Capecitabine and oxaliplatin

Common Questions and Answers about Capecitabine and oxaliplatin

xeloda

484033 tn?1208516117 Capecitabine, Fluorouracil, and Oxaliplatin. All three drugs, whether used singly or as part of a combination regimen, are relatively well tolerated and have "milder" adverse effects when compared to other chemotherapy drugs.
Avatar m tn Mother (66F, colon CA IIIB) is starting her 4th round of XELOX (capecitabine+oxaliplatin) and has 4 more to go. Her neutrophils are naturally low (~1.6) without chemo (possibly related to the synthroid she has been taking since 2010?). By round 2 her neutro dropped to .6 so they gave her Neupogen and stopped capecitabine for 4 days. They gave her a longer-acting version of Neupogen before round 3 and lowered the dose of oxa to 90%. Before round 4 her neutro was back down at .9.
Avatar m tn The drugs involved are capecitabine and oxaliplatin, my instinct is to protect my remaining kidney by not exposing it to toxins it may have difficulty in clearing. Has anybody out there had a similar experience or has undergone chemo with similar complications?
Avatar n tn Xelox regimen (Oxaliplatin as infusion and Capecitabine as tablets) are given for advanced stage colorectal cancer. Please discuss with your doctor and read more about the sideeffects of Xelox, hairfall doesn't happen in this chemo.
484033 tn?1208516117 I will be recieving oxaliplatin and I have read that it always causes some toe and finger numbness. Does anyone know if this can affect the use of the computer keyboard? I am also an artist and piano player. Will holding a small paintbrush or playing the keys be a problem?
Avatar n tn My wife also has allergic reactions to Carbo (and Oxaliplatin) and a number of other drugs. In order to maintain treatment she takes very high doses of steroids the night before and then immediately before treatment and she also has IV piriton (anti hysthamine). She needs to take lorazapam to counter the more aggressive aspects of steroid but it is meaning that she is tolerating her treatment. She has her treatment (Oxaliplatin, 5FU & Avastin) all in one day, but it takes 8 hours.
484033 tn?1208516117 The adverse effects are due to the Oxaliplatin and Fluorouracil (I have discussed this in an earlier post I sent you) but these are usually mild. You should be able to recover and feel better a few days after the chemotherapy. I have some patients receiving this medication who can report back to work two days after finishing the infusion. You'll probably do just fine with this regimen.
Avatar n tn This includes the drugs vinorelbine, capecitabine, gemcitabine and the taxanes. Still another option, particularly if the cancer is at an early stage, would be to use hormonal treatment alone instead of chemotherapy.
Avatar n tn Thank you so much for your fast reply, I've been checking all day. I forgot to metion that I also had a hida scan done of my gallbladder and that was normal. I read your last artricle and I know that CA 19-9 is not a screening tool for cancer. I was told about the PET SCAN and a test I think called ERCP, but I was told that since nothing else is out of wack(blood work) that insurnace will not pay for any of these test because of my age and a CA 19-9 can't be used as a diagnois.
Avatar m tn They are talking about using chemo drugs that are normally used for bowel and other GI cancers (5-FU and Oxaliplatin) as a second line therapy. I remember that Marie3B went on to something similar.(FOLFOX?) Does anyone have an opinion on this? Any experience? Marie3B? Clearly my wife has no response to standard drugs so I am not suprised that they are looking in other directions. Mucinous tumors seem to lack response against standard drugs so we are quite prepared to take our chances.
Avatar m tn Thank you for your response. We did meet with her oncologist again and he has decided to continue her on GEMOX-B. He said he would dose reduce GEMOX 20 % and she will get Gemzar at 800 mg(D1 and D8), Oxaliplatin at 100 mg(D1) and Avastin at 400 MG(D1 & D15) along with pegfilgrastim.
Avatar m tn Doctor (medical-oncologist) has suggested 2nd line chemotherapy with XELOX regimen (a combination of Oxaliplatin given as infusion and Capecitabine given as tablets in 8 cycles, where each cycle is repeated after 3 weeks). Usually this regimen is given to colon cancer advance stage cases. The nature of malignancy is of mucinous adenocarcinoma of intestinal type, and that's the reason they want to try out with these medicines.
