1301482 tn?1325722991 -) One snack that I REALLY like are parmesan/rosemary "crisps". Very easy to make - get a bag of shredded parmesan from the supermarket - it looks like shredded mozarella - Target have them - put in a bowl and add (preferably fresh) some chopped up rosemary. Put on a lightly oiled baking sheet in small piles (about 2" in diameter), not touching, and cook in oven at 400 degrees for about 8-10 mins. Remove as soon as they start turning dark brown at the edges.

You then have to go to the next step and let it calculate your actual needs, based on activity level.
Avatar m tn You need to be sure you are using the right Insulin Carb ratio for your doses before meals and that you have an accurate carb count. Calorieking.com is a good resource for carb listings in addition to what's on packages (and be sure to correctly measure servings). In order to gain weight you want to increase your protein and fats so that you can gain weight without increasing carbs.

Avatar f tn You could try making them now and start to decrease the amount of carbs in your diet. Instead of the candy bar, you could try a snack high in protein which will not cause your blood sugar to spike and then drop. Some snacks that are high in protein are hummus, peanut butter, you can dip veggies or fruit. There are also protein bars which are quick and easy like a candy bar. However, be careful with these, many are so loaded with sugar they are candy bars in disguise. I hope this helps.

Avatar n tn Hi everyone. Here's my situation: I work at the container docks in New Jersey, doing a physically demanding job called lashing. Suffice is to say that the work requires intense lifting, a good deal of climbing, and some very long hours (the hours vary greatly but generally I work two 22-hour shifts a week). So I tend to eat alot of food, usually not very healthy food, to keep my energy up during the course of the day.

Avatar n tn Hello Montydiesel, Just finished reading your comments. Perhaps till you are back home, you should not eat hummus or eggs. Based on what you have written, I'm glad to hear that you are going to ask your doctor for a referral to an allergist. As for over the counter medications to deal with this, I wouldn't take anything because you don't know what you're allergic to. Just avoid these 2 foods for now. You also may be sensitive to additives placed in a food such as hummus.
Avatar f tn Serve immediately with desired toppings. Store in refrigerator to keep fresh for a few days. Otherwise, freeze in a well-insulated container or freezer bag and reheat in the microwave or oven. Serve these atop a bun or just as they are. I preferred stacked high with veggies, a swirl of ketchup and mustard, and a few slices of fresh jalapeno. So how did it measure up? This variation definitely met my veggie burger standards.
1401296 tn?1280799533 Low carb does not have to mean no carb. You end up just eating the good carbs and in smaller amounts than most people. You don't have to eat bacon and pork rinds and it doesn't have to be unhealthy if you do it right. Most people don't do it right. They don't eat any carbs and then pig out on high fat protein. You can't go on and off as you please. Your body works differently on it and has a hard time switching back and forth.
10570408 tn?1412078257 Try leaving out the sugar, junk food, and grains, but add back in two or three servings a day of healthy but carb-y vegetables, and see what happens.
Avatar n tn Now sugar alcohols (mannitol, sorbitol, anything-itol) --typically used as sweeteners in alleged low-carb or sugar free foods -- are a bit less straightforward and are the source of much confusion. Even for Atkins dieters, and even tho' the food labelling will subtract out all the gms of "itols" to come up with their net carb numbers, for diabetics taking insulin those sugar alcohols can't really be ignored.
Avatar n tn From what I have read, the low carb diet is ideal for people like you, although if hypoglycemia persists, you may find that you need to increase the carb count in whichever meal precedes the usual glucose drop by a small amount until the drop ceases to happen. I encourage you to do some reading on how low carb diets work.
Avatar f tn Skittles are my biggest weakness! ! Lol I havent had dreams about food yet thank goodness!!
Avatar f tn and test your BG after 2 hours and 4 hours to see if your BG is in range. if its too high you need to check on your carb/insulin ratio to see if it needs adjusting.
87972 tn?1322661239 Ah, Bill- my friend...I never knew you were a hummus fan. I pride myself in the fact that everyone loves my hummus. (all the family is middle eastern....i'm the blonde). So, I gotta say....I bet if you add tehini (sesame paste) it will be even better. Plus as an "older" student...I just learned last week in my Nutrition class that adding tehini to chick peas makes them the perfect protein. Good to know for those of us whose appitites were ruined after tx instead of during.
