Victoza vs byetta weight loss

Common Questions and Answers about Victoza vs byetta weight loss

byetta

Avatar n tn As I understand it, Victoza delays gastric emptying thus causing the feeling of fullness and decreased appetite. I actually started on Victoza about 3 months ago. I had to change to Byetta in about 2 weeks (finished Victoza sample and insurance would only pay for Byetta). I developed nausea at the smaller dose of Victoza, and never used the larger dose. The nausea was unchanged with the change of meds.....and I have lost a LOT of weight (29 pounds).
Avatar m tn Besides Victoza there are two other injectable medications which are not insulin.Only your doctor should recommend medications not strangers on an Internet forum. Talk with him/her to see what medication is best suited to your needs.
Avatar m tn t seem to be experiencing the usual side effects (nausea, headache) others do or that I did when I was on Byetta (I was told Victoza is very similar to Byetta) a few years ago. However ... and this happened to me on a prior med (I forget which one) about 6 months ago, but I started feeling pretty severe anxiety: my face is flushed, my heart is racing, I have a knot in my stomach, and I started getting paranoid (like thinking a friend was going to betray me) for no reason whatsoever.
Avatar f tn So, when my doctor told me about victoza and its weight loss benefits I was extremely excited about this revolutionary drug that would help lower my blood sugar level, AND LOSE WEIGHT at the same time. In the beginning, Victoza was God sent to me. My apetite decreased and I dropped 15 pounds in about 4-6 months. And I did not experience nausea at any time. Then, all of a sudden the weight loss stopped. My weight loss became stagnated and have been ever since.
Avatar n tn Please shed some light on using Victoza SOLELY for weight loss in a patient whose Type-2 Diabetes Mellitus is in Perfect control? Grade 3 obesity, biochemical hypothyroid and diabetic since 7 years. Both under good control. On regular Eltroxin 50mcg, Pioglitazone, Voglibose Nateglinide and Repaglinide in prescribed doses as per doctor's prescription. Also takes homeopathy and Ayurvedic propreitary medications for plantar fasciitis and Bile problems.
Avatar f tn Actually, it is not a pill, but an injection, and yet it is prescribed for weight loss and sugar control. It is called Byetta. Staying away from sugar, carbs and fats is great, and shows a lot of self-control and self-management, which is excellent.
178107 tn?1315947630 I also take the Byetta now. My doc started me on it in March and I too immediately began to lose weight. It also began to regulate my blood sugars, if fact one day my level was so low that the doc reduced one of my meds from 2 pills twice a day to 1 pill twice a day. I must admit though that when I initially started I had to force myself to eat, whereas I was overeating before. I have not experienced the nausea which many say comes with this med.
Avatar n tn Could Metformin cause thinning or hair loss? I started two Metformin 500 mg a day last May. Went on a locarb, no processed foods or alcohol diet. Lost 30#'s. End of August, switched to one Metformin ER 500 mg a day cause my A1C went from 7.4 down to 5.2 in 3 1/2 months. I have thought of a vitamin or iron deficiency, but I eat a lot of healthy foods and haven't lost weight beyond the 30#'S I lost last summer. I read that some people on here think Victoza caused their hair loss.
Avatar f tn Well, victoza will start off making you have nausea, vomiting sometime. You will get past this, it can take up to three months. After that I just kind of never felt right but thought I was just going to have to deal with this the rest of my life! Than about at 10 to 12 months I started to have severe stomach pain which I thought was my gall bladder. I was probably having pancreatic attacks, but never went to the hospital to have blood work; very stupid idea by the way.
2125647 tn?1338651465 Just wanted to say how hard and frustrated I was stuck at 215 down from 245 at my top weight. Went to see my Dr. who told me he went to a convention and mentioned maybe Victoza would help. I was so frightened to take daily needles and thought I just cannot do that to myself, but I decided to try it for my health because I am now pre diabetic and don't want to advance into quote status : diabetic My father just had his toes amputated and I don't want that in my future.
Avatar m tn good article Copy, sorry I missed it earlier. for a while I was off the metformin theory due to the newer drugs such as Byetta and Victoza being more "liver friendly". However, sice succoumbing to a throat tumor (victoza in particular known for thyroid issues) which will removed Monday, I'm off the liver spit drugs and back on the metformin band wagon.
Avatar n tn 125 mg). I also have diabetes. I have gained weight and cannot lose any. It is as if I have a tube in my belly pumping air.....it gets bigger and bigger. Ive had tests done to check my TSH..doc says its normal. I have other issues as well, loss of sex drive, hot and cold, sleepless, tingling in hands, memory issues, headaches. Why can I lose weight? This discussion is related to weight increased - TSH is high.
Avatar f tn Congratulations on your success. I am having fantastic results too, my weight loss has slowed to 1.6 - 2 pounds a week, and I am happy, because it s not good for the skin to loose any faster, I too am great full my Dr. recommended Victoza, and now I don't have to go the Lap Band route.
Avatar n tn I didn't respond to your question. I don't know anything about Byetta.

Avatar f tn First off, congrats on reducing your glucose levels and also the weight loss. "should I be worried that I may be having a bad reaction to the medicine?" You would have noticed a reaction before now unless you are improperly storing your Victoza; fridge is between 36°F to 46°F; pen in use and thrown away after 30 days between 59°F and 86°F, or kept in fridge at previously mentioned temps. If Victoza has been exposed to temps above 86°F it should be tossed and not used.
Avatar m tn I have been on Victoza for years and didn't think I had any side effects and my sugar levels were the best they've been in years so I have been really happy with doing the daily injections. I started out on the lowest dose,0.6. Gradually the dosage increased to 1.2. Just recently I was taken off of Glyburide and increased my Victoza dosage to the larger dose. My doctor thought this would help me to lose weight since I've been gaining, not losing.

Avatar n tn Byeta is a class of drugs called insulin mimetics. This includes Byeta/ Bydureon, Victoza, Januvia, among others. Maybe your Dr can check if any of the others are covered and may be of help for you. If you cannot get these drugs, you may want to try a low carb diet (low carb, moderate protein, and fat for balance of energy). Some people find this way of eating helps both blood sugar control and weight management.
1236243 tn?1277680851 I have been on Victoza for 3 mos now. I have lost weight and my bloold sugar level has drop 2 points. So far I have not has any side effects. It works for me.
Avatar m tn Hey, the discussion of Victoza got lost here somewhere. Why do you all advocate taking insulin with type II diabetes and an A1C of 6-7? I have artery disease, as do many diabetics whether they know it or not, and high insulin levels in the blood seems directly related to artery disease. Adding insulin when your insulin levels are NOT too low, or are already high because your body is trying to do something about all the sugar, makes no sense!
Avatar m tn after about 6 injections the patient started showing symptoms like loss of balance, slurred speech, loss of memory and disorientation. the injections were stopped and the patient started showing signs of improvement.in the mean time a neurologist was consulted who after a MRI ruled out any relation between Bonista and the symptoms. The injections were resumed . however the symptoms reappeared but with less intensity. my question is whether there is any such report .
