Can you take byetta and insulin together

Common Questions and Answers about Can you take byetta and insulin together

byetta

Avatar m tn Hello again. Your blood sugars are well above normal considering that normal fasting should be in the mid 80s and post eating should be < 120 (ideally). Considering your insulin levels are high, this means you have insulin resistance. I would recommend you go back to consider and try metformin / Glucophage, as the mechanism of this drug is to reduce insulin resistance.
Avatar f tn Examples are insulin zinc suspension, protamine zinc insulin, and the insulin analogues insulin glargine and insulin detemir. The latter two insulins are now the most widely used long-acting insulins. * Biphasic insulins: mixtures of short-acting and intermediate-acting insulins in different proportions, such as 30/70, 50/50. Examples are NovoMix 30, Humulin M3, Insuman comb and Humalog Mix25.
Avatar f tn I have been sick with a cold/flu for three weeks. Two days ago, I developed diarrhea. It seemed to occur immediately after eating. Today, the diarrhea was bright yellow and I passed something the size of a small grape (also yellow in color). I'm currently on synthroid (for hypothyroidism), effexor (for depression), and metformin & byetta (for insulin resistence). I've been on the Byetta for nearly a month, but have not suffered any side effects to date.
489891 tn?1209058786 My question is y are you taking byetta and actos+met... and I'm on topamx, but for seizures... I'm also on actos plusmet 15/500 just once a day, with a insulin pump ( i take apidra in my pump)... byetta and actos plus met are very similar drugs doing the same thing.. the actos+met will make you gain weight very quickly. Avatar n tn I used Byetta for a long time and I am not an expert or medical person. You are best to get the information from your doctor. Before I started using Byetta, I had to take classes from a nurse on how I had to inject Byetta into my stomach. It was prescribed by my Doctor. Byetta has side effects reported by some people but I had no problems with it other than the expense. It does give you a feeling of fullness and it has a nickname (Spit).

