Byetta and insulin together

Common Questions and Answers about Byetta and insulin together

byetta

Avatar f tn Examples are insulin zinc suspension, protamine zinc insulin, and the insulin analogues insulin glargine and insulin detemir. The latter two insulins are now the most widely used long-acting insulins. * Biphasic insulins: mixtures of short-acting and intermediate-acting insulins in different proportions, such as 30/70, 50/50. Examples are NovoMix 30, Humulin M3, Insuman comb and Humalog Mix25.
Avatar m tn Hello, obviously you are having a problem tolerating byetta, and given that this is now 3 months and you have lost so much weight, I would think it may be rational to ask your doctor if you can stop this medication and try something different? Why did your dr. not decide to start you on Metformin? Have you been monitoring your blood sugars (while on byetta)? What is your fasting and post-eating blood sugars. What was your Hba1c when you started this med?
Avatar f tn I have been sick with a cold/flu for three weeks. Two days ago, I developed diarrhea. It seemed to occur immediately after eating. Today, the diarrhea was bright yellow and I passed something the size of a small grape (also yellow in color). I'm currently on synthroid (for hypothyroidism), effexor (for depression), and metformin & byetta (for insulin resistence). I've been on the Byetta for nearly a month, but have not suffered any side effects to date.
Avatar n tn I used Byetta for a long time and I am not an expert or medical person. You are best to get the information from your doctor. Before I started using Byetta, I had to take classes from a nurse on how I had to inject Byetta into my stomach. It was prescribed by my Doctor. Byetta has side effects reported by some people but I had no problems with it other than the expense. It does give you a feeling of fullness and it has a nickname (Spit).
489891 tn?1209058786 My question is y are you taking byetta and actos+met... and I'm on topamx, but for seizures... I'm also on actos plusmet 15/500 just once a day, with a insulin pump ( i take apidra in my pump)... byetta and actos plus met are very similar drugs doing the same thing.. the actos+met will make you gain weight very quickly. Avatar n tn My TSH was at 1.4 in feb. and something else was 0.434 . I am type 2 and on 35 units of Lantus and sliding scale of novolog.
14386166 tn?1434268142 then i go to a Diabtec Specialist and he says as long as im on Insulin i will always pick up weight..and he put me on a course of Byetta that works with the Insulin to increase weight loss!! but is hasnt worked i am still the same weight or maybe more..now he has recomended me to go for Weight loss Surgery!! does anyone know what i should do about my Pain and Weight or any advise please that could be constructive...
Avatar m tn You may wish to discuss premixed insulin, which is a combination of specific proportions of intermediate/long-acting and short acting insulin in one bottle or insulin pen. Btw, Lantus [not to be confused with Apridra] is a long acting insulin not short [fast].
Avatar m tn can anyone tell me how much time does it take for metformin to effect the insulin level . and i dont see major sideeffect caused by metformin . what do u guys think . i was overweight , now i reduced my weight to the normal range with dieting and exercise still my insulin is high . every help will be hugely appreciated i am currently writing this with huge brainfogg and sleepiness .
Avatar m tn I would really like some help with this. Byetta has been wonderful so far, and I've lost 30 lbs, yay! But now I've developed insomnia - terrible, only 3 hours of sleep a night insomnia, which has never bothered me before. If I skip my second Byetta shot for the day, I can usually get a full night's sleep. So that's certainly a clue that I may not be able to take the full two doses of Byetta a day.
Avatar m tn Making things interesting, I am also a diabetic, recently put on insulin. Prior to that, I had tried Byetta for the diabetes, which created a lot of nausea, with occasional dry heaves. It has been a year since then, but I am still experiencing nausea on a daily basis most of the time. It is quick--comes on fast, and passes quickly. It often happens in the morning and food helps a bit. Any time I am hungry, I am vulnerable. But, it can happen almost any time.
Avatar n tn Hello =) I'm 34 years old and am about to begin my first cycle with the ovulation drug clomid. I'm a type 2 diabetic, have PCOS, and I have PSVT. I take Byetta, metformin, and metoprolol. I have been working with my Dr. for about 18 months to loose weight (I've lost over 60 lbs), get my blood sugar under control (my last 2 AICs were normal), and get medically ready to have a child. Last week he told us he feels comfortable with my heath for my husband and I to try to get pregnant.
