I have recently (about 6 weeks) been prescribed the new Betablocker Bystolic at 5mg/day instead of Coreg 6.125mg. Initially it has slightly reduced my heart palpitations which are less forceful, stopped some irregular or PACs and cut out the dreaming side effect of Coreg. However recently I have noticed that the color of my blood (taken to test blood sugar) is a distinct chocolate-brown color similar to whenever I have had to use Nitro tabs/patches for angina attacks.
More troubling is that I just began a cardiac rehab program, and did a treadmill workout at a speed/incline/duration (30 minutes) that I have been doing for years - so I know what my response should be. Normally, my heart rate would be around 130-135, and the coreg (presumably) kept it down around 115-120. I felt fine, and was encouraged - but afterwards, I felt extremely fatigued for the rest of the day, and had a great deal of soreness in my legs.
Thanks so much for all the info Chrisr I am going to the Doc on Monday and will ask him about Coreg and also Bystolic. I sure hope he comes up with something. I am trying to take it easy until Monday so I have less angina but taking it easy is hard for me. I love to be on the go all the time. This has really slowed me down.
You asked if they did an angiogram and the answer is no. They have tried getting in both legs as well as both arms and they say that there is too much scar tissue.
i have been on risperdal since spt 13 and reneron since sept 23 and ativan since aug 4 all for anxiety and deprression,In like a month and a half i have tried bystolic atenol, and verapamil and tiazac..and had sime kind of side eefect from all,Or else its all in my mind...my heart rate is down still and im so dizzy and feel like my heart is racing but its not,I know anxiety can do alot.I dont know if im puttinf stress on my heart by not taking the meds and its going up and down...
I was on coreg, ACE-I, spironolactone, asprin etc. With 12.5 mg x2 coreg and 5mgx2 ACE-I daily I was doing well with my walking and heart condition was more or less stable. Four months after MI I changed my cardiologist and he advised to increase coreg gradually to 25mgx2 daily. I have reached a level of 18.75mgx2 daily in next one month. Thereafter I lost my capacity to walk by half. While walking as soon as my pulse goes beyond 105 bpm I start feeling lightness in head, tired and low.
Mom is 87 years old and has high blood pressure (HBP) for many years, she is taking a few different medications to control her blood pressure. Her blood pressure has not really gotten better, but stable. But now, we noticed her bp is getting over 200 especially in the late afternoon or at night. Why? I am really worried. Doctor told her to take one additional Bystolic when the BP is too high. But this is not right.
My doctor recently switched me to Bystolic - and I was given "samples" for a month but no instruction sheet or counter-indications as far as drug interaction. Would there be any problem with the above that I am taking and this drug? Also, I just lost (and want to continue to lose weight) 16 pounds on a diet program and don't want to regain that weight! Does Bystolic cause weight gain?
It is a combination of Coreg and Tropol XL, I believe. This gives all the benefits of Coreg and reduces the tiredness that people complain about. Our relatives in Europe use the medication and have energy to travel to US and all around the states. I am not sure what the name will be of the medication when it becomes available in the US.
Salmon, fish oil, and dark chocolate have been shown to raise HDL levels. Your level should be in the 50's if you can get it there.
Anyway, my Cholesterol is 281 and I was on a strict diet and exercise awhile back and had lost some weight and got my Cholesterol back down to normal. Well I found out that I have 3 Herniated disc's in my neck and 3 ruptured disc's in my low spine so I stopped all exercise etc.
Well after being put on Coreg I started having left arm pain,tight chest and shortness of breath which I never had before starting the Coreg so I thought all this was caused by the Coreg.
My electrophysiolgist/cardiologist prescribed Coreg and Lisinopril for my condition. I have episodes of ventricular tachycardia, apparently brought on by a focal wall abnormality in my left ventricle. I also have atrial fibrillation. I have an ICD as well. When I mention to other doctors that I take these medications, they insist I must have high blood pressure. I don't have high blood pressure and never have.
I have CHF and EF of 25%, currently on 80 mg of Coreg and 30 mg lisinopril along with lasixs. I asked my doctor the same question. I was informed that if I stopped the Coreg my heart would eventually return to the same EF of 25%. Not a wise thing to stop the medication. You are at risk for Sudden Death Syndrome. If your heart were to get into an irregular rythm you could die. Please advise him to talk to his doctor.
This works well to control my tachy....but, has bad side effects of anxiety, restlessness and agitation. I lookd up Bystolic..and it has none of these type side effects listed. I was going to ask my doctor to change to Bystolic. Has anyone here had any success in changing over to Bystolic from Metoprolol ?
My Cadiologist Recently prescribed Bystolic 5 Mg tablets I per day . I have since begun having dizzy spells Can they be a side effect from the Bystolic?
I have been taking bystolic for several years and for me it seems to work much better than atenolol or lopressor, without all the side effects. I have had to up my dosage a couple of times and right at first my stomach will feel a little off and I may get a very slight headache but it goes away quickly.
I have been having a constant chest pounding and pain radiating all over my left and right breast area, all tests done proved negative for heart condition but the pain rather than decreasing, seem to be increasing in intensity. I am on LISINOPRIL-HCTZ 20-25MG and BYSTOLIC for HBP I am also on PRAVASTATIN for Cholesterol. I recently had to stop the Bystolic because my heart rate was low between 45-62.
My blood pressure was first medicated with losartan, after early morning headcahes were waking me. Years later that symptom returned, and bystolic was added. Things were great for years again.
My new symptoms include a widening gap between the upper number and lower number-the lower number has dropped into the 60's and my upper number has risen to 150's to 180's, yet I weigh less now than when I started bystolic.
