Of course, if I had the money, I would have called the vet, who would have told me to bring my dog in and then run expensive tests and then told me what I already knew and then prescribed a vet formulation of flexeril that is identical to human.
Since lupus can affect the internal organs, I would take her to see another rheumie until you find one that will try something other than or in addition to an NSAID like meloxicam. (I also take meloxicam, but in conjunction with three other meds for RA that go after the disease process itself, not just treating the symptoms like meloxicam alone).
Blood work is only one of many diagnostic tools, not the yes-or-no definitive answer.
I'm a little confused as to why you have stiffness if you don't have arthritis -- any ideas? Perhaps they said you don't have rheumatoid arthritis. At any rate, there are so many remedies for joint inflammation -- MSM, chondroiton and glucosamine sulfate, proteolytic enzymes such as bromelain, quercitin, vitamin C, ginger, turmeric, boswellia, devil's claw, yucca -- I mean, the list is very long.
The drug in both forms is FDA-approved for dogs – the oral form is more often used to treat the symptoms of canine osteoarthritis. The injectable was approved for one-time use only in cats to manage postoperative pain. The oral form was not approved for use in cats at all. However, veterinarians are allowed to use medications in an “extra label” or “off label” manner, meaning they can legally prescribe oral meloxicam for cats."

Hi there! I was just prescribed meloxicam 15mg for arthritis along with prilosec for acid reflux. I was wondering if you could tell me if meloxicam would be better for pain relief compared to 800mg ibuprofen. Also does it take time for meloxicam to build up in my body for maximum benefit? If so, how long does it take? Thanks very much!
I went to the doctor for some issues that I had been having and decided to reach out to my doctor for help getting off these bad boys. He perscribed Meloxicam to help with some the withdrawal symptons. I have to say this stuff, which is just an anit inflammatory will helps with the symptons. It eleminates the hot, flush feeling which is most annoying. It really does help. Just wondering if it's all in my head or has anyone actually heard of this?

I've been on that medication for many years and have had no side effects. It's been very helpful for my condition (severe tibial tendonitis).
I have gained a considerable amount of weight will taking Meloxicam. Once I stop taking will the weight come off??
Dogs can go for a good amount of time without food but not water so good that she is drinking. I have never read a specific time but we have all heard stories of dogs going weeks without food. Of course, they end up in poor condition. I am sure a lot depends on the overall health of the dog to begin with.
What have you tried feeding her? You might try some boiled chicken (no skin) and rice a few smaller meals given a day.
