have to go on medication or insulin. Unfortunately, I am what they consider overweight and am predisposed. I have to say this has kept me in check and I have no gained any weight which was expected since I'm on low carb. This has been a blessing on disguise.
Avatar f tn I love to eat fruit, but someone told me that they have a lot of natural sugar in them so it is good to eat it, but in moderation. I agree with Marybz more protein. I eat a granola bar for lunch because it gives me protein yet I don't get a lot of fat and they are good for you. I worked 8 hrs a day on my feet also and someone told me that isn't considered exerise :( try going for a 30 min walk would be nice even though you are on your feet all day.
Avatar f tn I think there are two types of Weight Watchers plans you can do, the plan where you count points and the one where it is a lower carb diet. Anyways, I gained weight on weight watchers before, when there wasn't the lower carb choice. I am now doign South Beach and have had success this week.
Avatar m tn Just when I am starting to get my hormones in order this happens. My hemoglobin is normal on both tests. I eat low carb.
Avatar f tn I do work out, but I do have some weight to lose. I know all about complex carbs, carb count, protein with meals, and glycemic index and insulin resistance. All I ever see online is pre-diabetes and that's it. Being that this has been going on for a short time, I feel that it may be something else. I am going to the doctor in two weeks, but I'd like to research other possible causes while I wait.
Avatar f tn Definitely no sugar but it helps to walk for at least 15 min after each meal. Watch out with fruits Iuusually count them as my carb when I would snack. I had GD last pregnancy and it was a challenge but I stuck to my diabetic diet and was able to control it. The great thing about it is I only gained 26 lbs total, unlike this time around I'm 30 weeks and have already gained 27!
Avatar m tn Hello. I'm not a medical professional, just the parent of a kid with diabetes. I understand about the pump, it's not for everyone. High scores are a result of many factors, everything from the amount of exercise you get to the amount of times you use an injection site. It could be that she doesn't count carbs accurately. It could be that her carb ratio is off. It could be that she's stressing over her high scores and social life (stress makes scores higher).
