Can spiriva be used for asthma

Common Questions and Answers about Can spiriva be used for asthma

spiriva

Avatar f tn Spiriva is an anticholenergic used to treat various forms of COPD, but rarely asthma. The primary function of these medications is to reduce mucous in the respiratory system. They do have a mild broncho-dilating affect. I have not used Spiriva so I am unsure of its dosage, but I have taken ipratropium which is in the same class. As a neb solution it lasts 6 hours and as an MDI it last 4 hours. Check your prescription for dosing on this medication.
1580703 tn?1651904887 There are more than a few lung diseases that can mimic asthma. This may require your getting a 2nd opinion from a lung specialist. This would be an additional expense but, in the long run, could save you a lot of money and misery.
Avatar m tn I use Albuterol, SPIRIVA and ADVAIR to control Asthma & COPD. I also take CRESTOR for cholesterol and ADVIL for arthritis. In the last month (after starting SPIRIVA), when I first wake up in the morning, my eyes "roll" from right to left in an arcing motion when I attempt to focus on something. After a few attempts to focus on an object (the clock on the clock radio), the movement stops and I'm fine. Any thoughts?
Avatar m tn Rotacaps is another such method. You can discuss this with the asthma specialist. The medicines used can be asthalin, trebutaline, steroids, ipratropium bromide, and chromolyn sodium amongst a few options available. You will have to keep the house, bed linen etc dust free. Check for molds at home—under sink, bathroom, toilets, drains, damp wall, under carpets etc. Mold spores can make asthma worse. Special masks are available in the market to take care of dust and pollens.

Avatar n tn I have wet macular degeneration as well as COPD and my ophthamalogist theorizes that the weird "blisters" that are appearing at the site of the oozing veins may be caused by the steroid content of my asthma medication ( namely Spiriva). So he has asked me to change to something that doesn't contain any steroids. My pulmonologist has suggested I add floridil to my albuterol nebulizer.
Avatar f tn after checking, this bladder problem is a side effect of Spiriva...I had used Spiriva for over a year and the infections/non-infections got more frequent until I had to go to the urologist...I was on Azo Standard most of the time. I alerted my pulmonologist as to my problem and he took me off the Spiriva. Since being off the Spiriva, my breathing has gotten worse....my Dr said there was no replacement for Spiriva...I'm writing to find out what others might know.
Avatar m tn Thanks for the input. My MD put me on Spiriva, and during the summer I experienced what felt like about 2/3 lung capacity. Symptoms improved when I went to the coast to get some "clean" air. When I got back to the valley I had a lung function test conducted, and the MD said Spiriva was not medically indicated. So now I'm not sure if I actually have COPD or not. Will take your advice and get a second opinion.
Avatar n tn I have heard "not" I was diagnosed with acid reflux and yet I also have asthma, so they put me on spiriva and activar (something like that) and it didn't bother my so called acid reflux. It's just suppose to help with breathing. It can however bring on thrush, so be sure to wash the inhaler each time after use.
Avatar f tn I agree. They still work for me but a part of me still misses my old white buddy, rather than this new blue imposter!
Avatar f tn here in the uk many people get symbicort for asthma , I have been on it for around a year , and I was only diagnosed with copd a cuople of weeks ago . I found it helped me enormously, it is probably an issue of cost why they dont give it to you , as each inhaler costs around £70...
Avatar m tn Two weeks later I started to feel bloated again, then last night the breathing issue began, used bronchodilator, which eased the problem, thought I would be in emergency room again, but used the dilator about every 1 1/2 hr. which slowed things down. Now it is superbowl sunday. I aslo use Spiriva. Question is: can the bloating casue the breathing problem with those who suffer COPD? second question: am I doing harm using dilator more often than prescribed till I get into Dr. hopefully, Monday?
Avatar n tn is it safe to use spiriva and advair together my sister has had laryngitis for 4 weeks
Avatar f tn It is used primarily for the prevention of motion sickness. It can cause dryness of saliva and mucus and might help reduce the amount of mucous. You state that your asthma is, "...always out of control because of all this mucus". That could be true, especially if the mucus originates in the upper airways, rather than your lungs. However asthma is not infrequently characterized by excessive mucus and the mucus could be caused by your asthma.
Avatar f tn The one good news is that steroid inhalers work very well for asthma and do relieve the chest tightness, shortness of breath and any other symptoms you may have. You said that you were a smoker? Did you doctor check to make sure you don't have chronic bronchitis? Do you have a cough, and produce mucous? This is very important thing to treat early. But even with asthma, it is important to get it under control as it can effect your quality of life and lead to possible airway damage.
Avatar f tn IF YOU ARE ON OXYGEN USE IT WHEN YOU FEEL THIS WAY IT CAN BE YOU O2 LEVEL. I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AND I AM 59 YEARS OLD AND I HAVE WORKED IN THE MED FIELD FOR 20 YEARS. LISTEN TO YOUR BODY. I SOMETIMES USE A COMPUTER CHAIR WITH WHEELS, I HAVE CEMENT FLOORS. I AM ALSO ON THE SAME MEDS AS YOU. EAT RIGHT. LOTS OF FRUITS (BERRIES AND VEGGIES) THIS HAS WORKED FOR ME ALONG WITH GREEN TEA. GOD BLESS AND I HOPE YOU WILL FEEL BETTER.
Avatar n tn i have copd and found spiriva wasnt working for me, after several attempts at trying different things i was put on seretide 4 times a day along with ventolin and spiriva and this settled things down nicely. Go back to doctors and have a word with him/her and advise the spiriva is not working, they will try something else for him, good luck.
Avatar n tn I assume yu have been diagnosed, being that you are on the meds? What was your diagnosis. Lots of things can cause the wheezing. From asthma, bronkitis and emphysema.
Avatar f tn You may need a stronger medication, so you should talk to your doctor. There are some asthma drugs that you can use during pregnancy but it is still better to use one that hasn't be tested then not be able to breathe. You could also ask about an antihistamine or other allergy meds that you could take.
1580703 tn?1651904887 Secondly, I have sleep apnea and tongue swelling which can be caused by dehydration and has been helped by drinking appropriate amounts of water for my weight. You hadn't said whether you are being treated for sleep apnea but if you have sleep apnea, which can be life-threatening and has many side-effects including heart disease, you should look into a sleep test. Also diamox is a diuretic so you may be becoming dehydrated if you are not consuming enough water.
312330 tn?1245176752 Are any of you taking theophylline for your asthma? If so, have you had a lot of side effects from it? My doc is considering trying this, just looking for people's experience.
