Avatar m tn Mr. Fly1234: First, I'd like to congratulate you on tapering down your Suboxone (buprenorphine/naloxone) maintenance dose. From other patients' experiences, decreasing the dose and discontinuing buprenorphine are not easy tasks for many. Under federal law, DATA 2000 or Drug Addiction Treatment Act of 2000, only qualified physicians can prescribe and treat opioid addiction with controlled narcotics medications, such as buprenorphine products (Suboxone, Subutex or generic alternatives).
Avatar f tn I have experience with both methadone and buprenorphine (sub) - IMHO the sub is a much better choice. Just PM me if you want more from my experiences......
Avatar f tn I am in medical hospital and they want me to detox off methadone with help of buprenorphine does anyone know about this drug or used it . I am scared and need feedback ASAP.
Avatar m tn Can anyone help me with some knowledge of this medication????? I have a relative who's suffered badly for years and tried every clinic and therapy and medication and nothing helped till now. He's lately been prescribed this buprenorphine and he swears it's just about given him his life back. My question is it a narcotic, therefore addictive. Does it have the nasty side effects of oxy or other pain meds.
747988 tn?1396536878 Temgesic contains buprenorphine as active ingredient. It's a selective opioid agonist. Naltrexone is the opposite, it blocks my1 opioid receptors and TLR4 (which helps to normalize immune function). Why do you think it's addictive? It reduces symptoms that show up after IFN therapy... It's as addictive as aspirin if you ask me...
Avatar f tn HI CUTIEPIE, IF YOU LOOK IN THE HEALTH PAGES TO THE RIGHT YOU WILL FIND a whole thread of members experiences....sorry for the caps i am at work and we do everything in caps here..
Avatar n tn Subutex is buprenorphine only... It does not contain naloxone Suboxone- is buprenorphine plus naloxone.. Naloxone is actually NOT the blocker.. it is in there to prevent the use of it IV and was to help discourage diversion of the streets.. hence why more people are prescibed Suboxone. Buprenorphine is what does the blocking. the drug itself at certain levels will prevent other opiates from attaching to the receptors. So both drugs block opiates.
199177 tn?1490498534 Subutex® is a single entity buprenorphine product and Suboxone® is a combination product with buprenorphine and naloxone in a 4:1 ratio, respectively. After reviewing all the available data and receiving a schedule III recommendation from the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), the DEA placed buprenorphine and all products containing buprenorphine into schedule III in 2002. Since 2003, diversion, trafficking and abuse of buprenorphine have become more common in the United States.
Avatar n tn Suboxone contains a combination of buprenorphine and naloxone. Buprenorphine is an opioid medication. Buprenorphine is similar to other opioids such as morphine, codeine, and heroin however, it produces less euphoric ("high") effects and therefore may be easier to stop taking. Naloxone blocks the effects of opioids such as morphine, codeine, and heroin.
Avatar f tn The flip side of all of this is that tolerance reaches a maximum at about 4 mg of buprenorphine, and further increase in dose of buprenorphine does not cause substantial increase in tolerance. Tolerance and withdrawal are two sides of the same coin; the lack of withdrawal going from 32 to 8 mg of buprenorphine is consistent with no significant change in tolerance across that range. So in my opinion, being on 32 vs 4 mg of Suboxone doesn't raise your tolerance.
Avatar f tn I have been researching this fairly extensively. Much like Suboxone, there is a lot of 'miracle drug' stories and 'horror' stories. The science behind it fascinats me. Buprenorphine is the only breakthrough in addiction pharmaceuticals methadone. Researchers where funded to research psilocybin and cluster headaches and ibogaine for heroine dependence/addiction. Endeogens stimulate, rather than block, the transmitter sights in the old brain.
Avatar f tn Thanks Jaybay! I did know about the actions and uses of buprenorphine and .... and the fact that Suboxone has the additional naloxone component to prevent injection abuse. I didn't know that Fentanyl could "knock bupe right off its pins." You're right, there must be more but I can't even find at you are saying about Fentanyl on line.
