s office were done by a human. During my visit with my Doctor, he changed my BP medicine from 50MG of Atenolol to 5MG of Bystolic. Since a few days after the change, I often feel very flushed in the face, forgetful, confusion, seem to lose my train of thought more frequently, change in bowel movement.......With all that said, I guess my major question is are these some of the side effects when taking Bystolic? Should I go back to my Doctor and request he put me back on Atenolol?

Bystolic made me gain weight, interferred with my sleep, made my legs swell, and made my blood pressure go up. After gradually withdrawing from it, my blood pressure went down again.

Has anyone else had leg pain on the atenolol or bystolic? Also, can anyone else tell me of any other type of medicine that helped to lower heart rate other that a beta blocker?

t seem to do it as consistently, but if my heart rate gets really slow or if I increase the dose of bystolic (try to take 10mg vs 5), they start back up again. The only thing I can figure is when your heart rate slows it makes it more likely to get ectopic beats. It's been happening to me for 8 years now and I'm still here. So try not to focus too much on the skips, the more you do, the worse they get.

ve been taking bystolic for 2 years and have done much better on it than I did on atenolol. It has done a better job of keeping PVCs down and slowing my heartrate. My BP on occassion does get a little low but that hasn't been a big deal. I had a low grade headache and a bit of nausea when I first started taking them but it went away after a couple of weeks.

If you have benign palpitations I would stay away. I was switched to bystolic, which has worked well for me where toprol and atenolol didn't.

Ace inhibitors are the best at increasing lifespan. Atenolol does not remain at a constant level. Atenolol levels peak and drop. Do you have stents? The nitros are extremely bad for the liver causing cirrohous. Azor is a calcium channel blocker and I am not sure why you are on this medication? How high is your blood pressure? If you are going to stay on Azor it would be best to make sure that your heart muscle is healthy.

I've been on bystolic for about a month and a half. I've had some dizziness and a little fatigue. No problems sleeping or anything like that, though. I was previously on metoprolol and had awful nightmares, way worse dizziness and light headedness, heavy leg sensations, etc. Bystolic has been way better for me. Best of luck to you!

I took both bystolic and atenolol. No side effects from atenolol, other than the inability to do intense cardio exercises. Bystolic allowed me to do a more intense workout without getting winded, but it did notice a significant change in memory function. Witht he approval of my cardiologist, i switched between both drugs over the course of 3 years (while attending college for a second degree and an MBA). There definitely is some sort of inhibition of memory recall from bystolic.

I have been taking bystolic since September and so far it's worked better than the atenolol I was taking. It actually helps with PVCs and the atenolol really didn't, in fact it seemed like it had quit working. I have had fewer side effects with bystolic.

I have a diagnosis of Afib secondary to a prior case of pericarditis. Treating Afib with Bystolic. Last Tuesday developed bradycardia; heart rate in the 40 to 50's. Constant chest pain, spent night in hospital for cardiac work up which was negative. My Dr just took me off of Hyzaar and has put me on 5 mgs of Bystolic per day to control skipped beats and my HBP. Well, the skips are much better but my pressure is still up and my pulse is really low for me -- like in the mid 50's!!! I feel like garbage. I have only been on it for a week. Hi, I'm a 33 year old Caucasian female. I'm 5'4, 145 lbs. I developed high blood pressure in 2002 (when I was 22)during the last months of pregnancy, & after the birth of my daughter. My OB then said I did not have Toxemia. I had a really difficult labor having her, and my BP got really high during the delivery. After the delivery, my BP started running higher than it used to, like about 154/95.

a cardio doctor recent, put me on 10mg of bystolic and 120mg verapamil daily - for 3 days I was fine-after that became sick throwing up and couldnt sleep at night. doc then said to cutt down to 5mg bystolic and 60mg verap on this doseage after 3 weeks of going threw hell. Have taken Atenolol and Metoprolol SUCC ER. Atenolol did nothing for me, Metoprolol would help for a few days and then would have to increase dose. When I got to 125mg of Metoprolol, I had trouble breathing. Was switched to Bystolic, started at 5mg, then 10mg. At 10mg I could no longer feel the PACs or PVCs, but again was unable to breath. Turns out I am alergic to Beta-Blockers, but the Bystolic may help you with your symptoms.

The doc has said she is willing to start me on 20mg. of atenolol to help manage my symptoms and rid me of my palps. I have a structurally normal heart, and a resting heart rate of around 60-68 beats per minute. I have not started my medication yet basically because I am so nervous about it.

I am also on a low dose of Diovan 80 mg for HTN but these symptoms are new since starting Bystolic. I have tried atenolol, but makes me sooooo tired, I am also tired on Bystolic not as much. Could the Bystolic be causing circulatory problems? No edema to feet or ankles but, some to medial knees. Thank you.
