Common Questions and Answers about Can diovan hct be cut in half

diovan

Avatar n tn ve been using anti-hypertensives for ten years now starting with Lotensen and then switching to Diovan HCT then to hydroclorothyazide for a year or two then back to Diovan HCT. I am about 20 kgs overweight. I walk every day and when in a good routine 8 kms a day, up and down hills through fields etc.
369861 tn?1306275686 I had been on HCT 25 mgand Diovan Hct 320/25 mg for about 2-3 years. My primary doctor took me off the HCT. I had an appointment with my endocrinologist prior to this. I advise the dr what took place with the ER and my primary. The endo doctor then took me off the Diovan HCT and started me on Diovan so that i could take a renin and aldesterone tests. Does the potassium have anything to do with the thyroid and why did the endo take me off all diuretics to take the two tests.
Avatar f tn All seem to be symptome of hypothyroidism, yet my endo will not even try a low dose synthroid. I am taking Diovan HCT and the few things I have read, say it can skew the results. I am at my wits end in trying to feel better. I know it is my thyroid, but cannot get doc's to listen. Any advice?
Avatar m tn I am on diovan hct for blood pressure and simvastatin for cholesterol. My vision has even changed a little bit in my right eye. What can be causing these weird spasms and are they dangerous?
Avatar f tn I have a fasting blood glucose level of 101 and 102 for several years now and have been taking diovan hct and excedrin. I know these drugs have the ability to raise blood sugar readings. Should I be concerned about these readings? If I get off these drugs will my levels return to normal?
Avatar m tn I am not overweight and would consider myself to be above average in terms of exercise weekly. I started Diovan over 10 years ago as my blood pressure was borderline high. Started on 80mg, tried 160mg, back to 80mg and currently on Diovan 160mg/12.5mg HCT as of a week ago. My BP was spiking to 150/100 so my doctor decided to try adding the water tab. Here in lies the issue.
1260320 tn?1270394906 I'm on Benicar HCT, have been for many years. Benicar is in a group of drugs called angiotensin II receptor antagonists. Benicar keeps blood vessels from narrowing, which lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow. Benicar HCT has a diuretic included as well. I have been fortunate, Benicar has worked from the first day I took it and works well still today. My 90 day average BP is 108/67 down from 135/85 when I started. I have had no side effects as well, the best of both worlds!
Avatar n tn my toes and lower legs are feeling numb. I tried metoprol and diovan hct and although by bp is in the normal range my heart rate is elevated unless I continue on the cardizem cd. Is there another medication that I can discuss with my cardiologist to replace the cardizem cd that will keep my heart rate in the normal range? I feel I've got to withdraw from the cardizem as the side effects seem to be progressing the longer I use the medication.
Avatar f tn Recently started Symbicort inhaler and systemic blood pressure went up 180/108 and was wondering if the med would be likely to raise pulmonary pressure as well. Doctor added HCT to already prescribed Diovan which seems to be working but am on low dose of Symbicort and may have to increase it.
Avatar f tn However, my bp is now up to 170-185 at night over a diastolic of anywhere from 98-120). When I get up in the morning it can be as high as 170 as well. It is so frightening. The original med (diovan) was contraindicated for renal hypertension so I was glad I stood my ground and never took it. I do feel there is a missing component to all this. About 4 weeks ago, once I heard about the hypertension issues, I was petrified, and I immediately started to clean up my diet and exercise.
Avatar m tn After a while, I started feeling dizzy or light headed and We decided to cut down diovan to 80 mg. the dizziness went away for a few monts then it came back and was getting worse. I made a big mistake of stopping the Diovan all together. I was monitoring my blood pressure and it was in the 130-140/80's and I thought I was OK without the medication.
Avatar m tn Also, you should inform your dentist about it. You need to be aggressive in preventing further cavities in your mouth. I would recommend using prescription toothpaste (or toothpaste designed for dry mouth), prescription mouth wash, a fluoride tray (for overnight fluoride use), carry a bottle of water around everywhere you go, chew sugarfree xylitol gum to stimulate your salivary glands during the day, etc. Your dentist may have other suggestions as well.
Avatar f tn 5 about one week ago and takes three bp meds; atenonol 25 mg, diovan hct 325/12.5, amlodipine besylate 5mg, also started Ranexa 5 weeks ago 500mg twice a day (for angina). His bp now is 110/60 range but with the dizziness on Monday it was 84/52. Would the nitro patch cause the diziness? He is to wear the patch for 12 hours and take it off at bedtime. He has had 3 angioplasty's with a total of 7 stents in the last 7 months and he is also diabetic with good control.
Avatar f tn Yes its ok to cut it in half. It should have a little place on the pill where to cut it. If you want to be absolutely sure you can always ask your pharmacist.
Avatar n tn At 8 weeks I went to the doctor because of what I thought might be a sinus infection - probably not an infection but he gave me a 5 day of Z Pac - but while I was there, he also discovered I had a bp of 160/120 - put me on Diovan HCT right away.
Avatar f tn Yes, my pill can be split in half. I don't have a pill spliter, so I am wondering if I can use a knife to cut it. I already cut it actually and it split right in half. My pill has a "divit" like a divider already so it cut very easily.
7510956 tn?1411671417 That is crazy!!!! Cut it in half and everybody fails treatment. Sound like more than crazy. Never heard of that before. That's just plan stupid.
Avatar f tn Hello, your Ferritin (iron stores) can be very low even when HGB, HCT, and "iron" are within the normal range. My Ferritin is very low low with HGB/HCT similar to yours and I'm on prescription strength iron. Are you having any symtpoms of low iron? I've been having extreme hair loss, which is believed to be a result of the low iron stores. Ferritin stores are the first thing to fall before you become Aemic.
Avatar m tn You should probably ask the cardiologist about having an EP Study done to rule out arrhythmia problems which can be common in LVH as well.
Avatar n tn Hello, I was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy (probable viral or idopathic) in May, with an EF of 16%. Prior to diagnosis my PMD had put me on Diovan HCT, and a medrol dose pack as he was thinking my cough/SOB was from my lungs. The week between seeing him and having the ECHO and stress and being diagnosed I began felta alot better. My cardio put me on "heart rest" and Coreg 6.25mg BID In July had another echo, my EF was 40% and my heart had grew smaller (almost normal) .
