Bystolic for pvcs

Common Questions and Answers about Bystolic for pvcs

bystolic

Avatar f tn Thanks for this! I too have PVCs (and Long QT, occasional tachycardia, etc.). Metoprolol works for me, especially when I take it with a Super C vitamin that includes Vitamin D and zinc. The doc had tried me on Bystolic when I was in the hospital 2 years ago and it worked too. Glad you found something that helped you and hope that you're still doing well!
Avatar m tn I have been taking bystolic for several years and for me it seems to work much better than atenolol or lopressor, without all the side effects. I have had to up my dosage a couple of times and right at first my stomach will feel a little off and I may get a very slight headache but it goes away quickly.
Avatar n tn I have had far fewer side effects from it than from the atenolol. The atenolol did nothing for PVCs and PACs for me, in fact, it actually seemed to make them worse. I've been taking bystolic since November..so far so good.
Avatar m tn I have taken Bystolic for 6 years. It worked really well up until the last year. Have had very few side effects.
Avatar n tn ve been on metoprolol before, and had some awful side effects with that one, but the bystolic seems to tame those down quite a bit for me. I've only had two instances in which I could tell I was experiencing some slight side effects (dizziness, slight shortness of breath, pressure). I've also been told by my GP that, if I find myself with a rapid heart rate or back in A-fib, I can take another 2.5mg dose right then, since it's such a small dosage.
Avatar n tn I am a 27 year old male who is perfectly healthy, aside from the fact that I take a beta blocker, Bystolic, for high blood pressure. Two years ago, I was evaluated by a cardiologist. I had ECGs, Echocardiogram, Holter, Stress test, Stress echo and everything came back normal. I am scheduled to see a cardiologist in a week and a half. I have been monitoring my blood pressure and it tends to hover in the 130-135 / 80 range. I am quite worried about the increase in PVCs.
Avatar n tn The main reason I think beta blockers are useless for PVCs (or can make them worse) is because of how benign PVCs occur and how beta blockers work. Benign PVCs are usually the result of Enhanced Automaticity. Some backup pacer cells in your heart are too excitable and fire when they shouldn't. One of the triggers for these to fire is a slower heart rate. Beta blockers slow down your heart rate, therefore may provide more opportunity for ventricular pacers to kick in.
Avatar f tn Atenolol and Toprol did nothing but slow my heart rate down some, actually seemed to increase PVCs. Switched to bystolic, a newer medication, and it helped. Still have them but they seem better most of the time.
Avatar m tn I used to take a slow-release Propranolol 80 mg every day, which caused severe tiredness and extreme fatigue, to the point that I was not able to think straight and sometimes could not even get out of bed. Apparently, Propranolol also inhibits the ability for you to burn fat, not to mention gastrointestinal issues. Depression is also significantly higher when taking Propranolol.
Avatar m tn how long? 20 years...PVCs..PACs..and lately..some bouts of very rapid very short beats Most? Not sure..last Holter showed 17,000 in 24 hrs Many a day? It varies. Some days..zero. Others...lots Meds? Was on Atenolol for 19 years...grew accustomed to it..so put on Metoprolol...that wasnt doing the trick too well...so Dr tested my potassium level..which WAS within the normal range, but barely. Was on the low side..so wrote me prescription for potassium..2x a day..
Avatar f tn I am on a low dose beta blocker for PVCs and it has greatly reduced them from 20% of my beats to 3%....huge difference! I do get bigeminy now which I don't think I had before(not sure though) but I just found this out so I don't know if thats truely related or not. I have not had any problems so far except dizziness and tiredness. GOOD LUCK!
Avatar f tn I have NO idea why you are on Cardizem 240 or even 180, for that matter, for PVCs! If your heart is normal and that is ALL he is telling you is wrong, then you should not be on this drug. You need to ask him if your heart is structurally normal, and what your ejection fraction is. Cardizem is usually for A-Fib. I know they will try it for PVCs that are symptomatic and REALLY bothersome, but not just like that. And WHY did he increase your Cardizem? Because of PVCs? That is not right.
Avatar n tn I hope that you get some relief soon. I too was leary about trying a beta-blocker for pvcs, a cardiologist I saw 12 years ago said they probably wouldn't help, and might make them worse, yikes. Fast forward.....I started getting constant bigeminy, couplets, triplets, lots of nsvt. I was 30,000+/day. So I had to try something. three beta-blockers later (metoporol, inderal and atenolol) and I was ready to give up, nothing worked.
