Common Questions and Answers about Broken leg no cast

Avatar m tn I was in a half cast, basically on the back of my leg and below the foot for a touch over a week, so I was unable to move my ankle and leg and was on crutches. Then 2 days ago I went to the outpatients department and the doc took the cast off me and told me to start walking on it with the aid of crutches as it isn't the weight bearing bone. He said that the bone will heal by itself without the cast and even with me putting a bit of pressure on it.

Avatar f tn They told me 6 weeks to heal before i get cast off, but i was in a splint style cast for the first week, does that count as one week? and also should nt have the doctor have asked me to come in for check up x-rays just to make sure the bone is healing properly? i live in a small community was treated by a regular doctor a i think.Do u think ill need an aircast after i get regular cast off or is that just optional?
Avatar f tn In 2007 I badly broke my leg (my toes were touching my knee bad), I was in a cast for almost my entire seventh grade year and for the first four or so months I had to be in a wheelchair with the cast up to my thigh. I started to be able to move around really well after the first month and about two or so months before they put me in a boot i was able to jump around my house on one leg for very long distances and then eventually walk around on my cast.
Avatar m tn We were told it was a significant injury but it healed completely within 10 days..no cast , no bandages. everyone couldnt believe it had healed. we were told if she could walk, she would be able to walk on it.!!. They admitted they had put the cast in the wrong place when they did it..and then put her in traction. she is absolutely fine now..but i do think all the messing about and the wrong cast couldve made it worse than it originally was.
Avatar f tn the top of my foot and 3 smallest toes have no feeling. They said that was from the compression of the nerve that runs along the top of my foot and it should go away soon since having my cast replaced. I have still not been able to have my foot lowered for much time with experiencing pain and swelling - is this normal? The evening time is the worst, with my leg being swollen and uncomfortable. Sleep is very difficult but when I wake in the morning my foot feels fine and comfortable.
Avatar m tn t need surgery and my bone was repositioned and i was put in a cast. I had my sixteenth birthday with a cast on my right leg and i have had to cancel my driving test as i can't drive with a cast on. I will be with a full walking cast for another 2 weeks (its been 5) and then i will have a short walking cast for another 3 weeks. How long after that can i drive again and also how long until i play soccer. I will be going to physical therapy.
Avatar m tn She jumped off of a chair and broke her front leg. The vet said the cast would be enough and the surgery is not required. However the x-ray shows that the bones are not aligned perfectly. I understand that he is a professional but I have already had experience with some incompetent vets and cannot rule out this one to be another example. I will probably get an advise from another vet but also want to hear your opinions. Has anyone had the same kind of problem? Here are the x-ray shots.
Avatar n tn I fractured my fibula about 1 inch above the base. Clean break all the way through, no displaced. I had surgery to lock the bones in place to accelerate healing. The doctor noticed my ankle was loose and said my deltoid ligament was stretched, but not completely torn. I am going for a post-op appointment on 6/30. I broke my ankle 6/10, and had surgery 6/17. Basically, they are saying that I'll need to go in a cast for 6 more weeks.
Avatar f tn hi, my daughter broke her ankle on Sunday and because of lack of money hasn't been able to find someone who is willing to put a cast on it. She went to a emergent care center and they put it in a splint. They do not put casts on at this place but they recommended a place for her. Since she has no money for the cast, no one's been willing to help.including the place they referred her to. They are wanting about 900 to 1200 dollars to put a cast on.
Avatar m tn i dont hav ea cast becuase doctor said i dont really need one so i have a no cast plain leg im doing excersize and i see doctor in 22 october Lol That means my bone healed quicker then yours lol thank telll me about ur self n ur bone have you steped on it and is it pain full for you
Avatar m tn As it turns out, it is attached only to the Tib. The Fibula is still broken and has no stability (no hard cast can be applied due to the open wound up the inner side of her leg). Is it normal for the fib not to be stabilized using a fixation or any other means? Also, the Tibia was a crushing fracture; there is a space of just over 2 inches where the bone was crushed.
Avatar n tn 5 weeks ago, I fell and fractured my L tib/fib as well as my ankle. My doc told me it would be 20 weeks for me in the cast. He took my cast off after 11 weeks and did not give me orders for PT. I have excruciating knee pain, am unable to bend my knee, and am truly afraid to weight bear. I didn't require any surgery. Does any of this sound normal? I am an icu nurse and it just feels too soon to have the cast off, no walking cast or anything. Thanks for your time.