Avatar m tn I would like to add to Anita's solid advice. Insulin does have its adverse reactions. Excess insulin may cause hypoglycemia and hypokalemia, particularly after IV administration. Hypoglycemia may occur as a result of an excess of insulin relative to food intake. As with all medication, discuss in detail with your doctor the potential risks and advantages of the prescribe medication, including side effects. Talk with the pharmacist too.
Avatar n tn I have heard that Levothyroxine can cause you to gain weight. What is your TSH at now? My husband has diabetes and I have Hashimoto's of my thryoid. Are you a type 1 or type 2 diabetic? He is type 2 he started taking a new medication called byetta. You inject in your arm before you meals. My husband has lost 40 lbs in the last 6 months. He just can't eat like he used to since he has been on the byetta. It curves your appetite and apparently helps your body produce it's own insulin.
Avatar m tn can anyone tell me how much time does it take for metformin to effect the insulin level . and i dont see major sideeffect caused by metformin . what do u guys think . i was overweight , now i reduced my weight to the normal range with dieting and exercise still my insulin is high . every help will be hugely appreciated i am currently writing this with huge brainfogg and sleepiness .
Avatar m tn However, sounds like he needs a lot more adjustment of his insulin. Perhaps you can attend some education classes so you can help him. Maybe you should also be attending his drs appointments with him to ask questions and make sure all possible is being done. His level of blood sugars are very detrimental to his health. At his age it is critical to get things in better control and regain his appetite before. Best wishes to you and your father.
Avatar m tn I would really like some help with this. Byetta has been wonderful so far, and I've lost 30 lbs, yay! But now I've developed insomnia - terrible, only 3 hours of sleep a night insomnia, which has never bothered me before. If I skip my second Byetta shot for the day, I can usually get a full night's sleep. So that's certainly a clue that I may not be able to take the full two doses of Byetta a day.
Avatar n tn Do you know what I could research on the web. Thank you for any time and support to help me understand, and research whats happening to me.
Avatar n tn Hello =) I'm 34 years old and am about to begin my first cycle with the ovulation drug clomid. I'm a type 2 diabetic, have PCOS, and I have PSVT. I take Byetta, metformin, and metoprolol. I have been working with my Dr. for about 18 months to loose weight (I've lost over 60 lbs), get my blood sugar under control (my last 2 AICs were normal), and get medically ready to have a child. Last week he told us he feels comfortable with my heath for my husband and I to try to get pregnant.
Avatar f tn I see that this is under juvenile diabetes, which I know even less about. But, Byetta is remarkable for a lot of folks, and there are two newer, similar, products available also.
Avatar m tn Making things interesting, I am also a diabetic, recently put on insulin. Prior to that, I had tried Byetta for the diabetes, which created a lot of nausea, with occasional dry heaves. It has been a year since then, but I am still experiencing nausea on a daily basis most of the time. It is quick--comes on fast, and passes quickly. It often happens in the morning and food helps a bit. Any time I am hungry, I am vulnerable. But, it can happen almost any time.
Avatar m tn s way of dosing insulin is rather old-fashioned and there are new dosing regimes that can be more effective. Such as dosing your insulin to give a basal level, and then dosing based on carbs/fat/and protein in every meal. There is good information on line and website that offer support and information for lower carb diets and diabetes management. Please send me a message directly to my mailbox and I'll send you a link to a support community, if you are interested.
233616 tn?1312787196 Of course, no matter how simple one tries to make all of this, it does get complicated. If you take antacids or proton pump inhibitors this will effect the treatment drugs and how absorbable they will be, if you take antidepressants you may have to be switched to a safer one than the one you take. This is because an SSRI using the same substate could result in serotonin overload and poisoning, a serious issue.
1273125 tn?1365077526 to use insulin you have to count carbs and inject for the carbs eatin take to much insulin and you go low, not enough insulin you go high. insulin done wrong can do more damage I think insulin done rite more work than eating rite.
502219 tn?1311357910 In March while following up on a case of Ludwigs Angina my enhanced CT scan showed.small non pathologically enlarged lymph nodes bilaterally with some inhomogeneity within the thyroid. I hadn't really worried about it until today when I saw a commercial for a law firm warning that the diabetic drug "Byetta" could cause thyroid cancer. I used this med for over a year in 2006 and was taken off because of other complications. Now I'm scared. Should I be?
Avatar n tn I think that with the insulin resistance that their cells are not accepting the energy effectively and it is mostly being stored as fat. On my study of Insulin Resistance, a calorie can become more than a calorie. I have been to the doctor. They tell me it is input as opposed to output. They keep turning it back on me. I don't know what else I can do. I don't know why they keep gaining. I feel that there are factors beyond my control.
Avatar f tn m assuming you are diagnosed Type II diabetic? What regimen are you on? Diet and exercise? Oral meds? Insulin? You are right that 44 is much too low and 255 is much too high. Your diabetes is obviously not under control. That should be your key goal, making changes in diet, exercise and medication so that, at least most of time your glucose is in range. I'm not sure who told you to take 8 glucose tablets but that is way too much and will make you go high and the yo-yo is not a good thing.
Avatar n tn can you take methadone and catapres together? and if you do take both catapres and methadone ,how will it affect you?
Avatar n tn l have a spiking bsl to 17 (waking bsl 7) after breaky which is plain oatmeal tea with skim milk, thereafter it settles down to 9.5 and 8"s throughtout the day. l am on byetta 5up twice daily plus metfromin and glazide 60mg. any one else have this issue?
Avatar n tn I didn't respond to your question. I don't know anything about Byetta.
1273125 tn?1365077526 From my doctor: I agree that many times patients are not started on insulin in a timely manner. However, insulin is not always the best option. Hypoglycemia is deadly and has a much morbitity associated. Your a1c has been well controlled until 4/13. In 11/12 it was 6.6 and prior to that normal @ <6.0. In correlation with that your weight went from 188.4 to 223.4. Insulin is anabolic and in the vast majority of patients cause weight to escalate.
Avatar f tn I am currently trying to taper off of Lortab after a failed C/T attempt and am having sleep issues. I was wondering if any of you know if you can take Wellbutrin and Melatonin at the same time. I took Wellbutrin for a Post-Traumatic Stress situation last year and then stopped once my depression was mostly over and then I started using it again about two weeks before I decided to quit the pills in the hopes that it would help the depression that i knew would happen.
