Avatar m tn Thanks, Lynn. I actually took Metformin for 4+ months prior to clomid, but to no avail. There was no change in ovulation or my cycle while on it. Unlike a lot of women with PCOS, I don't actually have weight issues-- I mean I could probably stand to lose a few pounds, but that's another story! :) I may have actually lost a couple pounds on Metformin, but other than that it didn't work for me. I just moved and my doctor here has put me on 100mg of clomid.

There are many online links (you will need to search as I'm not allowed to post links here) if you google low carb and diabetes management. For an excellent book look for "diabetes solutions" by Dr. Richard Bernstein. I found that book revolutionised how I think about diabetes and how I manage it for myself (all for the better).

Calorieking.com is a good resource for carb listings in addition to what's on packages (and be sure to correctly measure servings). In order to gain weight you want to increase your protein and fats so that you can gain weight without increasing carbs.
Avatar f tn Well I have been on this diet for 14 days where I eat about 800 calories per day, all good stuff - vegs, boiled egg, some fruit, tofu, rice cakes, ryvita crackers, no sodas, no junk. I have also taken up aerobic and weight exercise 4-5 times for 1 hour. I have lost maybe 3 or 4 lbs at the most - I usually consume about1800 calories per day. Why have I not lost more weight?

1201598 tn?1265473722 s not doing it so much anymore but I still use soy, like the soy crumbles in soups or the firm tofu in veggie stir fries. She also likes the Boca burgers, which is a soy burger. She also liked burritos with refried beans, black beans, pinto beans, etc. Eggs are a good source of protein and there's many ways you can cook eggs. Any kind of nut is good for snacking or cooking and a great source of protein. Cheese and yogurt are both good.
Avatar n tn s store sugar so bad. Also in any high carb diet - Carbs turn into sugar so elimination of that too is needed. Raising sugar levels with hypothyroidism can be very damaging to us. But we crave both these things. Elimination has to be #1 on our caution list.

Avatar f tn The thing he said about soy is still incorrect. It really has nothing to do with thyroid conditions either, because the information Dr. Mercola talks about applies to everyone equally. Avoid soy like the plague. Run away from it. Those soy meat substitutes that vegetarians love? Run far away from them. The majority of soy products on the market are GMO, making an already bad for you product even worse.

You don't have to eat bacon and pork rinds and it doesn't have to be unhealthy if you do it right. Most people don't do it right. They don't eat any carbs and then pig out on high fat protein. You can't go on and off as you please. Your body works differently on it and has a hard time switching back and forth.

Great in stir fry sauté the extra firm type in a frying pan with sesame oil and veggies or some soy sauce or a merinaide and eat it over brown rice. If you like pasta try Smart Taste brand which is high protein, high fiber, high calcium pasta that doesn't taste any different than regular pasta. They also make bread with extra fiber Nature ovens or natural ovens one of the two make high protein bread which is tasty.
Avatar n tn From what I have read, the low carb diet is ideal for people like you, although if hypoglycemia persists, you may find that you need to increase the carb count in whichever meal precedes the usual glucose drop by a small amount until the drop ceases to happen. I encourage you to do some reading on how low carb diets work.

Avatar f tn Please test at 1 1/2 - 2 hours after starting to eat. That will give us a better idea. Please also test fasting, if you can. At 4 hours after eating your blood sugar should be back to fasting levels (ie. < 95), so your numbers are a little high. However, 1 test alone cannot draw firm conclusions. Recommend you go to your Dr. and request Hba1c test, after explaining your symptoms.

That is a big mistake sometimes people make thinking that just because its sugar free its ok but sometimes sugar free stuff is still loaded with carbs. Example i was going to buy peeps for her for easter they were sugar free but still loaded with 28 carbs. I would find a knew doc an see if carb counting may be a good step.
