Common Questions and Answers about Bystolic vs lopressor

bystolic

Avatar m tn •Have a slow heartbeat or your heart skips beats (irregular heartbeat) I'm guessing that my doctor thinks my heart palpitations are not considered an irregular heartbeat? I'll ask him but I found this a little scary.
Avatar m tn s office were done by a human. During my visit with my Doctor, he changed my BP medicine from 50MG of Atenolol to 5MG of Bystolic. Since a few days after the change, I often feel very flushed in the face, forgetful, confusion, seem to lose my train of thought more frequently, change in bowel movement.......With all that said, I guess my major question is are these some of the side effects when taking Bystolic? Should I go back to my Doctor and request he put me back on Atenolol?
Avatar f tn Beta blockers decrease the force of the contractions of your heart, hence lowering resistance to blood flow. The beta blocker I take is relatively new and it actually dilates your blood vessels, think it's the only beta blocker though that does that. But because of the way they work, they decrease angina pain, make your heart not work as hard and at least decrease the sensation of PVCs and PACs.
Avatar n tn I HAD BEEN ON LOPRESSOR FOR SEVERAL YEARS FOR THE ARRYTHMIAS , BUT THE DOCS TOOK ME OFF IT ABOUT A MONTH AGO AND STARTED ME ON CARDIZEM. THAT MADE ME FEEL EVEN MORE AWFUL SO THEY STOPPED IT AFTER 2 DAYS AND TOLD ME TO STAY OFF THE LOPRESSOR AS WELL. NOW I AM WAITING FOR THE FOLLOW UP APPT WITH THE CARDIOLOGIST, BUT FEEL PRETTY AWFUL MUCH OF THE TIME, LIGHTHEADED AND EXHAUSTED.
899454 tn?1295583938 I took from may 2009 till august 2009 Bystolic (Nebivolol) 2.5 mg. After coping with all the side effects I was feeling allright. In september 2009 I switched to another beta blocker Bisoprolol (Concor) 2.5 mg. After taking it for two weeks I started experiencing a tingling sensation in my fingers, chest pressure and muscles pain. In the third week, one day after having lunch I went back to work.

Avatar m tn If it were me -- and I'm just talking as a patient, not as an expert -- I would want to get off the Lopressor. Lopressor depresses heart rate, and it's obviously not controlling your blood pressure, so I personally would not see any reason for taking it. I was on Lopressor for blood pressure control for several years and was in the same situation as yourself -- my heart rate was too low, and my blood pressure was still too high. But why are you on the nitro patch?
Avatar f tn I've been on bystolic for about a month and a half. I've had some dizziness and a little fatigue. No problems sleeping or anything like that, though. I was previously on metoprolol and had awful nightmares, way worse dizziness and light headedness, heavy leg sensations, etc. Bystolic has been way better for me. Best of luck to you!
Avatar n tn Recently, I was diagnosed with atrial fibrillation. I thought my problem was from stress, but the Dr. said it wasn't. She prescribed Bystolic 5 mg. (to slow heart down) and coumadin 5 mg. I take these 2 pills at night, because that was when I usually got these episodes of a "racing heart", which would last 3 hrs. or more. She said my condition was more like "an aging heart".....which, I am 77 yrs. old and never had a problem before.
Avatar f tn My doc LOVES Bystolic. Both are Selective Betablockers and they say Bystolic has little or no side effect. I would give it a try. I have not used either but have heard very good things about it.
Avatar m tn My Cadiologist Recently prescribed Bystolic 5 Mg tablets I per day . I have since begun having dizzy spells Can they be a side effect from the Bystolic?
Avatar n tn I do not feel as bad on Bystolic as metoprolo, I seem to have more dizzyness on Bystolic. I do get some chest discomfort while on Bystolic that the metoprolo kept at bay.
Avatar m tn t seem to do it as consistently, but if my heart rate gets really slow or if I increase the dose of bystolic (try to take 10mg vs 5), they start back up again. The only thing I can figure is when your heart rate slows it makes it more likely to get ectopic beats. It's been happening to me for 8 years now and I'm still here. So try not to focus too much on the skips, the more you do, the worse they get.
Avatar f tn My doctor recently switched me to Bystolic - and I was given "samples" for a month but no instruction sheet or counter-indications as far as drug interaction. Would there be any problem with the above that I am taking and this drug? Also, I just lost (and want to continue to lose weight) 16 pounds on a diet program and don't want to regain that weight! Does Bystolic cause weight gain?
Avatar n tn Recently my doc placed me on the Beta Blocker Bystolic. Week one was 5mg. Week 2 was 10mg and week three was the final ramped up dose of 20mg. I was fine on the 5 and 10 mg tablets but felt like crap in the morning after taking the 20mg tablet. The doc allowed me to cut the 20mg tablet in half until our next apt at which time he prescribed Carvedilol 25 mg twice a day. Anyone have any insight as to why he might have done that?
Avatar m tn I take atenolol 25 mg for fast heart rate and while in ER, they gave me 50 mg Lopressor (which I believe is metoprolol), one time dose of Lopressor. About a day or two later, I woke up in middle of night with elevated blood pressure and somewhat tachycardia. The blood pressure was higher than what I was used to and I attributed it to not receiving any more Lopressor. It took me about 5 days to not feel affect of Lopressor, and I only took one dose. BP hit 158/100, high for me.
Avatar n tn I am a 63 female taking 10 mg Bystolic once in the evening. I have been taking it for a year now and lately have been feeling light headed and slightly dizzy in the mornings when I wake up and then throughout the day. Is this a side effect of this drug? It was prescribed mainly for the rapid heart beats.
Avatar n tn I was on atenolol for 3 years and I really do believe it made my PVCs worse. I was switched to bystolic, I pretty much need a beta blocker because I also have episodes of A fib and SVT. But anyway, fingers crossed, the bystolic has seemed to decrease my PVCs as long as I don't take a dose more than 5 mg. It works much better for me than atenolol or lopressor.
Avatar n tn Bystolic is a blood pressure drug. I have been on Bystolic for 2 yrs and have never had a problem with sweating. It can be a heart related problem.
Avatar m tn I started taking Bystolic and the headaches are reduced to 2-3 times a month. I am fairly certain, however, that the Bystolic has caused joint and muscle pain especially in my knees. Is anyone else taking Bystolic experiencing this same side effect?
Avatar m tn The other night I was given 50 mg Lopressor, plavix, and lovenox, as I thought and the hospital thought I was having a cardiac event. I already take 25 mg atenolol. I wasn't having event, but non-specific chest pain. That was Monday night. Now I wake up with my heart racing and blood pressure rising. I also wake up exhausted. I think this is from coming off of the Lopressor. I called my MD and they said just go back to regular dose of atenolol.
Avatar n tn I have tried atenolol, but makes me sooooo tired, I am also tired on Bystolic not as much. Could the Bystolic be causing circulatory problems? No edema to feet or ankles but, some to medial knees. Thank you. This discussion is related to Side effects of Bystolic.
Avatar f tn Were you prescribed Lopressor when you left the hospital? Prescriptions like Lopressor sometimes take time to have their full beneficial affect. You can probably get a more accurate reading of your pulse rate by taking it yourself on your wrist. The "automatic" machines at the pharmacies should not be used if you are looking for an accurate measurement, and with your heart issues, you need accurate information.