502219 tn?1311357910 In March while following up on a case of Ludwigs Angina my enhanced CT scan showed.small non pathologically enlarged lymph nodes bilaterally with some inhomogeneity within the thyroid. I hadn't really worried about it until today when I saw a commercial for a law firm warning that the diabetic drug "Byetta" could cause thyroid cancer. I used this med for over a year in 2006 and was taken off because of other complications. Now I'm scared. Should I be?
Avatar n tn Perhaps ypou need to talk to your doctor about lowering your insulin dose when taking the Byetta since this drug will increase the effectiveness of yor insulin. Many people find they can significantly reduce the amount of insulin they are taking when taking Byetta. Of, course, I would consult with your doctor before making any changes. As far as 70 being a normal blood sugar, I think for most of us with diabetes, 70 feels pretty bad.
Avatar f tn I see that this is under juvenile diabetes, which I know even less about. But, Byetta is remarkable for a lot of folks, and there are two newer, similar, products available also.
178107 tn?1315947630 Has anyone used Byetta? I started taking it four weeks ago and it has done wonders on controling my blood sugars and I have also lost 16 pounds. My doctor told me that it may help me to drop a few pounds, but I never thought it could help that much. I admit it does make you nausious, but I can take that for the weight loss.
Avatar n tn I had to change to Byetta in about 2 weeks (finished Victoza sample and insurance would only pay for Byetta). I developed nausea at the smaller dose of Victoza, and never used the larger dose. The nausea was unchanged with the change of meds.....and I have lost a LOT of weight (29 pounds). But the nausea started within a day or two of starting it. At least for me.
1273125 tn?1365077526 to use insulin you have to count carbs and inject for the carbs eatin take to much insulin and you go low, not enough insulin you go high. insulin done wrong can do more damage I think insulin done rite more work than eating rite.
Avatar m tn I was on Byetta for 1 and a half and kept weight down and was put on oral meds and my levels was still in 400s thats when I start Lantus. I can't deal with the weight diet exercise does not help. What should I do.
Avatar n tn My husband is a newly diagnosed diabetic and has it under control with Byetta and diet. I have 4 other children ages 5 to 12 that are very thin. For the last 3 years, we have done the following to try and help their weight. Going to the gym before school 3-5 times a week - inlcuding a regular "boot camp class" and running at least a mile every time we go. Enrolling in sports. Snow skiing almost every Saturday and Holiday for the last 3 years.
Avatar m tn good article Copy, sorry I missed it earlier. for a while I was off the metformin theory due to the newer drugs such as Byetta and Victoza being more "liver friendly". However, sice succoumbing to a throat tumor (victoza in particular known for thyroid issues) which will removed Monday, I'm off the liver spit drugs and back on the metformin band wagon.
Avatar f tn Thank you for writing back to me. I am diagnosed with "insulin resistance" . I have tried Metformin, Byetta, and nothing is working. No insulin. My endocrinologist is going to put in a gluclose monitor on Tues for a week, And probably going to put me in the hospital for three days and I think it's "fasting" to see what happens and when. I am frustrated as I seem to check my blood sugar all the time. I am going to pour water out of my fingertips.
Avatar n tn l have a spiking bsl to 17 (waking bsl 7) after breaky which is plain oatmeal tea with skim milk, thereafter it settles down to 9.5 and 8"s throughtout the day. l am on byetta 5up twice daily plus metfromin and glazide 60mg. any one else have this issue?
Avatar m tn t seem to be experiencing the usual side effects (nausea, headache) others do or that I did when I was on Byetta (I was told Victoza is very similar to Byetta) a few years ago. However ... and this happened to me on a prior med (I forget which one) about 6 months ago, but I started feeling pretty severe anxiety: my face is flushed, my heart is racing, I have a knot in my stomach, and I started getting paranoid (like thinking a friend was going to betray me) for no reason whatsoever.
Avatar m tn My suggestion is to see an endo and get put on a regimen of basal and bolus (long acting and short acting) insulin and learn how to match your carbs to your insulin dose. You don't want to continue to have highs like that on a regular basis.
Avatar n tn Also if I do not get up and eat with in 5-10minutes in the morning I get very tired. One last thing is that I usually get no warning sign of being hungry. I feel full and fine and the next minute I feel like if I do not eat I am going to pass out. I get real shaky and hot and it gets hard for me to see straight. Any comments would help.
