Hello,
obviously you are having a problem tolerating byetta, and given that this is now 3 months and you have lost so much weight, I would think it may be rational to ask your doctor if you can stop this medication and try something different?
Why did your dr. not decide to start you on Metformin?
Have you been monitoring your blood sugars (while on byetta)? What is your fasting and post-eating blood sugars. What was your Hba1c when you started this med?
Examples are insulin zinc suspension, protamine zinc insulin, and the insulin analogues insulin glargine and insulin detemir. The latter two insulins are now the most widely used long-acting insulins.

I used Byetta for a long time and I am not an expert or medical person. You are best to get the information from your doctor. Before I started using Byetta, I had to take classes from a nurse on how I had to inject Byetta into my stomach. It was prescribed by my Doctor. Byetta has side effects reported by some people but I had no problems with it other than the expense. It does give you a feeling of fullness and it has a nickname (Spit).
I have been sick with a cold/flu for three weeks. Two days ago, I developed diarrhea. It seemed to occur immediately after eating. Today, the diarrhea was bright yellow and I passed something the size of a small grape (also yellow in color). I'm currently on synthroid (for hypothyroidism), effexor (for depression), and metformin & byetta (for insulin resistence). I've been on the Byetta for nearly a month, but have not suffered any side effects to date.
can anyone tell me how much time does it take for metformin to effect the insulin level . and i dont see major sideeffect caused by metformin . what do u guys think . i was overweight , now i reduced my weight to the normal range with dieting and exercise still my insulin is high . every help will be hugely appreciated i am currently writing this with huge brainfogg and sleepiness .
I would really like some help with this. Byetta has been wonderful so far, and I've lost 30 lbs, yay! But now I've developed insomnia - terrible, only 3 hours of sleep a night insomnia, which has never bothered me before. If I skip my second Byetta shot for the day, I can usually get a full night's sleep. So that's certainly a clue that I may not be able to take the full two doses of Byetta a day.
Making things interesting, I am also a diabetic, recently put on insulin. Prior to that, I had tried Byetta for the diabetes, which created a lot of nausea, with occasional dry heaves. It has been a year since then, but I am still experiencing nausea on a daily basis most of the time. It is quick--comes on fast, and passes quickly. It often happens in the morning and food helps a bit. Any time I am hungry, I am vulnerable. But, it can happen almost any time.

I'm 34 years old and am about to begin my first cycle with the ovulation drug clomid. I'm a type 2 diabetic, have PCOS, and I have PSVT. I take Byetta, metformin, and metoprolol. I have been working with my Dr. for about 18 months to loose weight (I've lost over 60 lbs), get my blood sugar under control (my last 2 AICs were normal), and get medically ready to have a child. Last week he told us he feels comfortable with my heath for my husband and I to try to get pregnant.
Perhaps ypou need to talk to your doctor about lowering your insulin dose when taking the Byetta since this drug will increase the effectiveness of yor insulin. Many people find they can significantly reduce the amount of insulin they are taking when taking Byetta. Of, course, I would consult with your doctor before making any changes.
As far as 70 being a normal blood sugar, I think for most of us with diabetes, 70 feels pretty bad.
I see that this is under juvenile diabetes, which I know even less about. But, Byetta is remarkable for a lot of folks, and there are two newer, similar, products available also.
I had to change to Byetta in about 2 weeks (finished Victoza sample and insurance would only pay for Byetta). I developed nausea at the smaller dose of Victoza, and never used the larger dose. The nausea was unchanged with the change of meds.....and I have lost a LOT of weight (29 pounds). But the nausea started within a day or two of starting it. At least for me.
When I started on insulin, my doctor gave me a starting ratio of 1 unit of insulin for 15 g of carbs and I then adjusted from there. Adjustment was then done in combination with close monitoring of blood sugars. Ie. I test blood sugar before eating, lets say it is 100. I then eat 45 g of carbs and inject 3 units of insulin before the meal. Test 2 hours after starting to eat and my blood sugar is 140 (my target is < 120 after eating). This tells me that the insulin was not enough.
My husband is a newly diagnosed diabetic and has it under control with Byetta and diet. I have 4 other children ages 5 to 12 that are very thin. For the last 3 years, we have done the following to try and help their weight. Going to the gym before school 3-5 times a week - inlcuding a regular "boot camp class" and running at least a mile every time we go. Enrolling in sports. Snow skiing almost every Saturday and Holiday for the last 3 years.

for a while I was off the metformin theory due to the newer drugs such as Byetta and Victoza being more "liver friendly". However, sice succoumbing to a throat tumor (victoza in particular known for thyroid issues) which will removed Monday, I'm off the liver spit drugs and back on the metformin band wagon.
Type 2 is most often associated with adult-onset and can be a combination of insulin resistance (most often in overweight folks) and also sluggish/impaired insulin production. Type 2s are sometimes treated with insulin, sometimes with oral meds, sometimes both, and always in combination with diet & exercise.

I am diagnosed with "insulin resistance" . I have tried Metformin, Byetta, and nothing is working. No insulin. My endocrinologist is going to put in a gluclose monitor on Tues for a week, And probably going to put me in the hospital for three days and I think it's "fasting" to see what happens and when. I am frustrated as I seem to check my blood sugar all the time. I am going to pour water out of my fingertips.

I am the parent of an 18 year old who was diagnosed at the age of 21 months and we've done shots (N&R, Lantus&Humalog), inhaled insulin (did a 2 year study), and currently she's on an insulin pump (& loving it!).
My daughter's endo had her on a sliding scale dosage, dependent on her bg reading.
l have a spiking bsl to 17 (waking bsl 7) after breaky which is plain oatmeal tea with skim milk, thereafter it settles down to 9.5 and 8"s throughtout the day. l am on byetta 5up twice daily plus metfromin and glazide 60mg. any one else have this issue?