Avatar f tn Suboxone is the brand name for a medication consisting of buprenorphine and naloxone. Buprenorphine is a thebaine derivative with powerful analgesia approximately 20-40x more potent than morphine. Buprenorphine is a partial agonist and antagonist of the opioid receptors in the central nervous system which means that when its molecule binds to a receptor, it will transduce only a partial response in contrast to a full agonist such as morphine.
Avatar f tn I have been on subutex for the last 2.5 years. My doctor put me on it for pain management because I am also an addict in recovery and he said that other opiates would lead to a relapse. I have been detoxing for months now and after getting to .5mg/day and staying there for three weeks I have cut down even more to 0mg for the last two days and nights are awful becuase I sweat and wake up freezing and soaked. It aslo feels like detoxing off of valium all over again.
1141981 tn?1261076243 I could not find anything about class actions suits against it but here In October 2002, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved buprenorphine monotherapy product, Subutex®, and a buprenorphine/naloxone combination product, Suboxone®, for use in opioid addiction treatment. The combination product is designed to decrease the potential for abuse by injection.
Avatar f tn NOTICE: The following information is from my own, self-educated head, from my my own reading and/or experiences, I am NOT a medical "professional" as it were, if anything I'd call myself a "Street-smart Herb-Woman with a leaning towards being a bibliophile." I see myself as a Healer and someone who's "been there, done that" or "I've seen this movie before...
Avatar m tn Subutex, which is composed of only buprenorphine, and Suboxone, which is a combination of Buprenorphine and Naloxone. It's my understanding that a physician requires even more education when ordering either of these drugs than the usual opiate education. The medical documentation required is even more stringent. Indeed it's now even more difficult to find a physician that will order Buprenorphine. The DEA is breathing down their necks.
Avatar n tn i am waiting to go on a buprenorphine maintenance prescription which will be next month.i have some buprenorphine tablets but when i take them i go straight into cold turkey.i have taken the buprenorphine tablets for a few years before but my prescription got stopped so i opted for the above tablets for the time being whilst im on the waiting list to go back on the buprenorphine.
Avatar m tn I am currently using 8mg of buprenorphine,1800mg of gabapentin and 150mg of wellbutrin daily as medicine for pain management and nerve pain. Now I'cant obtain gabapentin anymore and would like to transfer to oxycodone 120mg daily as a substitute for buprenorphine and gabapentin.I would like to know is such change possible.
Avatar m tn why cant i stay off the methadone for 3 days and than get a script for buprenorphine generic .and start my treatment detox at home. i do have a gp doctor.and i think he can do the buprenorphine program.
230262 tn?1316645934 I don't know where you get the information that Buprenorphine doesn't work for pain, but I'm afraid that isn't true. In fact, the first mainstream use for Buprenorphine was in labor delivery. It's an extremely potent analgesic and is much stronger milligram for milligram than morphine. Also, ANY doctor can prescribe Suboxone OR Subutex for pain, not just those that have special opiate dependence DEA numbers. For many people, Buprenorphine provide substantial pain relief.
Avatar m tn When I saw my pain management consultant a few months ago he put me on Buprenorphine Transdermal Patches, 10mg. ! patch to be put on for 7 days. This is in addition to the Oxycontin. The patch has recently been increased to 20mg. I have recently started reducing the Oxycontin in the view of coming off it totally. I have so far reduced it by 10mg. My Dr hase prescibed me Oxynorm 5mg, once a day, incase I experience withdrawal symptoms.
Avatar f tn It is hard to know for sure, though, whether I am correct, or whether buprenorphine (the active part of Suboxone) lessens the total misery to some extent. We don't know how bad off you would be if you had not take Suboxone. The general belief of the treatment industry seems to be that buprenorphine does lessen the severity of withdrawal, but I am not convinced that it does that. I am an advocate of using buprenorphine for longer periods of time than for simple detox.