1196614 tn?1265075773 s my story , i had a broken tibia and fibula as well i was trying tio help a female from getting beaten by his boyfriend , it was slippery oitside my right leg went forward and my left leg went backwards and my big ***( lol ) landed on top of my ankle and distored my ankle and broke my tibia and fibula , i went to the hospital where i stayed two nights then on monday i had to go see the bone doctor at the other hosiptal and told me that your fracture was a bad one .
Avatar m tn Its possible you were put in a "back slab" cast which is soft on one side. This was done to my broken wrist to allow for swelling immediatey after the accident. I then was called back to have a full fibreglass cast on after ten days or so. The reason for going back for the full cast is that as the swelling reduces the cast then may become too lose to support the bones and thus could allow for poor healing.
Avatar f tn 10 year old boy with recent broken knee growth plate, cast was put on two days ago. Now he is shivering, hot/cold, running a fever and the leg is hot to the touch and he complains the back of the knee is increasing in pain even with ibprofen. ER tonigt or wit for morning and call orthopedist?
Avatar f tn And the hellish anxiety I completely understand. It felt like I wanted to jump out of my skin and take off running and screaming. Fortunately it started to get better, and after the ativan was gone I just dropped it and didn't think about asking for more. Now, I'm not in a long leg cast and can't imagine what it must be like. I do have a broken left knee cap and cracked tibia from a work injury last June. Fell off a ladder.
Avatar m tn Alberts leg was operated on, pinned and had a large cage put over his leg, as aposed to a cast to allow the doctors to continue the work on his wound. 2 weeks after this surgery, Albert was asked to put his weight on the leg to see how it feels. He was assisted by nurses to his feet, and then allowed to stand on his own. This broke the leg for a second time, as the bones were not yet strong enough to hold his weight. So, back into surgery to have it re-set.
Avatar m tn I was told these breaks are pretty serious and if not taken care of you can end up with pain for the rest of your life and have a walking cane.. I dont think you want a brace on your leg so tight it hurts.. You need a soft cast with some room for the swelling. keep it elevated!!!!
Avatar n tn i break my tibia fibula in may 21 i had no surgery and i have in cast know 5 weeks dr say me i have to take 3 moths ,after i take off cast since i play football how much time i have ti take to get back to play again
Avatar n tn s been in a half cast for 2 months. That arm has excessive hair growing on the broken area...is this because of the tensor/fiberglass cast covering or a result of the surgery and the plate being in my arm? Is there anything I can do to reduce the hair growth?
Avatar f tn The Spanish doctors initially saw no break, but a second doctor noticed a break in the talus bone and put my leg in a half cast for support whilst travelling back by plane to England. Once home I went to hospital thinking they would put the leg in a full cast but the doctor said I had just severe swelling and couldn't see a break!! I have a tubular bandage now and obviously am still in a great deal of pain. Do I need a second opinion. Regards.
Avatar n tn There's no way to tell for certain if it's broken or just sprained without xrays. Don't think that just because you were able to limp around on it today that it can't possibly be broken. A couple of years ago I took a fall after stepping in a hole in the yard - I thought I had just badly bruised my ankle/leg because I was able to walk on it, although it was miserably painful to do so and was badly swollen and bruised.
Avatar f tn I was told I had a metatarsal break in the ER this last week. Fitted with a temp cast and scheduled with an orthopedist. I am by no means a radiologist, but I just can't see the break anywhere on the x ray and was wondering if someone could point it out?
499151 tn?1235359642 I got cast off on April 24th (a full 6 weeks in cast). A new x-ray was taken @ this time, and there is no sign of this healing! I am not sched. to see O.S. until my Carpal Tunnel Surg. on May 21st. He said we'd have another look @ ankle then. I'd like to know what is the best thing I could have done to this ankle? Will it ever just heal on it's own? What if it does not? with the previous injuries, I already have alot of pain, how will this affect this?
