Common Questions and Answers about Bystolic vs toprol

bystolic

280234 tn?1532986249 I was later switched to Toprol XL 25 mg to control the tachycardia better. I was on that several years. I then found out I was pregnant with my second child, and switched to Labetalol. After having the 2nd baby (which was a normal delivery) I was put on Toprol XL again by my PCP. I was eventually referred to a cardiologist by my PCP to evaluate the high BP & tachycardia as a precaution. I now have a cardiologist.
Avatar n tn If you have benign palpitations I would stay away. I was switched to bystolic, which has worked well for me where toprol and atenolol didn't.
Avatar m tn I've just been put on Bystolic after 2 lightheaded years on toprol. Doctor was very hopeful; so far it has not changed... I get very lightheaded upon exertion. When does your dizziness affect you? What else are you taking?
Avatar m tn Metoprolol caused me hair loss....Bystolic has slowed it down somewhat....
Avatar m tn I was taking it and had some respiratory problems and they put me on Bystolic ... the Pulmonary doctor told me that Toprol XL sometimes caused breathing or bronchial problems.. and the Bystolic is more respiratory friendly... they are both Beta Blockers...
Avatar m tn I am not familiar with you "brand" of BB, but I can say Toprol (Metoprolol), which is taken at a much higher does, usually 50 mg or higher, can produce the side effects you describe. Some of us adjust to them over time. I take Metoprolol at a 100 mg per day level, and may go higher. In the beginning it cause a too low BP and caused some dizziness when I stood up too quickly (or just didn't take time to stand up). These side effects have passed, my BP in now near normal.
Avatar f tn I started on Toprol in December and they got more frequent. The dosage was raised in February. They became a little less intense throughout the month and finally almost completely disappeared a few weeks ago. I knew better to celebrate and I was right. THEY'RE BACK!!! Ugh is all I can say. I had stopped the caffeine, hydrated myself and began eating bananas for the potassium.
343006 tn?1314446471 a cardio doctor recent, put me on 10mg of bystolic and 120mg verapamil daily - for 3 days I was fine-after that became sick throwing up and couldnt sleep at night. doc then said to cutt down to 5mg bystolic and 60mg verap on this doseage after 3 weeks of going threw hell. I got sort of use to it - now though doc changed me to this dose 2.5 mg bystolic & 60mg verap a.m time daily - and 2.5 mg bystolic at night time - ugg !! gets the b.p down ok .
503607 tn?1275671579 I have been on toprol two weeks, this past saturday I started getting palpitations all day, I am now on day 3 of all day palpitaions ( I am crying in fear all day, I am sure this is not helping) I was placed on the Toprol due to Atrial flutter and I did have occasional PVC's. Can Toprol cause my palpitations to get worse? My dr feels its not the Toprol. I want off this stuff. Today I felt all of a sudden that I had a pricky sensation go from my head to my toes. It was scary.
Avatar m tn s office were done by a human. During my visit with my Doctor, he changed my BP medicine from 50MG of Atenolol to 5MG of Bystolic. Since a few days after the change, I often feel very flushed in the face, forgetful, confusion, seem to lose my train of thought more frequently, change in bowel movement.......With all that said, I guess my major question is are these some of the side effects when taking Bystolic? Should I go back to my Doctor and request he put me back on Atenolol?
Avatar f tn I was taking the generic form of Toprol (?) for my high blood pressure, 25 mg and it was giving me problems after being on it for over a year. Horrible dreams, head aches/pressure, and pain in the area of my left kidney. The Dr put me on Bystolic, but it was samples and there is no information on side effects. I have started having stomach problems and acid reflux lately. Can the Bystolic be causing this? What would be other good choices?
Avatar n tn ve been off Toprol for 4 days. I was only on Toprol XL for a week anyhow. Anyone have these symptoms before? Should I worry? What would cause me to only get PVCs now when I first stand up? Has anyone heard of PVCs happening only when you first stand up? Thanks!
343006 tn?1314446471 I was slowly weened off Toprol xl and Diovan - about 8 months ago - and put on ccb -verapamil and dieretic maxzide iv been on them for about 4 months - and have been having problems, such as ankles swelling. and closeing throat when eatting! as well bloating belly conditions. over the past month iv noticed my face is always red in color. and my left eye has been twitching off and on.. I seem to dehydrate rapid and cant hydrate fast enough - even when I cutt down on the dieretic med.

Avatar f tn He also said the pulse in my right wrist was low. He changed my meds to Bystolic 10 mg (one a day) but the next day and for the next week, I was having a moderately severe pain in my spine, right behind my heart, but not radiating. So, he switched me back to the Metroprolol. Now the head pressure is back. What other drugs or type of drugs would be good to try. Should I ask to be seen by the cardiologist? We have HMO insurance so I would need a referal.
Avatar f tn I never had problems with my blood pressure being high before Bystolic...never had had problems with blood pressure going low before Toprol... Go figure!
Avatar n tn I have tried atenolol, but makes me sooooo tired, I am also tired on Bystolic not as much. Could the Bystolic be causing circulatory problems? No edema to feet or ankles but, some to medial knees. Thank you. This discussion is related to Side effects of Bystolic.

687614 tn?1244197979 If I need to get off my Bystolic and onto another Beta Blocker or Calcium Channel blocker. How does that work and don't people get rebound tachycardia or SVT's is getting back off Beta blockers really hard? I heard that is is quite dangerous. My tachycardia in not under control, nor is my BP. What else is there? Just curious... I am having way too many side effects of them. How does one wean off of 2 times a day 2.5 Bystolic? These tablets are not scored.
Avatar f tn I've been on bystolic for about a month and a half. I've had some dizziness and a little fatigue. No problems sleeping or anything like that, though. I was previously on metoprolol and had awful nightmares, way worse dizziness and light headedness, heavy leg sensations, etc. Bystolic has been way better for me. Best of luck to you!
Avatar n tn Recently, I was diagnosed with atrial fibrillation. I thought my problem was from stress, but the Dr. said it wasn't. She prescribed Bystolic 5 mg. (to slow heart down) and coumadin 5 mg. I take these 2 pills at night, because that was when I usually got these episodes of a "racing heart", which would last 3 hrs. or more. She said my condition was more like "an aging heart".....which, I am 77 yrs. old and never had a problem before.
Avatar f tn My doc LOVES Bystolic. Both are Selective Betablockers and they say Bystolic has little or no side effect. I would give it a try. I have not used either but have heard very good things about it.
Avatar n tn I have frequent PVC's (often with bigeminy) and I also have lots of reflux problems. I have been getting a lot more PVC's the past couple of weeks. I switched from Toprol XL to generic Metoprolol, and I I don't know if that has had any affect. I have also had increased reflux issues during this time. I am getting more PVC's and bigeminy than normal and am noticing it most when I lean forward, especailly while eating. Does this sound like the PVC's are coming from reflux?
Avatar m tn •Have a slow heartbeat or your heart skips beats (irregular heartbeat) I'm guessing that my doctor thinks my heart palpitations are not considered an irregular heartbeat? I'll ask him but I found this a little scary.
Avatar n tn I do not feel as bad on Bystolic as metoprolo, I seem to have more dizzyness on Bystolic. I do get some chest discomfort while on Bystolic that the metoprolo kept at bay.
