The diet you're on is a common one for patients with metabolic syndrome. The hope is that you'll lower the risk for developing diabetes.
I have been taking medication over the years for bipolar disorder and I have recently been diagnosed with metabolic syndrome. I have taken thyroid tests and all of them have been normal with a heightened testosterone level. What is the link between testosterone, metabolism, and insulin? Does metrofomin have a lot to do with weight loss and metabolism and thyroid issues?
I used Byetta for a long time and I am not an expert or medical person. You are best to get the information from your doctor. Before I started using Byetta, I had to take classes from a nurse on how I had to inject Byetta into my stomach. It was prescribed by my Doctor. Byetta has side effects reported by some people but I had no problems with it other than the expense. It does give you a feeling of fullness and it has a nickname (Spit).
ve developed insomnia - terrible, only 3 hours of sleep a night insomnia, which has never bothered me before. If I skip my second Byetta shot for the day, I can usually get a full night's sleep. So that's certainly a clue that I may not be able to take the full two doses of Byetta a day. But I really like Byetta, love the help it gives me with my sugar levels, and don't want to give it up. Any suggestions?
Not a pill, but you may want to discuss Byetta with your MD. It is an injection with the tiniest needle you will ever see, taken 30-60 min prior to breakfast and dinner. It helps with blood sugar and takes away your appetite by making you feel full. There are also two newer products. Good luck.

I had to change to Byetta in about 2 weeks (finished Victoza sample and insurance would only pay for Byetta). I developed nausea at the smaller dose of Victoza, and never used the larger dose. The nausea was unchanged with the change of meds.....and I have lost a LOT of weight (29 pounds). But the nausea started within a day or two of starting it. At least for me.
s ranging at the highest of 92,000. He has had compartment syndrome twice both with the Rhabdo. He has slowly gotten weaker. He has had a muscle biopsy that was negative. He has had dna testing for most known genetic diseases. He does have sickle cell trait, not the disease. Carnetine def is negative. He does show elevated lactic acid levels and amonia levels in the blood while doing an exercise resp test.

I'm 34 years old and am about to begin my first cycle with the ovulation drug clomid. I'm a type 2 diabetic, have PCOS, and I have PSVT. I take Byetta, metformin, and metoprolol. I have been working with my Dr. for about 18 months to loose weight (I've lost over 60 lbs), get my blood sugar under control (my last 2 AICs were normal), and get medically ready to have a child. Last week he told us he feels comfortable with my heath for my husband and I to try to get pregnant.
I have been sick with a cold/flu for three weeks. Two days ago, I developed diarrhea. It seemed to occur immediately after eating. Today, the diarrhea was bright yellow and I passed something the size of a small grape (also yellow in color). I'm currently on synthroid (for hypothyroidism), effexor (for depression), and metformin & byetta (for insulin resistence). I've been on the Byetta for nearly a month, but have not suffered any side effects to date.
My fasting glucose level has increased in the last month. I've been taking my meds as directed and my diet has remained the same. I've been injecting Byetta for nearly two years (twice a day). My husband saw that there is a class action suit against the manufacturer because of side effects, damage to the pancreas. I did some reserch on line and found there are all kinds of side effects, damage to the kidneys, liver and G.I. issues.
I was diagnosed with type II diabetes 3 months ago. I was started on byetta at the routine initial dose which was increased 2 months ago. I am only taking byetta, and no oral hypoglycemics (metformin, etc.)I have lost 29 lbs in that length of time, primarily due to decreased appetite, nausea, and vomiting. I understand that this is in all likelyhood due to delayed gastric emptying. My question: Is this ever going to get better???
Losing weight is essential most of the time and doctors supervision is important for that. Metabolic syndrome is normally a result of being overweight and inactive. Thank you for your reply, I'm aware of Symlin and Byetta, but neither My Dr. and what information I can gather on the web works as well as Victoza. I understand Byetta is coming out with a medication that lasts much longer but it uses a larger needle and is truly an injection. Don't understand why these drug companies in the US price their product out of reach of most....

you know copy, I think we need a disclaimer in here for the metformin only for certain patients. The more I read about the drug the more concerned I got for myself as a patient.
The reason was that at stage 4, and with allergy to lactose, the chances for lactid acidosis do go up.
In general, I think most patients would benefit from adding the metformin during tx.
But high triglycerides can raise your risk of heart disease and may be a sign of metabolic syndrome. For some insight on metabolic syndrome it is the involves and includes high blood pressure, high blood sugar, too much fat around the waist, low HDL ("good") cholesterol, and high triglycerides. Metabolic syndrome increases your risk for heart disease, diabetes, and stroke.
