Common Questions and Answers about Can i cut lipitor in half

lipitor

Avatar m tn Finally, the PF people at Pfizer told me that while the firm recommends that the Lipitor pills NOT be broken in half or cut in half, they do say that it is perfectly okay to do this under doctor's prescription or recommendation, and that there is no negative downside at all to cutting Lippy in half. However, they do recommend not breaking them if no need to. So there. Case solved. Happy camper I am.
Avatar f tn I take iron and eat as well as I can but really have no appetite. Down 20 pounds in 10 weeks. I was over weight so this isn't a big problem yet.
351317 tn?1204751871 The 10mg zyrtec is too strong for me so can I cut it in half and take 5mg instead?
Avatar m tn Each new statin he tried gave me anxiety. Finally we tried Lipitor and I had no problems. I have been on 10 mg of Lipitor now for nearly 7 years with no problems. My insurance will no longer cover Lipitor. My doctor prescribed Pravacol and after 3 doses, I had an anxiety attack. It subsided when I stopped the medicine. A week later he gave me some samples of Crestor.
Avatar n tn Can thsi small amt of lipitor cause such a side effect? I thought the culprit was the nuts I eat as a snack so i cut them out for a week unitl yesterday when I ate a few raw almonds and 2 or 3 homemade almond biscottis (made w/fresh raw almonds and almond extract). Do you know of any correlation? The conditon takes abvout 24 hrs. to pass. There is no pain, just aggravation.
Avatar n tn I was percribed Lipitor, 40mg. I have been breaking them in half and now see you should not do that. I can not swollow pills and dissolve most in my mouth with water. Why can't I do that with the lipitor? I have been trying to swollow them but by the time I get them down they are pretty much dissoved. I can't find an answer on line.
Avatar n tn I am always interested in your comments. I have been on 1mg of Klonopin 1 time a day for 2 years. About a month ago I cut back to .5mg 1 time a day. I would like to get off. Is this going to be difficult?....Any suggestions. Now that I am on Prozac, I may not need them anymore.
Avatar n tn Abby, call your doc and make an appointment to follow-up on the problem. Lipitor can cause diarrhea in individuals. Your doctor should be able to give you a hand in figuring out if this is a side-effect of the medication and whether you need to switch to another medication that hopefully will not cause diarrhea.
Avatar m tn I know that Lipotor can artiificially lower TSH and cause a false positive for hyperthyroidism.
Avatar f tn I've had some suggestions to cut the pills in half, but I have capsules, not tablets and they cannot be cut in half. What should I do??
Avatar m tn Reason I ask is that I have been taking Lipitor since November H.A. and Stent, 10 mgs at first and now 5 mg at night, just before bed time, and since i started taking them, on the 10 mg dosage i had deep lovely surrealistic dreams about all kinds of things, like a movie in my brain every night, fell joyful and happy upon waking, and now with the 5 mg dosage, breaking pills in half as per doctor's orders, I still have very vivid dreaming all night long. I love it.
Avatar f tn Yes, my pill can be split in half. I don't have a pill spliter, so I am wondering if I can use a knife to cut it. I already cut it actually and it split right in half. My pill has a "divit" like a divider already so it cut very easily.
Avatar f tn thanks for the reply... I know that Lipitor IS NOT safe but I have tried everything natural and still have a total cholesterol of 286. I am taking the chromium to bring down my blood sugar it is slightly elavated average about 125 I know that is not to high but my doctor doesnt like it ...As for the cholesterol.. Avatar n tn A solide nodule was discovered a year and half ago, and in connection therewith I also became diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease. At that time I hade started taking Lipitor, 10 mg, for high cholesterol. My endoctrinologist, an expert on thyroids, decided against thyroid hormone replacement therapy. I am supposed to see him once a year, but I see a surgeon twice a year to check on the nodule.
Tbd I use Lipitor. My doctor suggested I take CoQ10 along with it to cut down on the joint pain. Diet and exercise are the best remedies for high cholesterol.
1059594 tn?1261323966 Isn't Opana Time Released? I know you're the doctor, but I don't think you should inform people to cut their medications in half, ESPECIALLY if they're time released as this could cause a rapid release of all the medication in turn making her more sick, or am I wrong? This discussion is related to New Medication - Side Effects.
Avatar n tn I wanted to know if I can cut the pills in half. Would taking 250mg. be as effective? All the symptoms of my uti are gone. I was supposed to take the pills for 7 days and I stopped after 4 because of side effects.
Avatar f tn Yes its ok to cut it in half. It should have a little place on the pill where to cut it. If you want to be absolutely sure you can always ask your pharmacist.
620048 tn?1358018235 There is a retired doctor posting on the Internet who has thousands of cases of ALS on file that were linked to Lipitor use. I will see if I can find his website. If I find it, I'll post the link here.
Avatar n tn Now it varies from 139/86 to 120/85 to errors (when I get nervous the machine in the gym gives odd results). My weight down 5-8 pounds SINCE August (when blood test was done). Another was done yesterday. So, specifically given my Triglyceride, HDL and LDL levels, intake of 4 grams fish oil, lipitor 5mg, aspirin, (1) Is there any reason why one would go to crestor vs. current lipitor. Don't understand why Drs. push it (I think crestor is very aggreesive in marketing).
Avatar f tn Metoprolol 25 mg. Does it make a difference in what I'm taking, wether I can cut in half or not? The PA knows what I am taking and he told me just to cut it.
Avatar n tn I think they are in the same drug class, I've taken both with the similar results. As I recall, I was changed from lipitor to simvastatin because simvastatin isn't as strong a statin because of some very strong congestive heart meds that impact the liver and kidneys. Factors that can change liver functions include weight gain, alcohol consumption, exercise levels and diet, so it takes a health professional, which I'm not, to ferret out cause for blood test changes.
Avatar m tn I also have 20-30% blockage in other artery which doctor stated with strong lipitor and diet change it should help this. I am on Lipitor 80 mg. also effient, aspirin, and coreg, which was just changed from atenolol which I had been so tired and drained my doctor switched it. I also take lisinopril, and pepcid and iron because being on blood thinners at my age it caused other issues. I have had several issues with vasalvega sincope since my heart attack I just pass out..
