Avatar m tn Finally, the PF people at Pfizer told me that while the firm recommends that the Lipitor pills NOT be broken in half or cut in half, they do say that it is perfectly okay to do this under doctor's prescription or recommendation, and that there is no negative downside at all to cutting Lippy in half. However, they do recommend not breaking them if no need to. So there. Case solved. Happy camper I am.

Avatar n tn I've been on 10mg lipitor for about 2 months. In the pst 4 weeks, I have experienced an almost once-a-week swelling in my lips and face...first time lower left, 2nd time, entire upper, 3rd time lower right, 4th time, entire right side of my face and finally, yesterday, entire left side of my face from upper lip to just below the eye. Cardiologist told me to get off drug for 6 weeks to see if anything else is causing swelling.
Avatar n tn Abby, call your doc and make an appointment to follow-up on the problem. Lipitor can cause diarrhea in individuals. Your doctor should be able to give you a hand in figuring out if this is a side-effect of the medication and whether you need to switch to another medication that hopefully will not cause diarrhea.
Avatar n tn I was percribed Lipitor, 40mg. I have been breaking them in half and now see you should not do that. I can not swollow pills and dissolve most in my mouth with water. Why can't I do that with the lipitor? I have been trying to swollow them but by the time I get them down they are pretty much dissoved. I can't find an answer on line.
Avatar f tn There is much controversy about cholesterol, but it is muted because of pharmaceutical financial interests in statins. Half of those who die of strokes or heart attacks have no history of high cholesterol. DeBakey discounted cholesterol. My own doctor pays no attention to it. What is the true role of cholesterol and how should one proceed? I don't know, but I won't take Lipitor.
Avatar m tn Be glad he cut your dose. Lipitor has lcauses of problems in addiction to affecting your thyroid.
Avatar m tn This reporter, not so much for a news story as for his health, has been taking Lipitor in half doses for a year now, following a heart attack and a stent implant. He takes a five milligramme tab of Lipitor each night “around midnight”, and without fail the most pleasant and amazingly vivid dreams follow throughout the night, sometimes as many as three or four, with the last one around 6AM before waking.
1059594 tn?1261323966 Isn't Opana Time Released? I know you're the doctor, but I don't think you should inform people to cut their medications in half, ESPECIALLY if they're time released as this could cause a rapid release of all the medication in turn making her more sick, or am I wrong? Avatar n tn A solide nodule was discovered a year and half ago, and in connection therewith I also became diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease. At that time I hade started taking Lipitor, 10 mg, for high cholesterol. My endoctrinologist, an expert on thyroids, decided against thyroid hormone replacement therapy. I am supposed to see him once a year, but I see a surgeon twice a year to check on the nodule.
Avatar f tn Yes, my pill can be split in half. I don't have a pill spliter, so I am wondering if I can use a knife to cut it. I already cut it actually and it split right in half. My pill has a "divit" like a divider already so it cut very easily.
Avatar m tn My wife has had two episodes of severe sunburn with peeling lasting longer than the usual sunburn. She used to be able to stay in the sun all she wanted. She takes Simvastation( Lipitor) and Alprazolam (Xanex). It looks like photosensitivity has been reported with both. Any thought as to which is the most likely?
Tbd I use Lipitor. My doctor suggested I take CoQ10 along with it to cut down on the joint pain. Diet and exercise are the best remedies for high cholesterol.
Avatar n tn 1) In studies comparing equal doses of Crestor to Lipitor, Crestor has been shown to lower LDL levels ~10% and increase HDL levels 2-4% more than Lipitor. Your triglyerides, total cholesterol, and LDL's are in the optimal range, and your HDL level is in the middle. Based on these numbers, there doesn't seem to be a need to switch to Crestor. 2) There is little evidence on the use of EPA alone.
Avatar n tn I wanted to know if I can cut the pills in half. Would taking 250mg. be as effective? All the symptoms of my uti are gone. I was supposed to take the pills for 7 days and I stopped after 4 because of side effects.
Avatar n tn was on lipitor for 5 months and switched two weeks ago to simvastatin in hopes of less side effects. just got some blood work done and the liver enzymes are elevated about one and a half times normal. does anyone know if its normal to see a spike in liver enzymes after switching statins or does this mean my body is rejecting the new statin?
Avatar f tn Metoprolol 25 mg. Does it make a difference in what I'm taking, wether I can cut in half or not? The PA knows what I am taking and he told me just to cut it.
Avatar m tn Coreg is a very potent beta blocker. You didn't post the dosage, but when my dose was increased to 50mg daily I reacted as you seem to be feeling, and it was dropped to 25 mg daily. It still worked, my ldl's dropped, my hdl's increased, and I felt better. The payoff was that my ejection fraction improved greatly, which is the goal of the drug cocktail. Lipitor shouldn't create fatigue, in my opinion and from experience.
Avatar m tn You are on a beta blocker, ace inhibitor, medicine to protect your stomach, and cholesterol medication. The Lipitor is one of the best cholesterol medication and there are Lipitor studies that show that Lipitor reduces cholesterol and cholesterol buildup already in the arteries. You can "google" it under Lipitor studies to find out the information. There are other beta blockers and ace inhibitors if the ones you are on are making you feel not so well.
Avatar m tn It seems the logical choice is to go back to the original statin you were taking, and stop taking Lipitor. The CoQ10 supplement certainly won't hurt you, there is in fact a lot of evidence that it is very difficult to be absorbed by the body.
252327 tn?1250183976 Then I was really wired. I am going to give it another try. Maybe if I cut my 100mcg in half and take a a half of cytomel it will work better.
Avatar f tn 2 and a half years ago, I started on Lipitor for my high cholesterol, I immediately got pain in my right arm. It became so bad, that I couldn't even sleep on it. I went to the doctor and told him that my Dad had the same reaction to Lipitor. So, he put me on Pravastatin instead. The pain reduced but never went away. I tried anti-inflammatory medications with no relief. I eventually saw another physician who set me up for X-Raysand blood work.
