475740 tn?1208262865 I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2005. I really want to lose weight and I know I gotta take the Metformin but it makes me very nauseous. The diarrhea I can handle but not the nausea, so I haven't been taking it. I see an endocrinologist Wednesday. I was wondering if there's an alternative to Metformin/Glucophage without the nausea side effects. If there's not how long does it take until you get used to the side effects?
Avatar n tn As I understand it, Victoza delays gastric emptying thus causing the feeling of fullness and decreased appetite. I actually started on Victoza about 3 months ago. I had to change to Byetta in about 2 weeks (finished Victoza sample and insurance would only pay for Byetta). I developed nausea at the smaller dose of Victoza, and never used the larger dose. The nausea was unchanged with the change of meds.....and I have lost a LOT of weight (29 pounds).
Avatar f tn Actually, it is not a pill, but an injection, and yet it is prescribed for weight loss and sugar control. It is called Byetta. Staying away from sugar, carbs and fats is great, and shows a lot of self-control and self-management, which is excellent.
178107 tn?1315947630 I also take the Byetta now. My doc started me on it in March and I too immediately began to lose weight. It also began to regulate my blood sugars, if fact one day my level was so low that the doc reduced one of my meds from 2 pills twice a day to 1 pill twice a day. I must admit though that when I initially started I had to force myself to eat, whereas I was overeating before. I have not experienced the nausea which many say comes with this med.
Avatar n tn Hello =) I'm 34 years old and am about to begin my first cycle with the ovulation drug clomid. I'm a type 2 diabetic, have PCOS, and I have PSVT. I take Byetta, metformin, and metoprolol. I have been working with my Dr. for about 18 months to loose weight (I've lost over 60 lbs), get my blood sugar under control (my last 2 AICs were normal), and get medically ready to have a child. Last week he told us he feels comfortable with my heath for my husband and I to try to get pregnant.
Avatar n tn 125 mg). I also have diabetes. I have gained weight and cannot lose any. It is as if I have a tube in my belly pumping air.....it gets bigger and bigger. Ive had tests done to check my TSH..doc says its normal. I have other issues as well, loss of sex drive, hot and cold, sleepless, tingling in hands, memory issues, headaches. Why can I lose weight? This discussion is related to weight increased - TSH is high.
Avatar n tn I didn't respond to your question. I don't know anything about Byetta.
Avatar n tn I have PCOS too and I have been put on Metformin which helps with weight loss. People with PCOS have a higher insulin levels which decreases your female hormones and increases the male hormones which cause the hair growth and scattered periods. These are things that you know about but with increased insulin levels your body does not process the food correctly and tends to hold onto it which is why I gained weight! Metformin is for glucose patients and that is why it helps PCOS patients.
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with PCOS for 10 years and have had 2 docs tell me that it will be harder to get weight off. It's such a lovely disorder to have, right?! I do take 2000mg of metformin a day , which is supposed to help weight come of more easily and also help regulate periods. I had a miscarriage in Oct and have yet to have a regular cycle...guess each person is different in how the meds effect them.

Avatar f tn I am less likely to have a hypoglycemic episode and it even has the benefits of helping with my polycystic ovarian syndrome. A little weight loss is common with the drug also, which won't hurt me either. It can also help lower your LDL cholesterol and lower your triglycerides. Lets hope that the drug does all that it claims. It would be helpful to me in several ways.
Avatar f tn My situation is so weird right now. I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 14 and I am now 29 years old. I need to find a PCOS specialist. I have always missed like one or two months of my period. I started taking Glucophage and Byetta. My cycle started to come down on a monthly basis. I got off of both these medications maybe 8 months ago and now I am back to the missed months again. I am also taking Maxide for my high blood pressure and I take it every single day, faithfully.
400358 tn?1320234443 I have been reading about PCOS and the effects it has on weight loss. It seems to be a bit more difficult to lose weight with PCOS. I'm not sure I have it but based on (i know this is bad) self diagnosis I have a few of the symptoms of PCOS (irregular menses or lack of, weight gain) Any tips or what I can do to lose weight if in fact I have PCOS.
