Avatar n tn ll need to go in a cast for 6 more weeks. That means before I can walk it will be 9 weeks from the injury date. All for a broken fibula and sprained deltoid ligament. I think the doctor is being extremely conservative, I need to be weight bearing to get back to work. Does this seem like a rather stiff sentence? Shouldn't it be 6 weeks from the injury date assuming normal healing occurs on the bone?
Avatar f tn I try very hard to limit my movement during the day and keep my foot up but still by about 7pm my discomfort is intense with a very tight cast, pain in the leg and numb toes. Is what I am experiencing normal or should I be concerned?
Avatar f tn 10 year old boy with recent broken knee growth plate, cast was put on two days ago. Now he is shivering, hot/cold, running a fever and the leg is hot to the touch and he complains the back of the knee is increasing in pain even with ibprofen. Avatar m tn they constantly rotated her legs and stretched them out again to check her hips before fracture was dianosed. then they put a cast on on the bottom of her leg instead of the top. would all of these mistakes have made the fracture worse than it originally was.
Avatar m tn I was in a half cast, basically on the back of my leg and below the foot for a touch over a week, so I was unable to move my ankle and leg and was on crutches. Then 2 days ago I went to the outpatients department and the doc took the cast off me and told me to start walking on it with the aid of crutches as it isn't the weight bearing bone. He said that the bone will heal by itself without the cast and even with me putting a bit of pressure on it.
Avatar f tn ( that really *****
Avatar f tn They told me 6 weeks to heal before i get cast off, but i was in a splint style cast for the first week, does that count as one week? and also should nt have the doctor have asked me to come in for check up x-rays just to make sure the bone is healing properly? i live in a small community was treated by a regular doctor a i think.Do u think ill need an aircast after i get regular cast off or is that just optional?
Avatar n tn I think it is too early to remove the cast in your case. May be you can ask your doctor about plastic cast walker, which is much lighter and allows you to walk to some extent. Once full fracture healing is confirmed by the doctor, rehabilitation can continue with a physiotherapist. Hydrotherapy exercises are very helpful in regaining ankle range of movement. Best.
Avatar m tn I was told these breaks are pretty serious and if not taken care of you can end up with pain for the rest of your life and have a walking cane.. I dont think you want a brace on your leg so tight it hurts.. You need a soft cast with some room for the swelling. keep it elevated!!!!
Avatar n tn And I am taking Darvacet for pain, which helps a little. Also, the cast seems to make the injury on my leg feel a little better, but my ankle is still in quite a bit of pain especially when i try to put any weight on it, which is minimal. I am not trying to push things. I will keep you updated.
Avatar f tn The Spanish doctors initially saw no break, but a second doctor noticed a break in the talus bone and put my leg in a half cast for support whilst travelling back by plane to England. Once home I went to hospital thinking they would put the leg in a full cast but the doctor said I had just severe swelling and couldn't see a break!! I have a tubular bandage now and obviously am still in a great deal of pain. Do I need a second opinion. Regards.
Avatar m tn t need surgery and my bone was repositioned and i was put in a cast. I had my sixteenth birthday with a cast on my right leg and i have had to cancel my driving test as i can't drive with a cast on. I will be with a full walking cast for another 2 weeks (its been 5) and then i will have a short walking cast for another 3 weeks. How long after that can i drive again and also how long until i play soccer. I will be going to physical therapy.
Avatar m tn The Fibula is still broken and has no stability (no hard cast can be applied due to the open wound up the inner side of her leg). Is it normal for the fib not to be stabilized using a fixation or any other means? Also, the Tibia was a crushing fracture; there is a space of just over 2 inches where the bone was crushed. The Ortho Surgeon left the largest pieces of crushed bone in place and said that it would help the bone heal (a ¼ inch gap exist between the top and bottom portions of this bone.
Avatar m tn ll be on crutches for 3-4 months and luckily I have a boot and not a cast. Is all this normal?