Avatar f tn As soon as the sotolol was out of my system despite the 50 mg of atenolol my heart was off to the races again, not a fib but tachycardia, pacs, pvcs. It was like it had just quit working for me. Has anyone had a similar experience or heard of meds just not working anymore? Mostly just curious....doc put me on bystolic and that works much better for me now.
Avatar n tn Hi, I'm new to this forum. I'm a healthy 36yo Male. I just started having PVCs again for a few months now. I had a Stress test, Echocardiogram and a halter monitor about a year ago when I first started getting them and they couldn't find anything wrong with me back then. They told me everything is fine. Now for the past few months I've been getting a few PVCs a day and my PCP ordered a 30 day event monitor and they found several PVCs and 1 SVT.
1736607 tn?1310577168 If I eat anything else I can have a spell where I burp constantly (with every breath) for 3 hours, have heart PVCs and feel very faint and dizzy. Every night my entire upper GI aches/burns/ feels tight (as if something needs to release, like a severe hunger pain before your stomach growls/ releases digestive juices). The upper left feels bloated/ tight/ and like there is a spasm. My heart PVCs at night have increased to happening every 1 to 4 heart beats for the entire night.
Avatar n tn After taking it for 3 years it apparently quit working, went into SVT every other day it seemed. I have been taking bystolic now for a while and that seems to have actually helped my PVCs (knocking on wood as I say this). So everybody is different and you can try a beta blocker if your PVCs are bothersome.
899454 tn?1295583938 I was on various beta blockers for over a year for PVCs. They didn't help me at all for them really. I still had good days and days when my heart was beating so wrongly that I would collapse. The beta blockers also brought my heart rate down to below 50bpm most of the time with sustained drops to around 35bpm which caused significant problems for me. Basically, my cardio told me that the beta blockers make the heart less 'excitable' but in my case it didn't work!
Avatar f tn I had horrible palpitations and periods of feeling like i wanted to faint. I had a CT with contrast, stress echo and holter monitor. I am on Bystolic 5mg for now. I still feel the palpitations from time to time but not nearly as bad as before. I don't know what types of arrythmias there are. As we all know doctors are pressed for time at every visit so questions are answered very briefly. I wish they could type you a report that you can read and then you can ask questions.
116881 tn?1189755823 My Dr just took me off of Hyzaar and has put me on 5 mgs of Bystolic per day to control skipped beats and my HBP. Well, the skips are much better but my pressure is still up and my pulse is really low for me -- like in the mid 50's!!! I feel like garbage. I have only been on it for a week. My Dr wants me to stick it out a little longer. So her I am needing take one today for my BP but my pulse is sooooo low. ANyone else on Bystolic? Will this get better?
771756 tn?1240448076 i am 40 yrs old and found out that I have PVCs and recently I have been placed on a Holitor Monitor and it showed 13,000 PVCS in 24hr period. I was then referred to a cardiologist when then confirmed the Arrythmia and sent me back to my family care physican. I had them so bad that I had literally passed out in the doctors office and had to be admitted. They are telling me that this could be an electrolyte imbalance however I am experiencing these daily and constant trips to the ER.
1703392 tn?1307450500 ve been on the 50mg for 3 days and I really feel tired. The good news is that my PVCs appear to have calmed down (I still feel them but much less noticeable). Will my body adapt to the metaprolol and not be so sluggish? I hate feeling this way. Thanks.
1933354 tn?1323362834 I went on Bystolic for rapid beats and I think I'm onto something here regarding my GAD. I feel better! Could this really be the cure? I take half of a 5mg and my heart doesn't race alarming me that I am anxious. Now really smooth and feel much less GAD. If anyone else has had some good results by taking this please let me know.
Avatar f tn I am a 37 year old female and I was diagnosed with abnormal tachycardia 1 year ago (after 9 years of no answers). My cardiologist started me on Bystolic and it has helped tremendously. I am writing because about a month ago I started noticing my heart skipping beats more often. My heart had done this many times in the past but not like it has been doing this month. It happens more often and the feeling is very strong. It is happening everyday many times a day.
