As I understand it, Victoza delays gastric emptying thus causing the feeling of fullness and decreased appetite. I actually started on Victoza about 3 months ago. I had to change to Byetta in about 2 weeks (finished Victoza sample and insurance would only pay for Byetta). I developed nausea at the smaller dose of Victoza, and never used the larger dose. The nausea was unchanged with the change of meds.....and I have lost a LOT of weight (29 pounds).

Ive had tests done to check my TSH..doc says its normal. I have other issues as well, loss of sex drive, hot and cold, sleepless, tingling in hands, memory issues, headaches. Why can I lose weight?

I didn't respond to your question. I don't know anything about Byetta.
I used Byetta for a long time and I am not an expert or medical person. You are best to get the information from your doctor. Before I started using Byetta, I had to take classes from a nurse on how I had to inject Byetta into my stomach. It was prescribed by my Doctor. Byetta has side effects reported by some people but I had no problems with it other than the expense. It does give you a feeling of fullness and it has a nickname (Spit).
My fasting glucose level has increased in the last month. I've been taking my meds as directed and my diet has remained the same. I've been injecting Byetta for nearly two years (twice a day). My husband saw that there is a class action suit against the manufacturer because of side effects, damage to the pancreas. I did some reserch on line and found there are all kinds of side effects, damage to the kidneys, liver and G.I. issues.
I would really like some help with this. Byetta has been wonderful so far, and I've lost 30 lbs, yay! But now I've developed insomnia - terrible, only 3 hours of sleep a night insomnia, which has never bothered me before. If I skip my second Byetta shot for the day, I can usually get a full night's sleep. So that's certainly a clue that I may not be able to take the full two doses of Byetta a day.

obviously you are having a problem tolerating byetta, and given that this is now 3 months and you have lost so much weight, I would think it may be rational to ask your doctor if you can stop this medication and try something different?
Why did your dr. not decide to start you on Metformin?
Have you been monitoring your blood sugars (while on byetta)? What is your fasting and post-eating blood sugars. What was your Hba1c when you started this med?
Besides Victoza there are two other injectable medications which are not insulin.Only your doctor should recommend medications not strangers on an Internet forum. Talk with him/her to see what medication is best suited to your needs.
I have been sick with a cold/flu for three weeks. Two days ago, I developed diarrhea. It seemed to occur immediately after eating. Today, the diarrhea was bright yellow and I passed something the size of a small grape (also yellow in color). I'm currently on synthroid (for hypothyroidism), effexor (for depression), and metformin & byetta (for insulin resistence). I've been on the Byetta for nearly a month, but have not suffered any side effects to date.
This new drug was recently introduced to mimic the role that amylin would normally play in slowing down the rate that sugars leave the stomach. Generally, people who do not produce enough insulin (or any insulin) also do not produce enough amylin.
Unfortunately, it is another injected drug, at meals similar to humalog.
My doctor said she was hesitant at it's launch to prescribe simply based on the fact that she hated to ask her patients to take yet another series of injections.
My husband is a newly diagnosed diabetic and has it under control with Byetta and diet. I have 4 other children ages 5 to 12 that are very thin. For the last 3 years, we have done the following to try and help their weight. Going to the gym before school 3-5 times a week - inlcuding a regular "boot camp class" and running at least a mile every time we go. Enrolling in sports. Snow skiing almost every Saturday and Holiday for the last 3 years.
I am less likely to have a hypoglycemic episode and it even has the benefits of helping with my polycystic ovarian syndrome. A little weight loss is common with the drug also, which won't hurt me either. It can also help lower your LDL cholesterol and lower your triglycerides.
Lets hope that the drug does all that it claims. It would be helpful to me in several ways.
She placed me on Byetta for my Diabetes because it supposedly helps with weight loss. I have to get my nerve up to inject myself. I have never done that. But she listened to me and she asked questions. There was another dr there since it is a training hospital. Between the two of them I think they covered about everything.
My question today is what is the treatment for cortisol levels. I am just now looking into what this is and what to do about it.
The usual dose of metformin, assuming your kidney and heart function are fine, is 1000 mg twice daily. It may also help with your weight loss. Continue with the dietary changes to lose some weight. You definitely need medication in the evenings if your morning blood sugars are the highest, so perhaps this second dose of metformin can first be added at night to help. Discuss with your doctor.

i have 15 byetta prefilled pens 10mg for sale as i no longer need them maybe their some one what them and they are all store in cooler/fridge.
In july of this year was told to add Novalog 5 units after every meal and on sliding scale. I quickly gained anoather 25 lbs. and I feel miserable. I was on Byetta for 1 and a half and kept weight down and was put on oral meds and my levels was still in 400s thats when I start Lantus. I can't deal with the weight diet exercise does not help. What should I do.
t seem to be experiencing the usual side effects (nausea, headache) others do or that I did when I was on Byetta (I was told Victoza is very similar to Byetta) a few years ago. However ... and this happened to me on a prior med (I forget which one) about 6 months ago, but I started feeling pretty severe anxiety: my face is flushed, my heart is racing, I have a knot in my stomach, and I started getting paranoid (like thinking a friend was going to betray me) for no reason whatsoever.
