Avatar m tn I too ate bran cereal for around a month until I read on the forum the fiber causes the Riba to be excreted. Although, the trial did not tell me to stay away from fiber, nor was it in my rx papers. I changed over to high fat foods for breakfast, such as buttered toast, eggs, cheese, etc. I am 9 weeks post tx and UND so I guess the cereal didn't hurt but to be on the safe side switch your breakfast to more fatty foods.
451075 tn?1210258648 1 Cup of Oat Bran and 1 egg, 1 egg white with 2 glasses of water. Then throughout the day I have 4 more meals, consisting of either Chicken Breasts, Lean Beef or Fish. I drink water only and supplement with Glutamine (20 grams a day), Multivitamins, Vitamin C, Fish/Flax seed oil and Chromium. My main question is this: Is this safe?
405614 tn?1329144114 Hi, everybody, lovely topic, eh? Well, I've tried just about everything; I eat lots of fiber, drink lots of nice clean water, fresh veggies and fruit, and still deal with constipation that makes my back hurt and makes my bladder issues even worse. After hearing glowing reports about Miralax, and having my PCP tell me I could take it every day without bad effects, I bought the two-big-bottle pack from Costco.
362249 tn?1441315018 CARBS and sugars are the same as the above poster said. However, keeping away from the "sugars" is better for you...Count the carbs but check the sugars also...look at it this way...it is the sugar that goes straight to your hips...carbs are necessary, but it small quantities....also check fiber...the higher the better! it almost like "offsets" the carbs.
579258 tn?1250649343 I add ground flaxseed or oat bran to oatmeal, yogurt or baked goods I make. And when I buy cereals, breads, pasta or crackers, I try and find ones that have high a high fiber content. And just generally speaking, I eat whole grain products, lots of fruits and vegetables, beans and legumes so meeting my daily fiber quota hasnt been too difficult.
Avatar f tn One other suggestion that works for me is cracklin oat bran cereal. I think it is super delicious and it is full of fiber. If I have one bowl a day I am usually very regular.
Avatar n tn But for long-term use, this kind of fiber is usually used for things like cholesterol control, and you can do better with much cheaper bulk oat bran. Now, saying skip the Lipozene and eat more fiber isn't exactly accurate, as glucomannan, the fiber in this product, comes from a plant and is real food as much as any other fiber, given that fiber in itself usually has no nutritional value other than to help you either go to the bathroom or cut cholesterol, depending on the type of fiber.
Avatar m tn By the way, oat meal can never be a whole grain -- by definition, oatmeal is a partially cooked and broken piece off the whole grain, which would be whole oats, but for cholesterol the most important part here is the insoluble fiber or the oat bran. There isn't much of this in quick oatmeal, a little in rolled oats, more in steel or stone cut oats, and the most in whole oats, which almost nobody eats anymore. But you can just buy the oat bran and sprinkle it on your cereal.
Avatar f tn What do you guys eat for breakfast that you enjoy and get full? I can't seem to eat anything other than toast and peanut butter since I still get random breakfast nausea. Help?
Avatar m tn re getting stuck somewhere. Why would you want to eat partially raw oats? If you want the fiber, put oat bran in your shake. Not nutritional value, but it will provide soluble fiber that helps with cholesterol. If you want to be able to digest the oats, cook them and eat them -- probably much more nutritious than what's in your shake, if it's a high sugar or synthetic sugar protein shake.
Avatar m tn Fatty fish, walnuts, oatmeal, and oat bran, and foods fortified with plant sterols or stanols, have been found by some researchers to help control your cholesterol. There are studies that show a diet combining these foods may work as well as some cholesterol-lowering medicines to reduce your LDL (bad) cholesterol levels. Olive, canola, and other plant-based oils, are rich in heart-healthy unsaturated fats. Be sure to stay away from trans-fat and products prepared with trans-fats.

Avatar f tn When mine got really bad I took mirlax twice a day. It was so painful so now I eat oat mean with extra fiber and a lot of apples. Whole fruit has more fiber than juice. And bran cereal is helpful.
Avatar n tn Have you looked into adding something like oat bran or psyllium husk in his diet? You can usually find these at a health food store and all it takes is a little bit. If you hide it in pudding or yogurt it might go unnoticed. Just be a little careful with dairy cause it can make people really constipated. Also make sure to try to get him to drink more fluids- water is really important to help push things along, but if he won't drink it maybe apple or orange juice?
Avatar f tn I personally use a millet and rice flake cereal, add some oat bran and sprouted grain and bean granola-like cereal with soy milk, but you can use almond milk if you like, a piece of fruit and some nuts to balance out the protein when I choose to eat cereal.

Avatar f tn Increased dietary intake of fiber rich foods like oat bran will help. Diet should be rich in antioxidant vitamins found primarily in fruits and vegetables. Reduce energy intake to achieve ideal body weight. Avoid alcohol consumption. Exercise regularly, it is multi beneficial in that besides helping to lose weight and reduce cholesterol levels, it reduces stress and helps improve blood supply to the heart. Regards.
Avatar f tn Hi Jennifer! I took a Child Health and Nutrition online course from Stanford University (available for free at www.coursera.org) and got good tips for substitutes for all those highly processed ceteals we love. There are also cooking demos included in the course. Try making oatmeal: Boil 1 cup of oats in 2 cups of water for 10 minutes, adding a bit of sugar or honey and cinnamon abd chopped apple or orher favorite fruits.

Avatar n tn -) Rice in soups or casseroles-high carb. Pasta-high carb. Potatoes-high carb. Bread-high carb. Regular soda pop and fruit juices-high carb. Sugar is interesting-you can have your sugar and eat it too. If your dr tells you to eat less sugar you need to fire right back at him and say, don't you mean carbs? Do you know of anyone who sits and eats a cup of sugar? No. But I bet we have all eaten a cup of potatoes rice or pasta or bread....
432888 tn?1204072551 Meanwhile I am taking fish oil once a day, eating oat bran every morning, have gone off sweets and flour completely, and am upping the exercise. It is still a wake up call for me, to get off my bad habits.
Avatar f tn I changed my diet to oatmeal and 5 strawberries for breakfast, salad for lunch, dry bran cereal for snack, Healthy Choice Meal for dinner, and slice of bread n peanut butter for bedtime snack to take with my janumet. Because Janumet makes me feel nausea. My blood sugars are running 308 this week and last night it drop to 219 and gave me a headache. My doctors can't really do much about my meds because my insurance won't pay for my diabetic meds. I am using sample packages.