Avatar f tn Tina 217 Hi everyone I wanted to know if anyone has a fast and easy trick to lose weight. It's really hard with PCOS also I wanted to know why people with PCOS have little or no menstrual cycle while I only miss one or two cycles in a month and I'm still not getting pregnant ?
1473300 tn?1397588529 (unfortanly I had a m/c) but then i got pg again before even a next period and she is now 2. the big key for PCOS fertility problems is weight loss. If you loss weight you may get pg on your own. If you loose weight and get fertility help it will be much easier to get pg. Even 10% of your body weight can make a huge difference with fertility. I suggest weight loss as your first step even if your RE puts you on fertility treatments the weight loss will help them to work better..
Avatar m tn Is there any way medication which people with pcos can take to help them with weight loss? What i have read suggests that the only way to control it is through diet and exercise. I'm asking because my friend who has recently been told that it is likely she may have PCOS goes running for an hour a day and never eats heavily but still manages to put on weight easily. e.g last week she put on over a stone despite exercising and eating well everyday.
Avatar f tn perhaps you have an underlying medical condition that is preventing weight loss, such as hypothyroidism, insulin resistance, or PCOS that is preventing you from losing weight. If the hormones in your body are not balanced correctly, you will have a hard time losing weight. You should ask your doctor to run some simple tests to verify that you don't have a medical issue causing you to retain weight. In addition, make sure you check side effects of any medications you take...
Avatar n tn I used Byetta for a long time and I am not an expert or medical person. You are best to get the information from your doctor. Before I started using Byetta, I had to take classes from a nurse on how I had to inject Byetta into my stomach. It was prescribed by my Doctor. Byetta has side effects reported by some people but I had no problems with it other than the expense. It does give you a feeling of fullness and it has a nickname (Spit).
706214 tn?1244523049 If you are overweight even moderate weight loss and exercise will improve the symptoms of PCOS . because weigth gain makes the hormonal imbalance worse. although i hate medicines and their side effects metformin may help with weight loss aswell .
Avatar f tn Easier said than done, I know, but stress is terrible for weight loss. I too have PCOS and understand your struggle. Because of the PCOS you should adopt a diet free of white carbs and lower your intake of sugar. I understand your financial situation, too. I recently had to get an EBT card to pay for food. Since you go to college do you have access to athletic areas like the track? Our local outdoor high school track is open to the public.
Avatar f tn I have experienced extreme weight gain with PCOS. Struggling with weight loss. Any suggestions? Very depressing!
Avatar f tn My fasting glucose level has increased in the last month. I've been taking my meds as directed and my diet has remained the same. I've been injecting Byetta for nearly two years (twice a day). My husband saw that there is a class action suit against the manufacturer because of side effects, damage to the pancreas. I did some reserch on line and found there are all kinds of side effects, damage to the kidneys, liver and G.I. issues.
Avatar n tn t have at least 4 periods per year, (approx every 3 months) you will be at risk for cancer of the endometrium (uterine lining). So in summary, if you were my patient, I would encourage all of your medications AND your weight loss program. Good luck!
Avatar f tn Still I cannot lose weight. I am a pro-diabetic and it is very important that I lose weight. Please help!
Avatar n tn However it does have other benefits for women with PCOS, including improving the likelihood of spontaneous ovulation, or making women who need clomid to help them ovulate more sensitive to clomid. Are your periods regular? What are your goals - weight loss? Pregnancy? If weight loss, a nutritionist might be helpful.
Avatar m tn I would really like some help with this. Byetta has been wonderful so far, and I've lost 30 lbs, yay! But now I've developed insomnia - terrible, only 3 hours of sleep a night insomnia, which has never bothered me before. If I skip my second Byetta shot for the day, I can usually get a full night's sleep. So that's certainly a clue that I may not be able to take the full two doses of Byetta a day.
