Byetta and insulin resistance syndrome

Common Questions and Answers about Byetta and insulin resistance syndrome

Avatar m tn The state of the art approach for all newly diagnosed type 2 people (you can look up joslin diabetes centre), is to start them on metformin to reduce the insulin resistance, and then to give them insulin. If you are early enough in the diagnosis, you will need only low doses of insulin to get excellent blood sugar. This is far safer and more effective than multi-oral therapy.
Avatar n tn My TSH was at 1.4 in feb. and something else was 0.434 . I am type 2 and on 35 units of Lantus and sliding scale of novolog.
Avatar m tn can anyone tell me how much time does it take for metformin to effect the insulin level . and i dont see major sideeffect caused by metformin . what do u guys think . i was overweight , now i reduced my weight to the normal range with dieting and exercise still my insulin is high . every help will be hugely appreciated i am currently writing this with huge brainfogg and sleepiness .
Avatar m tn Like byetta or something. Also I read that crf causes insulin resistance. Any ideas?? His bs has been 350- 500 before adding fast insulin.
Avatar f tn Examples are insulin zinc suspension, protamine zinc insulin, and the insulin analogues insulin glargine and insulin detemir. The latter two insulins are now the most widely used long-acting insulins. * Biphasic insulins: mixtures of short-acting and intermediate-acting insulins in different proportions, such as 30/70, 50/50. Examples are NovoMix 30, Humulin M3, Insuman comb and Humalog Mix25.
Avatar n tn I used Byetta for a long time and I am not an expert or medical person. You are best to get the information from your doctor. Before I started using Byetta, I had to take classes from a nurse on how I had to inject Byetta into my stomach. It was prescribed by my Doctor. Byetta has side effects reported by some people but I had no problems with it other than the expense. It does give you a feeling of fullness and it has a nickname (Spit).
489891 tn?1209058786 My question is y are you taking byetta and actos+met... and I'm on topamx, but for seizures... I'm also on actos plusmet 15/500 just once a day, with a insulin pump ( i take apidra in my pump)... byetta and actos plus met are very similar drugs doing the same thing.. the actos+met will make you gain weight very quickly. How many shots of byetta are you taking a day a long with the actos plus met? and what dose of actos are you taking and why...
Avatar f tn If you are type 2, insulin resistance is considered key part of the problem (though insulin resistance can also happening in Type 1). To address insulin resistance you can:- 1. Lose excess weight if you are overweight 2. Adopt a low carb or even a ketogenic diet (be sure to get enough protein and don't overdo the fats) 3. Regular vigorous physical exercise 4. Insulin sensitizing drug such as metformin.
Avatar n tn Metabolic syndrome is also known as syndrome X or insulin-resistance syndrome; the majority of patients with PCOS have insulin resistance and/or are obese; insulin resistance is a listed side effect of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART).
Avatar f tn I have been sick with a cold/flu for three weeks. Two days ago, I developed diarrhea. It seemed to occur immediately after eating. Today, the diarrhea was bright yellow and I passed something the size of a small grape (also yellow in color). I'm currently on synthroid (for hypothyroidism), effexor (for depression), and metformin & byetta (for insulin resistence). I've been on the Byetta for nearly a month, but have not suffered any side effects to date.
26471 tn?1211936521 SOCS-3 elevation causes insulin resistance in the liver. And insulin resistance causes hyperinsulinemia....and high levels of insulin make interferon ineffective Lack of SOCS3 in the liver promotes systemic insulin resistance by mimicking chronic inflammation. We knew all that.
Avatar f tn I have been taking medication over the years for bipolar disorder and I have recently been diagnosed with metabolic syndrome. I have taken thyroid tests and all of them have been normal with a heightened testosterone level. What is the link between testosterone, metabolism, and insulin? Does metrofomin have a lot to do with weight loss and metabolism and thyroid issues?
Avatar m tn This is the classic type of PCOS and by far the most common. High insulin and leptin impede ovulation and stimulate the ovaries to make testosterone. Insulin resistance is caused by sugar, smoking, trans fat, and environmental toxins. Is this you? You have been told that you are borderline diabetic, or you had an abnormal glucose tolerance test. You probably have elevated insulin, and you may also have elevated LH (luteinizing hormone).
Avatar f tn My cellular thyroid resistance symptoms have improved since reversing insulin resistance and reducing visceral fat (still have a way to go getting rid of all that stubborn internal fat!).
14386166 tn?1434268142 then i go to a Diabtec Specialist and he says as long as im on Insulin i will always pick up weight..and he put me on a course of Byetta that works with the Insulin to increase weight loss!! but is hasnt worked i am still the same weight or maybe more..now he has recomended me to go for Weight loss Surgery!! does anyone know what i should do about my Pain and Weight or any advise please that could be constructive...
Avatar m tn Excess body iron is frequently observed in patients with metabolic syndrome, and associated with more severe insulin resistance and organ damage. However, whether iron overload has a causal role in the pathophysiology of these syndromes is not well understood, and likewise the molecular mechanisms involved are still unknown. Aim of this study was to assess the effects of dietary modulation of iron status on glucose metabolism and to investigate the underlying mechanisms in mouse models.
Avatar n tn I think that with the insulin resistance that their cells are not accepting the energy effectively and it is mostly being stored as fat. On my study of Insulin Resistance, a calorie can become more than a calorie. I have been to the doctor. They tell me it is input as opposed to output. They keep turning it back on me. I don't know what else I can do. I don't know why they keep gaining. I feel that there are factors beyond my control.
Avatar m tn I want to know, when I go to the doctor and ask him to check me for diabetes risk, does he check for insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome too?
Avatar f tn Thank you for writing back to me. I am diagnosed with "insulin resistance" . I have tried Metformin, Byetta, and nothing is working. No insulin. My endocrinologist is going to put in a gluclose monitor on Tues for a week, And probably going to put me in the hospital for three days and I think it's "fasting" to see what happens and when. I am frustrated as I seem to check my blood sugar all the time. I am going to pour water out of my fingertips.
Avatar f tn I first thought I might have cyclical Cushings (see the website Cushings Moxie which is very informative) but in the end I found the cause was chronically high insulin (insulin resistance). High insulin caused a long list of symptoms including acanthosis nigricans and central obesity (my waist to hip ratio was 0.97). My moon face was due to untreated hypothyroidism.
Avatar f tn it means you having polycystic ovarian syndrome thus is diseases of hormonal inbalance meaning more on male hormone lack of ovulation and insulin resistance. lack of ovulation results irregular period.
Avatar f tn When this cannot be done with oral meds and diet (seriously look into strict low carb eating if you are not already) and exercise (exercise decreases insulin resistance), and keeping weight on target, then it is time to add insulin.
Avatar f tn I am confused as to what microvascular angina and insulin resistance have to do with each other. I am pre-diabetic, 35 lbs overweight, 50 yo female. If I can get my blood sugar down, will I see an improvement in chest pain???
Avatar f tn Metformin is a drug to treat insulin resistance which can lead to diabetes. That, along with the "enlarged ovary" makes it sound like you have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome." A strand of pearls pattern of cysts on the ovaries is one of the classic symptoms of this metabolic disorder. If you are overweight, I've read that losing some weight can normalize the menstrual cycle as well as restore insulin resistance.