408448 tn?1286883821 t really have any experience with Xeloda (Capecitabine) but just did a bit of reading on it and it seems to have quite good response rates so I hope it is successful for you. The drug should act on the tumor in the same way that 5-FU does as it is basically converted into 5-FU inside the tumor. This should mean fewer GI side effects and less bone marrow supression as you don't have 5-FU in the rest of your body... Good luck with it.
Avatar f tn Hi there, I posted a few weeks ago to say my Mum may be going on a trial as they were all out of options. She started the trial yesterday. They are trying a combination of eribulin and capecitabine. As it's a phase 1 trial it's to establish a safe dose so she will be given the drugs in an increasing amount to see what the body can handle and the effect it has. I will keep you all posted on her progress and any good news that comes from the trial.
Avatar m tn There is mild interval increase in size and number of previously noted residual peritoneal deposits in the mid abdominal mesentery, along the IC junction, left paracolic gutter and along the surface of sigmoid colon, the largest of them now measuring about 22 x 25 cm previously measuring 17 x 13 cm A discrete slightly enlarged right external iliac lymphnode is noted just below the level of bifurcation measuring 13 x 10 cm, which was tiny subcentimeter node in prior study IMPRESSION * Interva
Avatar n tn Besides Carboplatin or Oxaliplatin, another drug (non-platinum) can be added to Doxil and the results are encouraging. Please see link: http://esciencenews.com/articles/2008/09/15/ovarian.cancer.drug.trial.reveals.promising.new.
Avatar f tn I think a triaged approach to what you want from your treatment would help and am sure you discussed this with your doctor. First and foremost, that the treatment is effective and purging the cancer and putting you into remission. But retaining your hair can also be on the list of things you would like. Lower on the list, but there.
Avatar f tn Now we are planning the chemo and the debate is on Carboplatin + taxol vs Oxaliplatin + capacitabine. There are clearly two schools of thought and none is giving confidence that the combination will be effective. I would like to have some advice on this. Bala This discussion is related to mucinous Ovarian Cancer stage 1c .
Avatar f tn My wife is resistant to Taxol and is now taking Oxaliplatin (along with 5-FU and Avastin) and it is working for her. My wife has Mucinous type and these are very similar to bowel cancers. This combination of drugs is used mainly for bowel patients. Oxaliplatin is a platinum based drug, but her oncologist explained that in combination with 5-FU it works in a slightly different way so some people who are Taxol resistant can use it successfully.
Avatar m tn Tonight i just noticed a rash on my legs. Could this be from the medicines they used? I believe the meds are called oxaliplatin, leucovorin, and 5 fluoroucracil.
Avatar n tn My grand mom was detected ovarian cancer stage 3c in dec 2007 she was given paclitaxel/carboplatin as her first line treatment and then hysterectomy was performed 6 march 2008 and then again she continued chemo. But during the this time after about 2 cycles she again developed a tumor . the doctor called it progression in the pelvic region. he changed the medine and now gave her liposomal doxorubicin/oxaliplatin . But that also dint seem to work for her .
564735 tn?1263943526 I think irinotecan will be in the combo my onc is looking into for my next chemo if I decide to do it. It is in a combo like folfox called folfiri. It replaces the oxaliplatin. You had such a good response before it does seem your cancer is responsive. Mine was responsive in one lesion, but not on the tumor. One tumor grew while the other area resolved. Odd, huh? I wish you the best in whatever choice you make.
Avatar n tn Over the last 2 months since her 6th(and final )course of Chemo she has gone extremely week and lost at least 40% of her weight. Her Diet has gone decreased tremendously and she vomits if she eats more than 4 spoons of food.