Avatar n tn i break my tibia fibula in may 21 i had no surgery and i have in cast know 5 weeks dr say me i have to take 3 moths ,after i take off cast since i play football how much time i have ti take to get back to play again
Avatar f tn And the hellish anxiety I completely understand. It felt like I wanted to jump out of my skin and take off running and screaming. Fortunately it started to get better, and after the ativan was gone I just dropped it and didn't think about asking for more. Now, I'm not in a long leg cast and can't imagine what it must be like. I do have a broken left knee cap and cracked tibia from a work injury last June. Fell off a ladder.
Avatar f tn my 13 year old son broke his lower tibia 6/7 weeks ago he was in full cast from toe to hip the hole time ,now the injury has mended he has developed swelling to his knee on the same leg does anyone know if this is normal please or any ideas on how to reduce it as he still cant walk ? kelly.
Avatar f tn They put him in a long leg cast that is bent in a sitting position. Is that bent too much he has been complaining of more pain since they put the cast on vs. the splint. he says that he feels like his foot is asleep most of the time. do i need to call the dr. to see if the cast is cutting off circulation? or is in a bad position. We go back friday to make sure the bones are still in the right place.
Avatar m tn I was told 6 months for complete recovery and yet found myself getting a bone graft on my fibula 5 months after injury. I am 17 months post injury now and still having problems and am waiting to have hardware removed. I would strongly suggest physio the minute your mom is able.Also,D3,and vit.C and perhaps B12 if there is any hint of nerve damage.
Avatar f tn suffered broken ankle in May 2010. Had surgery with plate and screws to fix. 2 weeks no weight bareing, 8 + weeks in camwalker boot - weight bearing as tolerated. Then moved to right ankle element brace and cane. Have completed 2 sessions of PT. Have chronic pain i ... [More] n foot/ankle with every step I take. Both my foot/leg are still swollen and discolored. Taking pain meds daily. Recently returned to work (4 hours per day sitting).
Avatar m tn She jumped off of a chair and broke her front leg. The vet said the cast would be enough and the surgery is not required. However the x-ray shows that the bones are not aligned perfectly. I understand that he is a professional but I have already had experience with some incompetent vets and cannot rule out this one to be another example. I will probably get an advise from another vet but also want to hear your opinions. Has anyone had the same kind of problem? Here are the x-ray shots.

499151 tn?1235359642 A double spiral fracture of the left fibula. 1st is approx. 1/8 of an inch above the distal fib. and the 2nd is just above this. I was seen in my local by a O.S. and because it had not moved, they just put my ankle in a new fullcast, with ankle in the proper position. I got cast off on April 24th (a full 6 weeks in cast). A new x-ray was taken @ this time, and there is no sign of this healing! I am not sched. to see O.S. until my Carpal Tunnel Surg. on May 21st.
Avatar m tn Its day 3 since I’ve been walking on my left leg and now it’s starting to swell on the opposite side of the injury, but my injury doesn’t hurt. But as I walk my calve muscles hurt. I assume it’s hurting, because I’m restoring my calve muscles. What should I do? Should I continue to walk on my leg or should I put the splint back on? I don’t have any money to visit an Orthopedic office nor do I have the money for a MRI.
Avatar n tn I was immobilized for 8 weeks in a short leg cast non weight bearing. I then had 3 1/2 weeks of PT after the cast was removed. For the most part the ankle feels pretty good. At times if I wear tight shoes or sneakers and it presses on the inside of the leg the ankle is tender and also If I'm out in the cold for extended periods of time my ankle stiffenes up alot so much so It's difficult to walk on untill it warms up.
Avatar f tn ve been non-weight bearing for 3 weeks. I am currently in a short-leg non-weight bearing cast until 12/10. That day, they will be removing the cast for more x-rays. I had no idea what decision I should have made and had read plenty of horror stories about problems related to surgery before I saw the specialist. Is the fact that I have no pain a good sign? Is my injury minor or should I have gone with the surgery?
