484033 tn?1208516117 Hello: I just had a colon resection for a stage 2a tumor in the large colon. Thank God they found nothing in the liver, lungs, or 15 lymph nodes, but they want to follow up with "adjuvant" chemo. I might need the take home "pump yourself" type of treatment. I am very anxious about side effects. I don't do well with nausea and I have a phobia against vomiting. (ever since childhood). Any experiences you can relate?
Avatar m tn Mother (66F, colon CA IIIB) is starting her 4th round of XELOX (capecitabine+oxaliplatin) and has 4 more to go. Her neutrophils are naturally low (~1.6) without chemo (possibly related to the synthroid she has been taking since 2010?). By round 2 her neutro dropped to .6 so they gave her Neupogen and stopped capecitabine for 4 days. They gave her a longer-acting version of Neupogen before round 3 and lowered the dose of oxa to 90%. Before round 4 her neutro was back down at .9.
Avatar f tn I fully understand this. I think a triaged approach to what you want from your treatment would help and am sure you discussed this with your doctor. First and foremost, that the treatment is effective and purging the cancer and putting you into remission. But retaining your hair can also be on the list of things you would like. Lower on the list, but there.
Avatar n tn This includes the drugs vinorelbine, capecitabine, gemcitabine and the taxanes. Still another option, particularly if the cancer is at an early stage, would be to use hormonal treatment alone instead of chemotherapy.
Avatar m tn The drugs involved are capecitabine and oxaliplatin, my instinct is to protect my remaining kidney by not exposing it to toxins it may have difficulty in clearing. Has anybody out there had a similar experience or has undergone chemo with similar complications?
Avatar m tn My brother 51 year old had a expl laporotomy on 15 feb 2010, a single lymph node in the omentum was positive for adenocarcinoma with primary in GB ,underwent 8 cycles of chemo wIth Gemcytabine & cisplatin & also IMRT 25 cycles local radiation with gemcytabine .HIS CA 19.9 was initially 2400, then 400 in august but now is 3200.His latest PET SCAN shows some spread in liver, pancreas, infraclavicular node & is now being treated with CISPLATIN & CAPECITABINE.
Avatar f tn Had previous external beam radiation therapy to the liver Ascites, or are in clinical liver failure Markedly abnormal synthetic and excretory liver function tests Tumors amenable to surgical resection for cure Greater than 20 percent lung shunting (determined by the nuclear medicine breakthrough scan) Pre-assessment angiograms and MAA nuclear scans that demonstrate significant reflux of hepatic arterial blood to the stomach, pancreas or bowel Widely disseminated or extra-hepatic disease
Avatar n tn Xelox regimen (Oxaliplatin as infusion and Capecitabine as tablets) are given for advanced stage colorectal cancer. Please discuss with your doctor and read more about the sideeffects of Xelox, hairfall doesn't happen in this chemo.
Avatar n tn Before offerring any advise I would need details of the treatment she has received so far. What chemotherapy has she taken so far? Were the tablets she took capecitabine? What is her ER/PR/HER2 status? Has she received any Zoledronic acid? Please let me know these details. All the Best, and God Bless!
Avatar f tn Hi there, I posted a few weeks ago to say my Mum may be going on a trial as they were all out of options. She started the trial yesterday. They are trying a combination of eribulin and capecitabine. As it's a phase 1 trial it's to establish a safe dose so she will be given the drugs in an increasing amount to see what the body can handle and the effect it has. I will keep you all posted on her progress and any good news that comes from the trial.
Avatar n tn Dear Mum was infected with a mass in the ovary & she made the surgery last March to remove it & the doctor removed the Uterus, Ovaries & the mass & then after two weeks the result was positive so we decided to make CT scan & we found that she had another mass on the colon & some soft tissue in the Abdomen so directly we contacted another doctors in Jordan & there she had another operation in last April to remove the mass & clean all the soft tissues & th
Avatar f tn m currently on Alimpta, while not approved for the treatment of ovarian cancer here in the U.S. It is working and has put my cancer in remission.
1299647 tn?1329054747 My good friend is having treatment for bowel & liver cancer, he has chemotherapy weekly. After the chemo he says he feels he can jump through hoops for a day or two: then loses all appetite and eats nothing. The weight he is losing he can ill afford. When he thinks about or looks at food he feels nauseous, what can we give him to stop this drastic weight loss?
Avatar f tn Hi again, Hope you are still finding your vinorelbine txs tolerable, and that it is working well for you. I mentioned above that there were promising drugs in clinical trials that might become available in the future by the time you need them.
363682 tn?1299489362 Obviously, with a mass this size in the area it is, he has ruled out surgery and I guess any treatment would revolve around chemo only? I gather they do not routinely use radiotherapy here in the UK because they simply don't think it is of much benefit with PC. So ... it looks like my partner's hopes and aspirations lie solely with the possibility that one of the combinations of drugs may retard this horrible growth.

254544 tn?1310775732 It isn't common to NOT have Radiation with RA. Some will recommend that you stop your RA meds during treatment but even that is NOT always the case. I'm sure your Radiation Oncologist will clear this up for you when you meet. In days past that was true about Radiation & RA but not much now. Everything of course depends on your individual case and the Radiation would not be done until healing has taken place after your lumpectomy. Regards...
Avatar f tn Hi. To determine if the increase in liver enzymes is due to side effects from Oncolet or from the recurrence of cancer metastases in the liver, an imaging procedure such as a CT scan or a liver ultrasound needs to be done first. If no metastatic nodules are seen on CT or ultrasound, then the possibility that the increase in liver enzymes is due to new lesions in the liver is already ruled out. the next thing to do is to temporarily withhold the daily intake of Oncolet.
Avatar n tn Thank you so much for your fast reply, I've been checking all day. I forgot to metion that I also had a hida scan done of my gallbladder and that was normal. I read your last artricle and I know that CA 19-9 is not a screening tool for cancer. I was told about the PET SCAN and a test I think called ERCP, but I was told that since nothing else is out of wack(blood work) that insurnace will not pay for any of these test because of my age and a CA 19-9 can't be used as a diagnois.
Avatar f tn I also have a small spot in my pelvis and on my T9 spine. This all progressed during a hell treatment that almost killed me! Now I'm dealing with this. I researched and I am going to appeal the denial for a SIRT procedure for my liver. If that doesn't work I want to try RFA with chemotherapy. If that doesn't work I looked into the Ciberknife and my insurance won't cover unless I do conventional radiation first for the two small spots.
Avatar m tn Sorry new to forum and I didn't know ... Anyway I messed up. I am starting treatment sometime this month and am curious about side affects.
