Avatar n tn the only difference with suboxone and subutex is that suboxone has a added ingredient that makes for a less potential of abuse, and overdose. suboxone is safer and a better choice i believe.
1800740 tn?1324237171 Suboxone is the brand name for a medication consisting of buprenorphine and naloxone. Buprenorphine is a thebaine derivative with powerful analgesia approximately 20-40x more potent than morphine. Buprenorphine is a partial agonist and antagonist of the opioid receptors in the central nervous system which means when the its molecule binds to a receptor, it will transduce only a partial response in contrast to a full agonist such as morphine.
696149 tn?1314320959 Few differences in the adverse event profile were noted among SUBOXONE sublingual film, SUBOXONE (buprenorphine and naloxone) sublingual tablets, SUBUTEX (buprenorphine) sublingual tablets and a buprenorphine ethanolic sublingual solution. The most common adverse event ( > 1%) associated with the sublingual administration of the SUBOXONE sublingual film was oral hypoesthesia.

In the US Subutex has been approved by the FDA for the treatment and control of chronic moderate to severe pain. If you are using it for treatment of addiction, it was not supposed to be a maintenance medication. The goal of it was to taper that addict relatively quickly, over several months, off of the medication completely.

Having said that it is still a viable option and does work for some people as a tapering tool off of opiates.
Avatar f tn Actually, the naloxone in suboxone is innert when taken properly. It does absolutely nothing. When taken properly, the buprenorphine has a higher affinity than the naloxone, and occupies all the opiate receptors. The Naloxone is metabolized and secreted out of the body-wasted.

So, in answer to your question, some formulations of Subutex are specifically made to prevent IV use. Since you don't know which ones you are buying, it will be hard to tell whether it is the ones you can use safely or not, so I would stay away. Have you ever tried getting clean? It is not impossible. A human body was not created to be doped up.
Avatar n tn Let's say you did do it. There will be two possible effects: 1. There will be no benefit to injecting it as the naloxone will block out the buprenorphine just as fast and the buprenorphine could start working. Which there isn't much if any euphoria from buprenorphine anway - so I don't see the point in the first place. 2. If you already have a high level of buprenorphine or any other opiate already in action - you will go into precipitated withdrawal from the naloxone.
Avatar f tn 30 a.m. Somewhere between 10:30 a.m. and midnight he received 2 more injection of this drug - dosage and time unknown. Also between 10:30 a.m. and midnight he received 10cc of Propofol and Isoflurane. Would these combinations or frequency of the Bupre possibly cause an overdose?
Avatar m tn You are not goin to get high they have a ceiling effect, so if you take one you may feel a little pep for a min or two and if you take 20 more you will never get any more buzzed then the first one, and if you overdose it is not goin to be pretty and you very well could overdose and i really don't think you want that.kitty.
1087566 tn?1282448730 t you know that methadone blocks all of the pain receptors in your brain, not allowing any other opioid to reach the receptor? All you are doing is taking a big risk for an overdose. Talk to your Dr. Choose one or the other.
Avatar f tn Buprenorphine (Suboxone) was developed as an alternative to methadone that would be equally effective in treating opiate addiction but less likely to be abused. But Baltimore officials say that an underground market for the drug has developed, leading to "bupe" abuse and some deaths, the Baltimore Sun reported Dec. 16. Unlike methadone, buprenorphine can be prescribed by individual doctors or group practices, not just distributed at treatment clinics.
1331083 tn?1285912354 s true that you will become dependent on the buprenorphine, but chances of overdose is much much lower than that of an agonist opiate. So, if you refuse aftercare and counseling, then Suboxone will allow you to place your addiction into remission until you feel comfortable coming off. If you start aftercare now, you can taper off more quickly.
Avatar m tn I take Buprenorphine,4 months, but I want to change drug with Nalorex. How can I do that?I need to period to clean and elminate Buprenorphine, and when can I start take Nalorex?
Avatar f tn One mg of Suboxone is a TREMENDOUS overdose for a dog. It could easily overdose an opiate-naive human. Your dog will die of pulmonary failure if you don't get her to a vet immediately.
Avatar m tn You must talk to your doctor about this. It is very easy to overdose with the subutex. Also I have never heard of anyone getting Fetynal or Oxy for oral surgery. Wow ! Please talk to both your Sub doctor and the oral surgeon.
Avatar f tn I am in medical hospital and they want me to detox off methadone with help of buprenorphine does anyone know about this drug or used it . I am scared and need feedback ASAP.
Avatar m tn Can anyone help me with some knowledge of this medication????? I have a relative who's suffered badly for years and tried every clinic and therapy and medication and nothing helped till now. He's lately been prescribed this buprenorphine and he swears it's just about given him his life back. My question is it a narcotic, therefore addictive. Does it have the nasty side effects of oxy or other pain meds.
1141981 tn?1261076243 I could not find anything about class actions suits against it but here In October 2002, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved buprenorphine monotherapy product, Subutex®, and a buprenorphine/naloxone combination product, Suboxone®, for use in opioid addiction treatment. The combination product is designed to decrease the potential for abuse by injection.
Avatar m tn by that definition, but fentanyl and buprenorphine are not. It does have activity at the mu opiate receptor, but the activity is very different from that of agonists like methadone, oxycodone, or fentanyl. Buprenorphine is a partial agonist, which causes tolerance that is static, rather than the ever-increasing tolerance caused by agonists. It also has a 'ceiling' to it's agonist effect.
230262 tn?1316645934 s suggest going that route WAY before attempting methadone for the simple reason that buprenorphine overdose deaths are extremely rare (most were using benzos as well), and methadone deaths are common at best.
Avatar n tn Also although someone can overdose by taking too much like anything else, taking more than prescribed does not lead to that "high" feeling because the extra medication does not attach to the reseptors responsible for causing that feeling(mu reseptors, I think) But with that said it can still cause withdrawls and be addicting. But so is methadone so it's really up to the DR and patient to decide if using it is right for them.
199177 tn?1490498534 Subutex® is a single entity buprenorphine product and Suboxone® is a combination product with buprenorphine and naloxone in a 4:1 ratio, respectively. After reviewing all the available data and receiving a schedule III recommendation from the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), the DEA placed buprenorphine and all products containing buprenorphine into schedule III in 2002. Since 2003, diversion, trafficking and abuse of buprenorphine have become more common in the United States.
